On August 4, 2011, after numerous failed attempts to reach Mr. Crockett to address the issue of the leaking shower we contacted a local plumbing company in Richmond, Virginia that has experience in installing this type of shower. On August 5, 2011, a plumber was dispatched to the residence and accessed the damage on the shower. The plumber climbed under the house to determine the extent of the leak as well as were in the shower was the leak coming from. The plumber advised that the shower had not been properly installed, leveled and caulked. It was also noted that Mr. Crockett did not attach the shower to the studs in the wall. He also drilled a hole into the back of the shower wall through the fiberglass to install the shower head. The shower head should be installed on the wall above the fiberglass wall of the shower. The plumber stated it was clearly obvious that Mr. Crockett did not know what he was doing. Now were are forced to have to purchase another shower for $800 and have it installed by a plumber.
Description of Work: Called on Mr. Crockett to do some odds and ends at my in laws home in 2009. He was contracted to fix up the main bathroom. This job entailed him fixing the sub-flooring that had rotted due to a leak from the toilet as well as put down tile on the bathroom floor as well as replace the current toilet. This job was completed with in a couple of days and did a nice job. Since Mr. Crockett did a good job we called him back in September 2010 to do some other things in the house. We contracted with Mr. Crockett to replace the kitchen cabinets, retile the kitchen, paint the kitchen, retile the mud room, replace wood paneling in the den, tile the master bath, paint the master bath, and replace/install a new surround shower in the master bathroom. Mr. Crockett was consistently late to show up on the job. Days would pass before we would see or hear from him. He took a lot of short cuts which affected the quality of the work. He painted the kitchen and the quality of the paint as well as the quality of work were mediocre. We had to request numerous times for him to come back and redo the paint in the kitchen because he did not properly sand down a patch that was made on the wall so when he painted over the spot it was very obvious. The worst part of the job was the replacement of the shower in the master bathroom. We purchased a 38" Cerise Surround shower from Home Depot and he installed it. Ever since he installed it the shower has leaked. We called Mr. Crockett numerous times and all he or one of his employees would do is add more caulk. He would never strip the old caulk off nor would he prime or clean the area with alcohol before applying more caulk. The came out to re-caulk at least six times and the shower still leaks. Once again we made numerous attempts to call Mr. Crockett and after awhile all calls and correspondence were ignored. Mr. Crockett is not a plumber yet he attempted to tackle something that was over his head. Mr. Crockett never pulled any permits while doing work on my in laws home. I have been told that when you have a contractor that does not pull permits that is a red flag. On January 23, 2007, Mr. Crockett was sited by the Department of Professional Occupation & Regulation for not having plumbing and electrical permits to do a job. This contractor will often advertise in the REACH Magazine that comes free in the mail.
