What can I say about Brian Tyrrell? Brian totally flipped the inside of my home. There were a lot of negative interpersonal and communication issues in dealing with this contractor. 1st he was the only contractor I have ever dealt with so I have nothing to compare. However, I have a good friend that is a real estate agent and has dealt with many and was told "they're all a pain in the ass." One thing I will say about Brian is he held his promise in regards to my house. He told me "I'm gonna make this thing shine" and that is exactly what he did. His recommendations were really good and I believe his pricing was very fair. The quality of his work was also very good. When he finished with my house, it was so awesome I sold it in 1 day. I actually give Brian somewhere between an A- and B+ for my overall experience. He gets a D for all the interpersonal and communication issues I dealt with but he gets a solid A for the quality of his work and holding to his promise of making the house look amazing and completing the work when he said he would. If you are a single woman, I would look around a little more or if you have a strong man in your life (brother, dad, boyfriend) that will be able to deal with him, don't hesitate to hire him. If you are married and your husband is strong and not a passive wuss, I would say hire him without hesitation. When all was said and done, I would actually consider hiring him again to do work for me because he did such a good job.

Brian and his team did high quality work and kept their promises. Brian gave us an estimated timeframe of 6-8 weeks which we planned our move around. We added a few items onto his task list and they were still finished and out of the house before the 8 week mark. Brian gave us an estimate knowing there would be unexpected findings and stuck to his price, doing what was necessary to get the job done. When we added painting, floor refinishing, and some unexpected plumbing (unrelated to the renovation) to the project, Brian helped us get the best price and coordinated the work within his timeline so that everything was completed by our move. My husband and I have done many renovations in the past and this experience was by far the best.

When my wife and I wanted to finish our basement, we turned to Brian, who had just finished building out the nearby Taza coffee shop. But this wasn't just any basement remodel. Brian and his team started by jackhammering the concrete floor and digging down into Richmond's red clay a foot to get the basement ceiling at just the right height. They filled 5 dumpsters with concrete and dirt before they ever started building. When they did start, things went quickly and according to schedule: drywall, tile, plumbing, electrical, fixtures, carpet, etc. Everything was great, and if there was any issue, Brian took care of it immediately. I was really impressed with his calm under pressure. Even more impressive were the built-in bookshelves he created in the living room. We spend a ton of time in the basement now.
Overall, I would highly recommend Tyrrell Builders in the future. Highly!

My house was built in 1928 and the back section of the roof is flat. We had some work done -- primarily patches -- in 1995. Tyrrell Builders put an insulating board down and then covered it completely with a rubber material -- that according to them will last me 30 years! I couldn't be happier.

The workman came early one day and worked nearly 12 hours and then returned the following day for about 5 hours and were done. No mess was left behind and I hardly knew they were there, except for pounding on the second day.
