I went to CS as they were a preferred company through AAA. I went to several different shops to get estimates on replacement of my clutch since I was not able to switch gears at all while the car was running. I was provided with a reasonable quote that itemized labor ($720) and parts (~$450), something many other shops were unable to provide me with. Considering I had done my research and know what the costs of the parts were/should be allowed me to find the best mix of labor costs and experience with a shop. The origional quote I was provided with included the a higher end clutch kit which I did not want (about $450). They offered to replace it for me if I brought them a clutch kit, since I felt that cost for a clutch kit was way too high, the only issue that it would not be covered under their 12mo, 12k miles warranty.
After many calls back and forth, we (myself and their contact) realized that the part they were quoting me was a racing clutch instead of an OEM replacement. After getting several part #s from them, we got this straightened out and was able to get the strict OEM replacement for $245. I decided to go this route, although I was able to find the kit online for cheaper, because everything would be covered if something went wrong (ie defective part, etc it does happen). Their labor rate was very competitive as compared to other shops which is why I continued to pursue them to perform this work for me. Many other shops were quoting me about $1000 for labor alone, or not providing itemized estimates. I decided to go with CS.
I was able to do a night drop on Sunday evening so they could start work on Monday morning. This was very convenient and easily done. The total job took them about 4 days (I got my car back on a Thursday), a little longer than I expected. Throughout the job, I called to check up on the progress and was provided updated by the shop as well. They communicated everything that was being done and did not do anything without my permission. Even after their initial evaluation, they called to get permission to take the clutch apart and check the grining noise coming from it. I was told what was wrong.
I did not encounter any unexpected costs and the labor costs did not go up even though they had my car for 4 days and was provided with a AAA discount. All in all, I was pleased with the transaction. About 100 miles later no issues and shifting like a charm. I would recommend the shop, however I would also recommend doing your own research about the costs of parts, how long the job should take, etc to be informed.
