My hat's off to foreman Will Massie of Saunder's and crew who rescued our slate roof from a very botched job. Saunder's was hired to tear off our slate, replace rotten decking, replace our dormer valleys, chimney flashing and dormer window sill aprons with new copper, reseal our gutters with elastomeric and reinstall the slate on our heritage house in the Woodland Heights neighborhood of Richmond. After various and serious issues came to surface from the first crew that was sent to do the job, Saunder's project managers Joe Rogo and Ricky Smith as well as Saunder's owner got involved. A new crew was sent out the following day to make corrections lead by foreman Will Massie. Mr. Massie and his crew came in like the cavalry, tearing off the botched work, making necessary corrections while executing the upmost levels of professionalism. They worked steadily and as expected daily. They were never late coming to the site in the morning or coming back from lunch in the afternoon and they stayed working steadily until the end of the day never leaving early. Will and crew corrected all issues from the former crew, kept the site clean, executed the job Saunder's was contracted to do and addressed all follow up concerns with perfection. I have worked with many roofers in the Richmond area since purchasing a century old home but I have never been more impressed by a roofer and roofing company than I have been with foreman Will Massie and team from Saunder's Roofing. My only regret is not hiring them sooner.

they made it worse. They clogged up my one soffit and water leaked into my ceilings. They would not take responsibility for it. They left bricks up on the roof and gutter from old fireplace.

When it rains now, water shoots off of this gutter sideways and sprays my neighbor's house like a fire hose. This is after numerous call backs to get them to fix terrible carpentry (left rotted wood, left big gaps between pieces of wood, cobbled the thing together from a patchwork of tiny pieces of wood so they wouldn't have to buy longer lengths). We have had problems with their roof work, which I reviewed separately. But really, this gutter is so ridiculous that it really deserves its own review. So here it is.

This company installed a TPO roof on my house last year. The work had obvious flaws from the start that the company repeatedly refused to take responsibility for. For example there were gaps between the edge of the roofing material and my brick parapets that I could stick my fingers into and wiggle them around. Their response was to hand me a tube of caulk and walk off. So of course the roof can't hold water and I have water running down the inside walls of my house. The company won't fix it. Every other workman, architect, and even insurance adjuster I talk to in town says that they hear the same complaints about Saunders Roofing -- they do bad work and then refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes.

They said that the roof that they put on was hand-crimped tin and it only had a five-year warranty. They said, "Oh gee, too bad. Your warranty just expired." The roof was leaking. It was a very expensive roof. They gave me an estimate of repairs and then I started looking around for other roofers. When the other roofer came out, they did a good job. Their repair was less than Saunders. They pointed out a design flaw that Saunders had used that you shouldn't use on a hand-crimped tin roof. Seven years ago, I would have given them an 'A,' but, with the follow-up, I was very disappointed. Their job didn't last. It lasted five years and a couple of months. Two years ago, the first guy came out right away. But then he said, "Well, I'll have my manager talk to you." It was weeks before the manager got back to me. They were professional. There was nothing unprofessional about them.

Very professional job at a very competitive price.  3 heavy rains since the repairs/installations and no sign of leaks.  Would use them again.

I got a quote from these guys in 2013 and 2014.
Both times they were professional and prompt.  They provided several options and took pictures of the problem.
I ended up going with Saunders due to their professionalism and haven't regretted it.

They gave a detailed evaluation, comprehensive proposal and performed the work in a very professional manner. They fabricated material in their shop each day, arrived promptly at 8:00 a.m. and worked steadily to accomplish the job every day for one week, despite excruciating summer heat. The workers were very polite, personable and considerate in parking their vehicle and transporting materials. They cleaned up each day and left the site immaculate when the job was complete. Their workmanship appears to be excellent.

They found and detailed a priority list of other existing deficiencies in our old roof and we plan to follow up and correct the most serious. I wholeheartedly recommend this firm.

They were very nice. Everyone who worked for this company did a great job. They were terrific. We never found a nail that was left behind. Everyone did a great job cleaning up.

Company re-roofed our 28-year old home with architectural-style asphalt shingles. Everything about dealing with Paul Saunders Roofing has been top drawer, from the initial meeting and follow-up with sales (no yucky high pressure) to having a 4-6 man crew at our home for 3.5 long days this week. The roof is beautiful and, we assume, functional as well since this company has a solid reputation and plenty of work. I appreciated the little things they did, like protecting the flower beds, picking up all trash/waste from the job daily, disposing of our old siding, and playing with the dogs. These folks are proud of their work and seem to enjoy it and each other. Who knew that having a roof put on could be a pleasure?

We have worked with them for 20 years. They are very professional, reasonably priced, and well known for being a specialist for slate roofs. I also feel that they are trustworthy with their evaluations.

Not good. The estimator turned up without notice after 2 weeks of waiting. The estimate dwelled on replacement of the roof but not a repair job as I'd also requested. I (my fault) mistook the repair part of the estimate to be repair of the porch roof but somehow it applied to a mansard gutter above the roof. This was not what I had requested to the estimator. Finally someone turned up to make the repair to the mansard gutter (that I'd never really wanted) while my woife was in Labor. The message was left less than 24 hours before the person turned upo to do the fix. Of course nobody was at home, since did I mention... WE WERE HAVING A BABY! So bottom line is I ended up needing to pay for a repair that I never wanted, and still had the original leaking porch roof problem which went unresolved. I must take responsibility for misunderstanding the estimate. However this company needs to focus on better communication with the customer at every level. Mailing something in writing and having someone perform the work without anyone at home and without any confirmation that they want the work performed on that day is just plain poor practice. If you don't hear from the customer, and they are not at home then you simply should reschedule the work with them. I spoke with the company and let them know my opinion. They offered to provide a new estimate but I declined future work and paid my bill.

Great experience, but heavy on the wallet.

Horrible service! We kept having to have the same work done over and over again. The replacement roof was poorly installed and caused additional leaks. The final straw was when we were selling the house. The prospective purchasers got Graham Aston, President of Paul Saunders Roofing, to inspect the roof. His report found fault with all the work his company had done over the years and said the roof needed over $25,000 in additional repairs. I would *never* use this company again.

They worked from dawn to dusk for five days. They were very conscientious. They weren’t the cheapest and they weren’t the highest.

They were very honest about their work. They broke a piece of my slate on my roof and they replaced it and told me about it. They were very punctual and professional. The price was good for the size of my house.

My overall opinion regarding the work that was done was that Saunders Paul Roofing Company did a good job. I had to call them back out to do some minor adjustments on the edging. It was nothing major like a leak, but that wouldn't stop me from hiring them again. I didn't have to clean up behind them so that was important.
