SCAM ARTISTS!!!!! DO NOT PURCHASE ANY SERVICE FROM THIS CLOWNS...Read on please to get the full story on my experience
Two guys showed up to our doorstep in NW Washington, DC at 7:30pm and asked if we needed any firewood. Despite my better judgement to not buy any goods or services from unverified vendors, I decided to purchase the firewood from them. One of them (I believe his name was Mark Salyers, at least that's what it says on the card he gave me), showed me the wood on the back of his truck that they were selling. He said the wood was seasoned and high quality and asked for $150 for a half a face cord. I negotiated with him to drop it to $100 for half a face cord (which I know is till a lot of money for that much quantity of wood. Half a face cord generally goes for $25-$50 delivered to your door step). I guess I was feeling charitable at that moment and decided to pay them $200/for a full face cord. I asked them to drop the wood off at the back patio. They drove their truck in the back in the alley way to access the back patio.
I told them to stack the wood in the back and then come to the front to pick-up the payment. I trusted (I know my fault) these two to deliver what we had agreed to. I paid them $200 for a full face cord (or at least what I thought was a full face cord) and they went on their way.
A bit later I went in the back patio to get some firewood that was recently delivered to burn in the fire pit. First thing I noticed was that the amount of wood that they had left in the back was far less then a full face cord (less then half the agreed amount of a full face cord). Secondly when I tried to burn the logs of wood that look reasonable they were not seasoned at all and full of moisture. Thirdly, half of the wood was driftwood and rotten wood that these guys collected from some stream.
I got screwed royally by these clowns.
So much for trusting and being charitable. It is my own fault for trusting two tatoo laden, shady looking characters selling wood in the dark. Lesson learned. Rather pay more at a retailer then get screwed over by scam artists like these.
The worst thing is that, I actually told the guy that I would like to buy more wood from him in the future, in addition to other services and this idiot even gave me his business card.
