There simply aren't words to express how happy I am with the fabric, cushions, and service. The original cushions for the couch and chaise lounge I bought for my screened porch were not that great and over the years they just got worse, but the frames are in great shape so I just wanted to replace the cushions. I was SHOCKED by how expensive that would be because they aren't a standard size. I looked everywhere online and in stores for standard sizes that would work because custom was so outrageous, but even stand tad sizes was ridiculously expensive and a bad fit to boot. Then I took the old cushions to u-Fab so they could get the measurements and found the perfect outdoor fabric and had them make them. They are PERFECT! - now two years later after my dogs got on them and got them filthy, I've washed them and ALL the dirt came out, the covers still look great, the foam is still so comfortable and they look brand new. u-Fab has an amazing selection of top grade quality fabric, amazingly talented upholsterers, super knowledgeable sales people, and incredible prices. The BEST place forgone decorating period.

U-fab did a stunning job on it. Not only did they repair and polish the chair frame, and re tie the springs, but everything about the upholstery itself is spot on perfect. We couldn't be happier and will use them in the future.

I was recently vacuuming the couches that I had upholstered at U-Fab, and was reminded about all the issues I had concerning them. A little background on the couches: we purchased this couch and love seat set from a high-end "boutique" type of furniture store 25+ years ago. They were *extremely* well made, delightfully cozy, and of a much better quality than you would find today without paying an exorbitant amount. Having said this: If it were another set we would never have considered reupholstering!!!

At first I was blown away with the quantity and quality of the fabrics U-Fab carries, some at *amazing* prices. In addition, if you can't seem to find *the one*, there is another large selection in Charlottesville! Most of the fabrics are first run, but I'm sure others may be seconds. Most of the fabrics are decorator fabrics and come in many different weights, weaves, whatever. The staff seem to know what they are doing with regard to the fabrics, quantities needed, and color choices. If I could stop there, I'd give it a 4, maybe 5.
HOWEVER, it doesn't stop there.---I don't know specifics about time, cost, etc off hand, but two problems are glaringly obvious, one of which makes me wonder how long the couch will hold up.
When we brought our couches to them, they were pretty beaten up after 25, or so, years of kids and use. The upholstery was thread bare; there were areas that the padding was thin; a few of the pillows needed to be replaced; (and one remade that the dog ate.) In addition, there was some damage to the frame on one of the couches, and the padding on the deck was worn out making it bumpy. Still, the underlying couches were of such high quality that we felt reupholstering was worth the price. Originally, the deck was covered in a high quality muslin with a layer (or layers) of either muslin or padding underneath that held the springs in place making a nice, flat surface. When we got them back, something was VERY wrong. THE FABRIC DIDN'T LINE UP!!! In addition, the deck--which is the strong seating platform essential for the life of the couch--was inadequately redone and covered with the same upholstery fabric instead of a heavy muslin. As a result, the surface that is supposed to be flat, has numerous bumps where the springs are making their way up. This is all shoddiness as its best.
I will say, though, when I noticed the fabric so *off* the owner and the head seamstress came to the house to look into it. When they saw how the couches are, I was given a generous break on the balance. Little did I know then that the platform was not going to hold up.
BOTTOM LINE: would I buy again? probably.
will I have them do the upholstery--unless some major changes have occurred in the shop---ABSOLUTELY NOT!

They had great suggestions and really worked with me to keep the cost down. The ottoman was done before they promised.

They can get fabric from all over the world at extremely discounted prices. They are good. Well staffed and huge. They have stores in Charlottesville and Richmond. I like everything. They are professional and clean. They are flexible, timely and extremely good prices. If you have to redecorate your house, it is nice to find a place like that. Their fabrics are half the price that you would have to pay at a regular fabric place. The personnel there are helpful and knowledgeable. The turn around time for the furniture is easy and quick. They have a lot of options on how things should be done. They are very creative in many ways. I will continue to use them.

Overall, the experience was painless!! The salespeople were very helpful and friendly and also obviously knowledgeable about their work area. The fabric choices were quite good - plenty of choices, good variety and really good prices! We expected to pay more for the whole job because we didn't expect such good fabric prices. The job was completed in the estimated time frame. And the couch is beautiful!! I will definitely use this company again!

It was a fabulous experience. They did exceptional work and we are very pleased.

The sales process was painless. I dropped the furniture off and had them deliver. Fabric selections were vast. The work took several weeks. We were quoted 6-8 weeks and it took longer maybe 10 weeks before everything was delivered. We are very pleased with the results.

After deciding to recover our couch and chair rather than replace them, we attempted to get estimates from 3 providers. One was unresponsive to our inquiries. The second provided an estimate so full of disclaimers that it was hard to take it seriously. U-Fab gave us a ballpark over the phone and invited us to bring pictures to the store for a more accurate estimate. Once there, they were able to give us firm pricing and time estimates for the upholstery work immediately. The prices seemed reasonable, but the time estimates weren't pretty, it being September and they were talking about Thanksgiving delivery, but they were willing to stand by that at least.

They were very helpful in showing us fabrics that might fit our requirements, listening to my wifes preferences and not wasting our time showing us material that did not meet them. We went home with some samples, and over the next couple of weeks shopped fabric elsewhere, including at U-Fabs Charlottesville store. In the end, we selected a fabric from the Richmond store for the chair and one from the Charlottesvile store for the couch.

We purchased the fabric on October 1, the couch fabric had to be ordered, so it was a week later before that was in. At the time of purchase and contract, I paid for the fabric, pickup and delivery, and 50% of the upholstery charge. The promised delivery date was the 2nd week in December.

Amazingly, due to a cancellation I think, U-Fab completed the job by Mid November. The work was, I thought, exceptional. The pieces looked better than new. U-Fab not only recovered them, they restuffed the cushions, so the furniture actually functioned better than new too. It was an excellant value too. We shopped for replacement pieces before deciding on reupholstery but didn't find anything we liked. But the price for anything close exceeded what we ended up spending on reupholstery by $1000 or more.

It turned out very well. We were happy with it and we are planning to do some other work with them. If you have a good couch and you like it, this is the place that you need to go. They took a little bit longer than we expected to complete the job.
