John Simpson arrived to review all the work I needed done. On the exterior there were several pieces of siding that had to be replaced, windowsills that had rotted and wood trim that rotted, interior trim that had to be replaced and a ceiling that had to be repaired after a heat pump leak. John provided a written estimate after our review and the estimate was extremely reasonable. We scheduled the work and he arrived on the date and time he promised. He and his team got right to work and all were extremely personable yet very professional. I couldn't be happier with the work that he did. You can't see any difference in the replaced siding and he matched all the paint perfectly. The interior work was absolutely flawless. I am preparing to sell my house and once I'm in my new place I intend to have him do the work I'll need there too. He delivered everything he promised.

Overall the job seemed like it went well. One issue that arose is that the people building the deck left a lot of shavings and scrap wood under the new deck. I was concerned that it would attract termites so i had to get under the deck one late night and clean it out before the put on the siding the next day. I was new to using contractors so did not know i could have asked the workers to clean under the deck. They did do a good job of cleaning up afterwards nicely. While the deck looked nice, I found out from a deck construction company that the deck was not built to code so i will need to have several parts redone when i sell the house. If it was not for this last point, i would have given a better rating. The contractor chose not to cover the fixes under warranty.

This was back breaking work but this is where johns general construction skills really kicked in. He installed all the insulation and flooring without too many issues and did not charge any extra money for laying down the insulation even though I asked after the job started. One of the boards was missed and the drywall on the ceiling below the attic did come loose in a few spots because there was a little too much insulation was added. I repaired this out of pocket else I would have given this an A.

The work included all doorway trim, window trim, and later a palladium window frame/trim (which was requested later). He did an ok job of scoping out all the damaged trim. He did miss a few spots which he added to the contract later for a nominal cost but i had to flag the spots he missed. His team cut and installed the trim perfectly - no gaps or crooked trim. However, i told his team numerous times to use good quality caulk since i read bad reviews about the DAP caulk. I told them i would pay the extra costs for material and labor a number of times. Six months after his trim work was done, ALL the trim caulk cracked. I had to hire a handyman out of pocket to repair all the caulk - John was in peak season and I felt his team would not do a good job repairing the caulk. He said he completely repaired the palladium window in October/2015 but in summer of 2016 it rained badly and i noticed that there was water trickling through the window he fixed. While the job looked nice from the outside, his team didn't anchor and seal the inside of the window frame. I did not trust johns team to do this repair and hired a handyman out of pocket to completely redo the repair to the palladium window properly.. Johns team did a great job painting the exterior trim and the siding. When i mentioned the challenges i had with his work, he said he was happy i had found others to help me. When i asked him this year for reimbursement for the out of pocket costs towards other work or just a partial refund, he was snippy and said he had severed the relationship and already made concessions. Note, his contract stated his work was warrantied for a year. I went out of my way in 2015/2016 to keep his team employed because he hit some slow periods while waiting for contracts and i felt bad for him.

I couldn't be more thrilled with the service and cost of the jobs that I have had done by John Simpson. Not only is the quality of the work done beyond my expectation, but he always goes further than what is in the contract, gives a little more than you ever expect.  It is so rare to have a contractor you can trust, who shows up, has great ideas, works with you, provides timely quotes, reliable service -- and then gives you MORE.  I almost hesitate to give such an honest review -- I want him to be mine mine mine and on tap whenever I might need him, but it wouldn't be fair not to tell others what an amazing contractor he is.

Really ? I am not being paid to write this review, I am just that happy with this contractor, John Simpson of Simpson?s Home Improvements. From the beginning of the process to the end, John is attentive to his customer. I found that he responds in a timely manner to phone calls and emails. John was prompt in showing up for the initial meeting and took his time to walk thru the different projects I had in mind taking notes and measurements. Simpson?s estimates were reasonable, neither the most nor least costly based on the other estimates I received, and at the end of my various projects I felt that I received more than my money?s worth. John is also good at project management, laying out the day?s work objectives. I was happy to see that he gave his crew a chance to learn new skills (i.e. grouting tile) but under his supervision. John also has a great crew working for him. Despite my inability to describe what I wanted, the crew came up with the right solution/look when replacing my landscape timbers.

I had to wait almost two months because of his very busy schedule, and the work itelf took almost 4 weeks, but it was worth the wait.  I was very pleased with everything. Bottom line ? I would hire Simpson?s Home Improvement again.

He did a fantastic job.  He is a tiny bit expensive but he is very good.  The hardwood floors that he installed are beautiful.  I recommended him to my sister and she used him as well.  I would use him again.  He is hard to get now as he has so many high reviews.  His price was probably within competitive bids for what he did.  His specialty is working with wood.

John and his helper came out and tore off all the rotted boards. Replaced what needed to be replaced and repaired what could be repaired. They worked for 3 hours and cleaned up all their mess - which they kept in a neat pile until they hauled it away. We painted it ourselves which means we were up on the roof and could see that he had done a good job. The best part is that the actual price came in less than his original estimate since he didn't use as many boards as he thought he might need - made my day!
The fact that he returns phone calls, shows up for the estimate when he says he will, shows up for the job and then completes it correctly and cleans up after himself is huge. Too many contractors either don't call back or don't bother showing up.
We were very pleased with his work ethic and will use him again.

The contractor was on site for about 7 days. I have always been very hesitant about hiring contractors especially for this large project ( kitchen remodel) as I'm always fearful they will skip steps here and there. As you can see in what I put into the what did the provider do field it was very detailed on what Johns company did for us.

First off let me say John and his 2 employees were very friendly, kind and professional.

The first impression my wife and I got after them being here for 2 days was how thorough they were. They spent 2 full days on prepping the entire kitchen ( removing old wall paper, fixing holes, priming, sanding, priming again, sanding again walls and cabinets). Once the painting started they were as thorough in it as they were with the prepping. I have seen allot of painters in my time but the painter John had on is team was one of the best I have ever seen. His attention to detail was evident in his work and you could tell he had pride in his work as he did a phenomenal job in the painting of the kitchen and the cabinets. He used multiple coats ( always 2 or more) on everything that was painted, even the primer was 2 coats on everything.

We had new cabinet doors made from another company that John deals with and they also turned out great. John and his team painted our old cabinets to match the color of the paint on the new cabinet doors and drawers we had made.

One of the other major items we had John and his team do was remove our old counter top and put in a new one that we had made. Right from the start of taking the old one off we could tell that more work was needed than first thought as some of the wood had broken and some was rotten. John never complained, never asked for any additional money, he just went about and did an awesome job fixing the wood for us, adding additional edging and fixing things here and there to make it look professional. They really did allot of extra work on that countertop replacement and never once asked for any additional money. That's a great credit upon his company and his professionalism.

In the end, this was by far the best contractor experience I have ever had, they did a phenomenal job, did allot of extra little things here and there to really show they took pride in what they did. We were extremely please with the outcome of our new kitchen.

After clearing our bedrooms for carpet installation, and discovering we were a week early, we wanted to capitalize on the extra time by having the rooms painted. We knew it would be a tight schedule, but thought we'd give it a shot. We called John on Tuesday morning, and he came by Tuesday evening to take a look. He immediately spotted all of the problem areas we wanted repaired without any direction from us. After giving the rooms a thorough inspection, he emailed an estimate that night that was itemized and fair, and said that he could get the work done on Thursday and Friday so that we would be ready for carpet the next Monday.
John came by on Wednseday evening to get some drywall work done so that he and his crew could get started immediately on Thursday morning. They worked Thursday and Friday. Each day, we came home to clean rooms that were vacuumed and neat.
On Friday, after the work was done, we found a spot that had not been sanded. We called John, and he came by on Saturday, repaired and repainted the spot and vacuumed before he left. It took about 30 minutes and looks perfect.
John and his crew worked quietly and cleanly. Everything looks fantastic. We live in a bungalow built in 1927, so we have no straight lines and corners left, but the paintwork looks even and clean. All of the repair work is smooth, and we had no hassles from John at all. He came when he said he would, did the work in a timely manner, cleaned up after himself, and was pleasent to be around. He even loved on our three (heathen) dogs and didn't mind when the cats came to "help."
We have been looking for a general home improvement guy, and John is our man now. Though his estimate was a bit more than we expected, he did pull this job off for us in a really short amount of time, and the quality and ease was worth the money. Besides, a dependable, responsible, neat contractor is worth the money, and you can't go wrong with Simpson's. We will be using him for the work we are doing in the next month to get our house ready for sale, and feel confident that the house will look fantastic and will be finished when promised.

After living with the room for a while I called Greg Simpson. I had noticed a few places where the wall had been spackled and once painted you can easily notice the difference in texture at that spackled part of the wall. Also, I found that one of the guys forgot to lift the chest of drawers from the bottom and an end board from the top was pulled off the chest by all but one end.

I called John (it was near to Christmas) and of course being Christmas John had plenty to do...not only professionally but personally. I didn't expect him to do anything until after the Holidays.

He said he would get in touch with me after the Holidays and swing by and fix this problems. I have been waiting for his call.

If you read any of these please call me John...I want you to be the one guy I've know that actually is a man of his word.

Thanks, Jill

I found John Simpson et al. when I first joined Angie's List last year. He put a vanity and new faucets in the half bath. So neat and professional. He did such a great job and he ended up charging me less than the quote because he didn't need to do as much as he originally thought he would. How often does a person charge less than what they quoted.

They are just honest, hard working guys...with a need to vacuum and clean after themselves (oh, they also moved the large pieces of furniture I couldn't...no charge). This time I had them basically redo the bedroom. Zipping it up with some crown and doing some essential patchwork on the old walls that are cracking and showing nail heads. The paint job is so beautifully done. I picked two colors for the walls and the "cut in" work is just perfect. I have no question that I'm in safe hands and I come and go at will when they're here. From my experiences with Simpson's Home Improvements, I don't have any worries about who to call when I need some work. I can't wait till we do my next project. Oh, BTW...these guys are great...they hung my drapes back up and fixed a loose faucet just 'cause...that's the way they roll!

Don't hesitate to call Simpson's...you'll be very pleased with their work and them!

John and his team did an excellent job. Very professional and they kept the site clean during the remodel. I felt comfortable having them in the house when I was out during the day knowing they were hard at work. I would highlight recommend the company. Prices were fair and we are very pleased with the outcome - they did an excellent job!

John Simpson was very punctual, he showed up when he said he would. He provided a detailed written estimate and the work was performed per the estimate. He completed the work in the time frame promised and I was very satisfied with the quality. The work area was left neat and clean. I thought the price was fair. I will definitely call him again for my future painting and handyman needs.

John did an excellent job with this project. He met with me before the work began and provided an estimate. While he was working on the project he kept in touch with me and was very gracious in his willingness to work around my schedule. The finished product looks great. I'm very impressed and pleased with the work John did and would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone that needs home improvement work done. The work he does is most definitely top notch!

John and Mark does a great job in everything they do. They are very professional and polite. No project was too small for them. Their price was fair. I gave them a "B" rating on their pricing because all prices could be cheaper. I can't say enough about John's work. You will not regret hiring him. He has given us a quote to add fencing to our deck to make a dog run. As soon as the approval from HOA comes in we will hire him back. We will always call John for any handyman services. Thanks, John.

Very excellent. He was there when he said he would be there. He is respectful and tidy. I ended up giving him more money than he asked. I had a major leak in a bathroom which sunk the floor and he raised the floor. And fixed the downstairs ceiling. It was completely rotted and he fixed the major project. He also put in a foray for me, the cat had pulled up the carpet, and he replaced that with tile. He put in 3 thresholds in 3 bathrooms. And he tiled the upstairs bathroom.
