I like the people personally. It was excellently done and the price was really good especially on the HTAC.

They are friendly, responsive and do good work. We are happy with them. We actually have them scheduled to come in and install an HVAC system for us tomorrow.

Our home has a two heat pump system. They were 15 years old when we moved in, in 1993. A few years later, both heat pumps had been replaced. A friend, who was also an A/C contractor, had replaced them and also performed once-per-year maintenance. He did again in May, 2013, but only as a favor; he had retired.
Shortly after, both units failed; they were almost 20 years old and the air handlers were even older.
Both my wife and I had retired. Needless to say, purchasing two new systems would hurt us. First, I used Angie's List to find high-scoring contractors. I called two; Mr. Corbett was one. I then researched different heat pump systems and relied heavily on their ratings. Surprising, Consumer Report rated York systems unfavorably. So I called to cancel the appointment with Mr. Corbett of Southern River.
Scott (I apologize for not remembering his last name), who identified himself as the technician, answered. After hearing why I was cancelling, he quietly and HUMBLY began to share his experiences with York systems. Over the years he had installed thousands, so he, if anyone, would know how they match up with York competitors. One of the major points he also made is that a system's reliability depends heavily on how it was installed, which is something most consumers do not know.
I allowed Mr. Corbett to still come. Unlike the other contractor, when he came he brought not just brochures but a folder with professional information about his company (South River) and York, his primary product. He shared things about his company's reputation and the extensive professional relationship he has with government officials. He showed me a video of his visit to the York manufacturing facilities, in order for him to see for himself how these machines are put together and to 'feel' the spirit and dedication of the workers.
As I listened common sense began to tell me, Here is a man of integrity; he will not do shoddy work nor market inferior products. And I believe what York company officials believe; York competitors somehow manipulated the Consumer Reports survey.
Mr. Corbett had my business.
When he and Scott came, they did not immediately begin to tear out our systems, air handlers and all, like I somewhat expected for them do. No, they examined everything first to determine if they could be fixed. Which they did. They may last a couple of weeks, months, or years more. Who knows? But one thing is quite apparent; South River will replace them when they inevitably fail.
Readers, please listen. These are honest people! This is an honest company! Even if it means losing thousands of dollars in business!

I liked everything for what they did and they didn't do anything a whole lot. They were real prompt in coming by and taking care of the problem I had it was very acceptable.

They came out the same day we called to get an estimate (which was free). They brought with them a professional package with copies of insurance, license, and recommendations from previous clients for us to keep. The verbal estimate he gave us that day was a lot lower then the formal estimate they gave us about a week later. The formal estimate was a lot higher then we were expecting so we contacted several other companies including a "friend on the side" and received very similar bids from all of the other bidders. We chose South River because they were able to do both our electrical upgrade and the HVAC, so we only had one contractor to deal with. Also, they install through Home Depot, so I felt better about having a huge company backing them. We paid through Home Depot also and were able to get financing and had a little more protection if something happened and the job didn't get done. (Like some of the horror stories you hear on HGTV). We had some difficultly getting them scheduled because they were extremely busy with repair calls, (this was right at the start of AC season when we started this project.) Once they were on-site it took a little over a week to have the project completed, including the electrical upgrade and two HVAC systems installed. We did have issues with our dishwasher. Since we still have some knob and tube it is very specific how to connect it to appliances, but it burned up our dishwasher when they reconnected the power, however, they did replace it with a comparable model and installed it for free. We wanted a better model dishwasher (it needed to be replaced anyway), so they worked with us so we could pay the difference and get the dishwasher we wanted. They were very apologetic and very responsive to fix the problem. I am very happy with the work they did, they left little to no evidence they were in and out of the house. A lot of HVAC companies have to sub-out the electrical portion of the install by South River is able to do everything themselves.

My "Builder installed" HVAC system went bad after only three years in a new house. After hiring several HVAC contractors to evaluate my old system, it was decided that it needed to be replaced. I contacted Mr. Fred Corbett of South River Contracting for a bid on the replacement. After extensive research, I deceided South River had the best price and ability to perform the job. Mr. Corbett was extreamly cordial, knowledgeable about the products and very detailed as to what was needed and how the work would completed. His work was started on schedule and the technicians were very polite and wasted no time in completing the work on time as specified in the contract. I will definetely use South River Contracting again and will recommend them to anyone needing HVAC work of any kind.
