We hired Gerry to remodel the basement of our 1950's cottage in Falls Church. The scope of work included adding a full bathroom, converting a window to an egress window, adding a bedroom, installing tile floor throughout, installing new windows throughout, installing slate tile in bathroom, replacing existing sheetrock ceiling, re-doing the fireplace mantle, adding a bar area (sink and fridge), and upgrading the basement steps to oak hardwood (stained to match main floor). Gerry and his crew were fast, efficient, and a pleasure to deal with. They finished the job in just about 1 month. After my previous experience with another builder, I found it hard for us to keep up with Gerry's pace - he and his crew don't waste any time. The finished product looks great and we are enjoying it. I would definitely recommend Gerry and I would hire him again if another project comes up.

Gerald C. Staley Builder, Inc. did the framing and construction of our new kitchen, new bathroom, renovation of another bathroom, new windows in the kitchen and livingroom, installation of appliances in the new kitchen, plumbing work, new electric, new insulation in the attic and painting of the whole house inside and out. Mr. Staley and his crew did an outstaning job and were very responsive to our needs down to the smallest detail. He took the time to explain the do's and dont's of all of the construction he performed for us. He made sure that we were happy with the completion of each phase of the job and had no problem making corrections where needed.

Mr. Staley and his team were great to work with and listened and responded to all our concerns. Nothing bad to say. Follow up as been minimal as the quality of work was super. Detail, trim, design, and build out was top notch. We could not be happier. He worked well with the architect and other professionals used on the job. He has never let us down.

Framing the requirement, design, options and planning began in March of 2010 including, me, my wife, Mr. Staley and the architect. After designs were completed, budget finalized and permits obtained by June 2010, work began the last week of June and was completed by February 2011. We were able to live on premises while the work was being done. All of the work was done as quickly as possible but in a high quality manner. We were advised of each stage of the project in order to make plans in case we needed to adjust our schedules for our comings and goings within the house. I was really amazed at the high quality of the work and the efficiency demonstrated by all of the workers on the job. We did not bid out any part of the work but said that we would be willing to pay more for the highest quality work if necessary and this is what we received. Having said this there was some give and take on both sides while negotiating on indivdual line items within the project but all parties ended up being satisfied with the pricing. All of the sub contractors Mr. Staley used on our project had been associated with him for a long time and each one did an outstanding job. The only real hitch in the job had to do with part of the interior painting performed by that sub contractor. The problem had to do with the prep work, this part of the painting was done in all parts of the interior of the house at once rather than by individual rooms. This was a mis communication between the prime contractor and the painting contractor. In addition, one of the painters was not performing well and had to be replaced. After all of the problems with the painting were worked out and corrected the end result was an outstanding paint job that met our expectations. A lot of things impressed me about the way in which this work was done. For one, any defects or problems that arose during the project were immediately corrected to our satisfaction. Mr. Staley was very open to us and explained details of the construction that my wife and I were not aware of- it was quite a learning experience. In addition, unanticipated problems that arose during the course of construction were addressed quite well. For instance, while replacing the vanity in the downstairs bathroom black mold was exposed on the wall caused by some previous flooding; of course, I was very alarmed and concerned about this develpment. Mr. Staley offerred a solution to me that included replacing a portion of the drywall with Durock and new drywall and new paint in addition to killing the mold and cleaning up the mess. This additional work was performed and we still managed to stay within our contingency budget. All elements of this job were done in an outstanding manner from excavation, to masonry work to framing and installation of cabinetry and appliances. In addition, some old wiring and plumbing was replaced that needed to be upgraded from original construction.My wife and I went into this project knowing that we were spending a lot of money on a venture that was one of the most important monetary decisions of our lives. It would upgrade our home in preparation for retirement and make our property even more of an asset than it already was before construction. This contractor did a superb job for the money we spent and provided good craftmanship and outstanding customer service.
