John Simpson arrived to review all the work I needed done. On the exterior there were several pieces of siding that had to be replaced, windowsills that had rotted and wood trim that rotted, interior trim that had to be replaced and a ceiling that had to be repaired after a heat pump leak. John provided a written estimate after our review and the estimate was extremely reasonable. We scheduled the work and he arrived on the date and time he promised. He and his team got right to work and all were extremely personable yet very professional. I couldn't be happier with the work that he did. You can't see any difference in the replaced siding and he matched all the paint perfectly. The interior work was absolutely flawless. I am preparing to sell my house and once I'm in my new place I intend to have him do the work I'll need there too. He delivered everything he promised.

Overall the job seemed like it went well. One issue that arose is that the people building the deck left a lot of shavings and scrap wood under the new deck. I was concerned that it would attract termites so i had to get under the deck one late night and clean it out before the put on the siding the next day. I was new to using contractors so did not know i could have asked the workers to clean under the deck. They did do a good job of cleaning up afterwards nicely. While the deck looked nice, I found out from a deck construction company that the deck was not built to code so i will need to have several parts redone when i sell the house. If it was not for this last point, i would have given a better rating. The contractor chose not to cover the fixes under warranty.

This was back breaking work but this is where johns general construction skills really kicked in. He installed all the insulation and flooring without too many issues and did not charge any extra money for laying down the insulation even though I asked after the job started. One of the boards was missed and the drywall on the ceiling below the attic did come loose in a few spots because there was a little too much insulation was added. I repaired this out of pocket else I would have given this an A.

The work included all doorway trim, window trim, and later a palladium window frame/trim (which was requested later). He did an ok job of scoping out all the damaged trim. He did miss a few spots which he added to the contract later for a nominal cost but i had to flag the spots he missed. His team cut and installed the trim perfectly - no gaps or crooked trim. However, i told his team numerous times to use good quality caulk since i read bad reviews about the DAP caulk. I told them i would pay the extra costs for material and labor a number of times. Six months after his trim work was done, ALL the trim caulk cracked. I had to hire a handyman out of pocket to repair all the caulk - John was in peak season and I felt his team would not do a good job repairing the caulk. He said he completely repaired the palladium window in October/2015 but in summer of 2016 it rained badly and i noticed that there was water trickling through the window he fixed. While the job looked nice from the outside, his team didn't anchor and seal the inside of the window frame. I did not trust johns team to do this repair and hired a handyman out of pocket to completely redo the repair to the palladium window properly.. Johns team did a great job painting the exterior trim and the siding. When i mentioned the challenges i had with his work, he said he was happy i had found others to help me. When i asked him this year for reimbursement for the out of pocket costs towards other work or just a partial refund, he was snippy and said he had severed the relationship and already made concessions. Note, his contract stated his work was warrantied for a year. I went out of my way in 2015/2016 to keep his team employed because he hit some slow periods while waiting for contracts and i felt bad for him.

I couldn't be more thrilled with the service and cost of the jobs that I have had done by John Simpson. Not only is the quality of the work done beyond my expectation, but he always goes further than what is in the contract, gives a little more than you ever expect.  It is so rare to have a contractor you can trust, who shows up, has great ideas, works with you, provides timely quotes, reliable service -- and then gives you MORE.  I almost hesitate to give such an honest review -- I want him to be mine mine mine and on tap whenever I might need him, but it wouldn't be fair not to tell others what an amazing contractor he is.

Really ? I am not being paid to write this review, I am just that happy with this contractor, John Simpson of Simpson?s Home Improvements. From the beginning of the process to the end, John is attentive to his customer. I found that he responds in a timely manner to phone calls and emails. John was prompt in showing up for the initial meeting and took his time to walk thru the different projects I had in mind taking notes and measurements. Simpson?s estimates were reasonable, neither the most nor least costly based on the other estimates I received, and at the end of my various projects I felt that I received more than my money?s worth. John is also good at project management, laying out the day?s work objectives. I was happy to see that he gave his crew a chance to learn new skills (i.e. grouting tile) but under his supervision. John also has a great crew working for him. Despite my inability to describe what I wanted, the crew came up with the right solution/look when replacing my landscape timbers.

I had to wait almost two months because of his very busy schedule, and the work itelf took almost 4 weeks, but it was worth the wait.  I was very pleased with everything. Bottom line ? I would hire Simpson?s Home Improvement again.

He was punctual, professional, and did excellent work.  I plan to use him again for other projects when they come up.
