I do not recommend SMARTBOX Long Distance (SLD), a division of SMARTBOX PORTABLE STORAGE (SPS), at all for a long distance (state to state) move. Although every SLD & SPS employee that I have spoken to in person, via phone or via e-mail, has provided effective customer service (e.g., timely responses to phone messages and e-mails; listened to my feedback; courteous and professional, etc.), it does not make up for the fact that my shipping units were delivered three days later than agreed (in part, I?m sure, because the
units did not leave MD until three business days after the units were picked up from my MD home. In addition to the units being late, there was damage to the boxes and, therefore, to my belongings, when they arrived to my new home in TX. Most frustrating was not receiving any (or only partial) explanations for why the units were delivered late and damaged. 

Also, a word of caution: although the SPS website says, "Take all the time you want [to pack] (up to a month for one monthly fee)," this is not accurate for a long distance move. For a long distance move, you have to complete the initial delivery, pickup, shipping (approximately 4 business days), redelivery, and "repickup" process in one month to prevent an additional monthly fee. You also need to factor in that SLD will not re/deliver or re/pickup on weekends.  Additionally, be ready to take a day off of work because you won't find out until 9am on the day of your re/delivery and/or re/pickup the ?two hour window between 9am and 5pm? that your units will be re/delivered or re/picked.

The customer service from my initial call was phenomenal! I called on a Saturday night to get mroe details and possibly order the Smart Boxes. We were moving out of our old home within a month and to an apartment until we found a new home. They were very understanding about our situation (unexpected timeline, unavailable address for final delivery, etc). We had two boxes delivered to our home, we kept them at our home and filled them up for about 2 weeks then they came and got them. You only had to be there when they were first delivered and they came and picked them up while we were at work. We fit our entire garage in one of the Smart Boxes and were able to store furniture, books, etc. in the second. The size was better than alternate storage units of its type because it was sufficient space but allowed us to separate the garage items from the house items. I called about a week out to schedule delivery to our new home once we were ready to close and they were able to drop it at our new home without us being there (we were moving in the next day) and picked it up that day. Their flexibility and quick turnaround saved us from paying another month of rental fees. We did not find a single item that was broken or messed up during transport or storage. I would definitely recommend them to our friends!

It was a few hundred dollars; I don't remember the exact amount. They are really very reliable. They have very nice service. The gentleman who brought the boxes was very helpful. He was very timely. The stuff that we put in there came back to us in the same condition as we put it in there. There was no damage or anything like that. Nothing was damaged, lost, or broken. They brought it in and told us what we need to do in terms of packing them up. They brought the boxes in and brought it back in a timely manner. They took good care of our stuff. They stored them in a climate-controlled area. They were cheaper than another company was. The boxes were in excellent condition.

While I've not yet received my boxes back, I will next week when we move again. I found this company very easy to work with, very professional, and great customer service. Every time I've called the local office with a question they have been most helpful in helping to finalize the movement of our belongings. They were even flexible with pickup to alleviate an additional month's charges. As for price, I don't think it's any more expensive than a storage unit. If it is, it is WELL worth it for the additional money to not have to take all of the items to storage, load and unload them in a vehicle to get them there then move them in, and to still know you can access your belongings at any time. I wish we had moved our additional belongings out of storage into a smart box to save us from hiring movers! If I move again, I will most definitely use this company.

Very good service. They were on time and delivered the boxes just as we needed them (we used 15 boxes, so it involved multiple deliveries and shuffling the boxes around as they were filled and emptied.

We were doing some spring cleaning and needed extra storage while we cleaned and organized our stuff. The person I spoke with was very thorough and answered all of my questions with a happy demeanor and even offered me a discount based on the fact that we needed the box to stay on our property. My only complaint was that I had a question about when the box was coming and I called on a Sunday and no one got back to me until Monday. If you have to get questions answered make sure it comes up Monday through Saturday. Brett the driver called and let me know when he was going to drop the box off. When he go there I wanted to box in a very particular spot at the end of our driveway between the house and some trees on the other side. He worked with me to make sure it was placed perfectly and level (since the box was partially off the driveway.) My husband and I are now using it to store stuff for our community yard sale while we clean out the rest of the garage and attic. The whole experience has been great.
