Like other reviewers here, Robert was often a no show and didn't return calls. He did shoddy work on the roof and failed to ever complete the job despite getting money for materials. As a result we have a $4800 judgement against him. Again like another reviewer's experience, Robert never showed in small claims court. There were always a ton of excuses for him going missing. I don't believe he's a liscensed contractor, and I question whether he is even insured.

Contractor stated he was squeezing us in because he had an upcoming job to paint the fencing at the Pentagon.  Went on to say he had a federal security clearance to do that job; yet, unknown to us, he brought in two felons to help with our painting job.  One of the two felons had apparently passed the federal security clearance investigation - either the contractor misrepresented the truth, the Feds have a lousy investigative system, or both.
The contractor, who was supposed to be here to actually do the work was not dependable.  He failed to appear at the job site for several days, and ultimately was unresponsive to repeated phone calls.  Always a different excuse - sick, van broke down, etc.
Because he pays his staff cash under the table, he was quick to show up for installment checks as the work progressed. He wanted the final check without having done a walk-through.  I reminded him that he had not performed several tasks outlined on the initial agreement.  The job went longer than anticipated, in large part because he wasn't here to participate and oversee it. This caused us personal inconvenience as we were supposed to go out of town and couldn't leave until the job was finished.  On the last day he was here, he was finishing the tile/tub work and said he's be back for caulking/finishing that portion of the job. He never followed through.
Most importantly, right after we left town, our house was vandalized.  The copper was ripped off the back of the house.  Never had a single incident in 25 years until this contractor brought felons into our home.  We were able to reach the contractor to advise of this.  The felons are still working for him and he now refusing to respond to repeated phone calls, text messages, etc.

I was extremely pleased with all aspects of our experience with Old Fashioned Painting. I received prompt attention from my first phone call to Robert, and his communication was excellent throughout our job. Robert and crew were friendly, tidy, and did excellent work. (They like dogs, too!) They completed our large project on-time and on-budget. Our walls look so fresh and pretty (they were in horrible shape before) I don't even want to hang up my pictures! And, I was thrilled that Robert was able to help me with additional items that were not part of our original job (like replacing my front door threshold) at a very reasonable add-on cost.
I definitely look forward to using this fine company again. In fact, I'm going to reach out to them today...

EXCELLENT!!!!! Workers were professional and knowledgable. Robert, the owner is friendly, professional, knows his profession extremely well. In addition, he is a true handy-man, able to repair additional items around the house. The job was completed in a timely manner.....I was actually sorry to see them go but they aren't far away because my neighbor was impressed with his pricing and final product that they hired him!!! Also, I have 2 dogs, one a puppy and all of the workers were kind and understanding while the puppy jumped and barked at them. One even helped me chase her down the street as she ran away! :-) I HIGHLY recommend them to everyone! Never again will I be taken advantage of by over-priced, incompetent painters! If you need painting call soon!! Because of his reputation and dedication to his work, I am sure he is in high demand!!!!

We had done some small patch repairs on 2 different walls in our 1 year old house and used some left over paint that we had thought was still good to use.
What we failed to realize is that paint - if not kept sealed tight in a can and meticulously shook up occasionally - will separate and not provide the consistency or color that will match the paint on the wall.
So we had 2 small wall repairs that became 2 big painting mistakes and with mismatched paint.
This was what OFP educated us on and why they were more than helpful beyond just repairing our mistakes on short notice.
We called around and most painters either wanted a bigger job or were booked a couple of months out - We suspect the former more than the latter.
But Robert of OFP returned our inquiry immediately, arranged to come by on the same day, and then put us on his schedule the next day. He even suggested to use Sherwin Williams paint matched to the Ben Moore that was on the wall. Not so much that it was less expensive as it was more about trying a product he really believed and stand behind on.
Also - we were dying to try SW paints also and agreed to the formulation.
He showed up with his 2 techs and they got done in about 35 mins. No drips, no stains, no dust.
The repairs were hidden and blended in seamlessly with the 1.5 year old paint on the wall, no1 will ever know that there was an issue with the patches!
OFP cleaned up after themselves and Robert called back to check if we were happy with the results the next day.
Like previous posters, we were very happy albeit there was a spot that they missed which Robert came back himself to touch up immediately.
While this was a small job, Robert showed that no job is too small and that our satisfaction and his reputation via customer's word of mouth is critical to his survival.
I am here to endorse his services, his fair pricing and his professional demeanor. There was no up sell!
Robert's friendliness and willingness to listen and provide professional guidance only makes us more willing to contact him for incrementally bigger jobs in the future.

.Again, please see my additional review on his work on our mudroom. We discovered he is not a licensed business entity in the state of Virginia, nor is he a licensed contractor. He misrepresented himself as both.

They fixed everything we asked him to. He did touch up watch and it is a lifetime guarantee. He cleaned up after himself and he was on time. He is known for his ability to work on old homes and replace parts with authentic pieces instead of plywood. He is going to redo our bathroom.
