In the middle of December 2010, I had to evict the tenants from my condominium for non-payment of rent for many months. When I went into the condo to clear all the trash they left inside, I was crushed by all the damage they had done: holes in the walls, door knobs removed, screens ripped out, carpeting totally destroyed and more. I live hundreds of miles from the condo (I'm in VT) and wanted to find someone to do the needed painting and repairs. I knew Chris and his fiancee for several years but only knew that he did windows. I talked with him about needing a lot of repairs done and found out that he did professional contracting and repairs. I asked him to take a look at the condo and let me know if he would do the work. I knew that Chris would be honest with me and treat me fairly, which is something that mattered a great deal because of the long-distance nature of the project. Once a contract was established, Chris and his associates began work. They progressed efficiently and professionally at a good pace. Considering that sub-contracting was involved, requiring some lead time for the delivery of ordered kitchen cabinets, the time frame in which the work was done could not have been better. It took less than 2 months from beginning to end. I've been more than pleased at the detailed accounts provided on the progress, as the job unfolded, and am very happy with the end results. There were no nightmares involved in this process at all, which makes me really pleased. The job was done with an emphasis on quality. Everyone that Chris has to assist him on the job is highly experienced. I highly reccomend Chris Dickerman, the Window Elf, as a contractor.
Description of Work: My condominium was in need of major repairs and renovation, caused both by tenants that were evicted and due to the age of the building. Chris inspected the condo thoroughly and provided a written report of the repairs to be made, who would make them, and the high/low prices for each service. In most cases, I opted for the higher quality of upgrades to make the condo more attractive for selling or renting. Chris provided regular reports on the progress of the work, and he always consulted me when there was any change or addition required. This was greatly appreciated, since I live hundreds of miles away from the condo and had to do things long distance. I had a friend available in Herndon to act as my representative in anything that needed viewing or in-person consultation. My friend and Chris both emailed pictures to me of the progress and final results. Chris had some associates to help with the work, all of whom had great experience in repairs. Chris sub-contracted, when needed, to assure that all the work was done in an expert fashion. He met with the property management to coordinate things that needed to involve them. All of this was done in a professional manner and I felt comfortable in knowing that Chris was in control of the project. The repairs included rewiring of the electric outlets and installation of a new fuse box, wiring for television outlets, new switch plates, and more. Repair of the two bathrooms included new vanities and lights, upgraded toilets and new showerheads. There were 3 bedrooms, a dining room, living room, laundry, kitchen, halls and a foyer. All needed drywall repairs, two coats of paint, new carpeting (except the laundry, kitchen and foyer), and the foyer needed installation of wood laminate. The kitchen cabinets and lights were entirely replaced. All of the interior doors, including the closets, needed repair due to the previous tenants and the closet doors had to be repainted. The screens were replaced, where needed. A utility room off the balcony was given a new lock, with keys to be the same as the ones for the entry door. A water shutoff handle in the laundry room had been broken in half and was difficult to use. This was replaced and put in a location providing easier access. There were other repairs and enhancements, so this is just an overall description of the type of work required.
