This will be a long review. I am giving them 5 out of 5 stars for the excellent service they provided. And Yes, I am a paying customer. I HIGHLY recommend D and J Tree Service for your tree thinning or removal needs. On to the review.... I needed to remove a large non-producing cherry tree that was leaning toward my neighbors yard. I went to Home Advisor to search for a contractor to remove the tree, I entered the job requirements and received four responses. I made appointments with 3 of the 4 responders. The first two came out, looked around, made an offer and left. I didn't get a sense of...anything...while talking with them...other than it's just a job...here's my quote. When Jim of D and J Tree Service came out, we greeted each other and right away, I saw excitement in him demeanor. As he began his inspection and evaluation of my property and the job at hand, I saw his since of honesty, knowledge, and professionalism. He identified all the types of trees on my property, explained the process of how a tree is removed, explained the cleanup process, and gave me a great quote. Because he identified my tree as a cherry tree, he offered to cut and stack the larger limbs for me to be used as a source of fuel for my large smoker grill. YES, I was surprised to learn that I was about to get about 3 cords of wood for use on my grill!! An added bonus!! I hired him on the spot!! Jim and his team arrived at the agreed upon time and got down to business. As I had never seen a tall tree being removed, I watched and recorded the process. Jim donned his protective gear, climbed up the tree and got to work. He was very methodical in his procedure and very aware of where the bigger limbs would land on the ground. He takes the safety of your property seriously as he controls where the limbs will land. As the tree began to disappear from the top down, it was fascinating to see Jim move around and cut limbs. At one point, as he was preparing a limb to be lowered, the wind caught it and slammed it into his thumb. The initial pain was obvious and it produced a minor cut, but he put a band-aid on it and kept it moving. His ground team did an amazing job of keeping Jim safe up in the tree and helping him guide the limbs down and remove them from the work area. They used a limb grinder machine to ground down the smaller limbs into wood chips. Ahhh...my source of wood smoking chips just materialized!! I got about 100lbs of wood chips out of this deal as well. HAPPY ME!!! I was really interested to see how they were going to remove the tree stump. Jim brought out a stump grinder and this monster tore into the stump like it was a hot knife going through butter. In about an hour, about 80% of the stump was gone...the other 20% being under my deck and inaccessible. But since I'm doing work on my deck, I'll have him come out and remove the remainder of the stump when it is accessible. All-in-all, the job took about 4.5 hours. I got a couple of cords of wood and a couple of bags of wood chips for use on my grill. Jim and his team are professionals...they know their business. I was moving around the work area and asking questions and they were happy and cheerful to answer them. Jim and his team are friendly, humble and respectful. If Jim does all his initial meetings with prospective customers as he did mine, I'm sure you'll immediately like him and want to hire D and J Tree Service for your job. Again, I'm not a spokesman for D and J Tree Service; I am a paying customer. 5 out of 5 stars and HIGHLY recommended!! Thanks Jim, Charles J of Manassas, VA
