Manicures/Nails
I purchased a Groupon for $19 which was for a "45-60 minute mani-pedi with a paraffin hand treatment"
I had an appointment, but they were able to accommodate about 20 minutes
later. Initially the greeter and manicurist both spoke to me very
professionally. I will refer to the manicurist as "M." I was taken to
the back for a pedicure in a massage chair. Comfortable, but had a worn
out control pad. The foot bath with jets was nice. M then proceeded to
some light filing on my toenails and was going to proceed to the
massage. I had to ask her to cut my nails which she did with cuticle
trimmers. I asked if she had toenail clippers and she insisted she
preferred the cuticle trimmer which she had trouble using because if
required quite a bit of strength. She did not even use them on the toe
cuticles. The application of the nail polish was fair.
Then we moved to do the hands. She shaped them well, but did a poor job on the
cuticles and did not seem to have a fine file for a smooth finish that
would prevent splitting of the nails over time. When I pointed out that
there was still remnant of the cuticle on the nail, she told me that I
needed to work on that after I showered each day. Okay?
We moved
on to the paraffin wax treatment. This involves dipping your hands
three times in rapid succession, putting a plastic bag over your hands.
She takes this time to leave you at her station facing the wall for five
minutes while she cleans the pedicure station. She removes the wax, and
fives a brief hand and forearm massage with the application of lotion.
Now for the horrendous part . . . the application of nail polish to the
hands. The base coat was applied quickly without complete coverage of
the nail. When I asked her to cover the whole nail so that the red nail
polish does not stain my nails, she said she did do the whole nail
(second time she contradicts the customer). The nail polish was dried
out and near the bottom requiring her to add a diluting solution, and
tilt the bottle nearly upside down, and it still came out thick and
sparse. I asked if she had another bottle, she said, "No, we do not keep
many extra bottles in the store. We order them as we use them." Mind
you this is a popular color, RED! She applied a top coat, and
unceremoniously took me to the drying station, and left without even a
good-bye, she left and called the next customer. Trying to dry the
thick coat as much as possible, I was at the drying station for about 20
minutes. I had to leave, and the nails were still wet with the left
thumb having a large dripping on the thumb where the nail polish was
trying to run off the nail. Another customer at the drying station
suggested I ask the manicurist to fix it, but I did not have time after
spending so much time waiting for her to start, then drying the thick
nail polish application. There went 40 minutes which was longer than the
manicure, pedicure and wax treatment all together.
When I went to walk out, she was at the front desk on the phone, she did not even turn to me to nod as a parting gesture.

Response from HOLLYWOOD NAILS
"It is with regret to have a negative response as we here at Hollywood take great pride in our work and our customer service. After reading this review, this is my response: 1. Our regular manicures take any where from 30 minutes to an hour. Our pedicures take anywhere from 45 minutes to and hour and a half. When receiving both services in a 45 to 60 minute time slot it is considered a mini manicure/ pedicure. To which this specifically seems to be described in the review, to where additional steps were asked to be serviced and were. It also sounds as if the manicurist was asked if the entire nail was covered rather than would she make sure it was covered. Either way, it will be addressed here in the salon and gone over at our next meeting. Further more, I apologize that the controller for the pedicure chair has evidence of usage. I don't know what else to say about that. We do the best we can. We all know that every person gets 110 % from each of us. When it comes to the paraffin treatment, I am not sure what the complaint was concerning this. As the owner, I make sure that everything is clean and sanitized. I am the one that insists that the pedicure chairs be cleaned immediately after use. The paraffin is required to remain on the hands for up to 10 minutes. This is a down time for the client and cleaning time for the manicurist. Also when it comes to the review, as a client I could understand writing a review, but when a client is not happy with a service, direct contact is advised and requested. We placed the Groupon to allow individuals to get a sample of what is serviced here at Hollywood, with a phone call or a visit, Janine could have been able to experience 2 hours of true pampering during the required allotted time of service. This could have been explained and all would be happy. We have fun here in Hollywood, where everyone and anyone is welcome. Our prices are extremely reasonable specifically for the financial crisis so many people are in. Everyone deserves a little pampering on any income. We have choices of all services to take care of this time of hardship for the ones in need and for the ones that are not.. Have a blessed day. Wendy Trail Hollywood Hair and Nails, Owner."
