Powder room
Floor
Tiles were not level and the grout lines were inconsistant. The whole floor was lower than the original causing you to step down into the room. They did not install a threshold leaving a gap because no one thought to install one.
After the worker contacted the company he said they had planned on putting in a wood threshold to match the foyer floor just outside of the powder room. The foyer floor is not wood it was tile... ** I had asked twice about how the company was going to address the threshold weeks before they started.
Mike (owner) and Nate (head of flooring) did come the next day after we complained to evaluate the floor. They agreed it should be re-done raised to make it level with foyer floor and installed by an more experienced worker. They asked us to go get a threshold that we liked and they would put it in. The floor's height now matches tile in foyer but is uneven and the grout lines still vary in size.
Granite Vanity Top
Wrong Granite
We had to pay an up charge because we wanted the same granite we had in the kitchen which we agreedd to. When installers came to measure we wanted to confirm that they were installing the correct granite- checking the name of the granite and showing them the counter. Installer told us they didn't have that granite and were going to install a different granite. We contacted Mike who told us the names were different but it was the same. Having purchased the kitchen counter ourselves we knew that was not correct. He said he try to locate the desired granite. Two days later he called and said he had. He wanted us to go confirm it at the same granite company that was here before. I call they granite company and had them email a photo of the granite it was the same wrong granite. Mike asked us if we could find the desired granite, we found it with one phone call. Professional remodeler? We ended up buying the granite ourselves and having another company install it.
Living Room
Hardwood Floor
Subfloor ended up having to be leveled. We provided the wood. They charged a ridiculous amount of money to correct the problem. The floor is flat but not even close to level. You should see marbles cruise on this floor!
French Doors
The door was installed with 10 factory defects. Haze and lines of white paint in between the double pane glass. Scratches on glass. Chip in the wood. Holes for hardware not level. Clad seams with glue that had seeped and hardened. Missing insulation strip between doors. The screen lock was located on the outside. But even with all of those defects they installed it anyway.
We notified Mike. The door manufacturer sent out a rep to evaluate the door and agreed it need to be replaced. *Fast forward three months- finally was having the door reinstalled by the manufacturer but they couldn't make the screen panels fit because Macco had put trim on the outside of the door that made the opening too small. That would explain the hack job they did on the runners- jagged and preventing the use of the quick release knobs.
Contacted Macco about the problem. It took us 8 emails and over a month and half before we could get Mike to finally arrange for someone to come correct the problem.
We were made to feel like our expectations were too high and we were bothers through out the whole renovation. The final straw was the unnecessarily terse and impatient e-mail from Mike asking when he could expect his final payment- which had been mailed within 4 business days of receiving the invoice even without having a corrected and functional French door and screens. Yes, he got paid but we were left to live with a door that didn't keep the winter air out and damaged. Macco never called to follow up on the disposition of the door or to conduct a final walk through that Macco touts on their website. They got their money and they were gone. We have all of our emails to back this up.
"At MACCO we strive to provide prompt and professional services. Projects may have delays or challenges such as material unavailable, supplier errors or physical challenges within the property. We work with our customers to manage their expectation’s and deliver within their budget requirements. Sometimes we encounter projects that no matter our efforts, the customer cannot acknowledge that although issues and challenges arose, the project completed and we worked with them to provide the best possible outcome. This customer’s home has settled after many years and the entire 1st floor is not level as a result. The customer’s budget did not allow a complete tear up and rebuild to produce the level surfaces desired. These expectations were not mentioned during requirements, design or material selection phases of the project. As our customer states, we redid work, we credited them and we attempted to assist them in their efforts to obtain satisfaction with manufacturers errors, however the work requested and contracted for, would not ever have corrected the structural problems."
I also have my own electrician that I work with, and Mike and Macco were happy to coordinate with him as well, no questions asked, no grumbling about no using his guy, etc. All good!
Of course there were some hiccups along the way. This was a sizable project with framing, drywall, foundation digging/trenching, plumbing, fixture installation, and painting. But if his team caught the problem, they fixed it. And if I mentioned something to Mike, he made sure it was resolved, no questions asked.
At one point however, I felt that Mike was offering me too many add-ons at a premium price. Things like doing major duct re-working that was waaay out of scope, and a $5k heat exchanger / AC unit. When I told Mike "enough with the add-ons", he heard me loud and clear, and they stopped. No hard feelings. He didn't do what many other contractors try to do which is to scare me into thinking that my decision is wrong, costly, or otherwise a terrible idea. He respected my request. I liked that.
Definitely recommend Macco - and Mike in particular - for this kind of work.
They started Sept 8th. The worker had been told that they were moving the laundry upstairs but no details. My wife had to tell them about the project. Two hours later (after most of the demolition had been done) Mike shows up to explain the project. From that one incident, I should have suspected that there would be little to no project management.
Four weeks into the project I pointed out that there wasn't any sound insulation in the walls of the laundry room. I had specifically mentioned in the quote that the laundry walls would have sound insulation. Apparently no QA either as well. After my email, two of the four walls got sound insulation. I was told by Mike that we didn't need to insulate all four walls. That wasn't his call and I paid for all the walls to have sound insulation.
After four weeks (1 week late) we were told that they need to focus their resources on a house that was damaged by falling trees. Okay, I understand that would have a higher priory than my project. After all, my house is not exposed to the weather.
After more than five weeks (two weeks + late) I had to go on vacation. My vacation had been planned when the project started not knowing they would be so late. The washer and dryer were moved up to the 2nd floor and hooked up. The vent for the sewer gas was capped and not hooked up to the house sewer vent (should have been done when the vent was installed) and the dryer vent was terminated under the insulation in the attic, no vent installed to the outside. Before we ran laundry to go on vacation, I had to uncap the sewer vent (and recap before going on vacation) and disconnect and rotate the dryer vent up so the insulation wouldn't get wet from the dryer exhaust.
After almost eight weeks (5 weeks late) they redid the dryer vent so it vented into the eaves of the roof, Not only is that a code violation but the contract required venting the dryer directly to the outside. Once I pointed it out, it was fixed, but yet again I had to QA.
I finally had had enough of MACCO, when after Mike said the project was finished and wanted the final payment, I looked in the attic again and found no insulation in the former attic access, no insulation to very thin insulation around the dryer vent and insulation compacted or thin in the work area. Yet again, no QA. At this point, I had enough with MACCO and would fix the remaining problems myself.
Wanted to be hands-off but that wasn't going to happen with MACCO. I would suggest that if you hire MACCO to do any project for you that you will have to be the project manager and QA Inspector. MACCO didn't do either.
This was but the first of many projects that we have planned for this house, more than $80k and MACCO failed on the first project. Glad we didn't have them to do all our projects if that is the way they conduct business.

MACCO provided a very competitive estimate for their appliance installation service, maintained frequent communication prior to the installation date, arrived on time, completed the installation in one day, and cleaned up before leaving. Our kitchen cabinet need to be trimmed since the old oven was smaller. They completed the installation to our satisfaction.

Arrival times were always one to two hours later than promised.
All workmen were professional and did their jobs competently and quickly. I'm particularly fussy, and the completed products could have been more "perfect," but overall, a more than acceptable job. Nobody has noticed what I have noticed (including my wife), so, as I say, I'm particularly fussy.
Were very good in cleaning up the mess they made; they protected the floors on the way to the work site.
Friendly workmen. I enjoyed having them around.
As to the work itself:
They demoed the original shower down to the wall studs. They then built the walls back up, installed a solid floor, and tiled and painted. Also installed new toilets in both the unit's bathrooms. Except for the frameless glass door, the work was finished in a week and looks great. They left a temporary shower curtain until the custom glass work could be completed. The guys covered the floors where they were transiting and left things is good shape. It took about two weeks for the glass work to be completed offsite. They returned to install the glass which took just a few hours.
The only hiccup was a slow leaky valve on one of the toilets which the crew came back the next day and immediately fixed.
I am pleased with the results and would recommend anyone give these guys a call when something needs to be done.

"[member name removed], Thank you for the great review. It was a pleasure to have met you and be of service to you. Enjoy the summer. Mike McCarthy"
We were on a limited budget and they were very respectful of that to ensure that what we were quoted was the final price. I was quite happy that even though we were not able to go "top of the line" on our upgrades and repairs that our work was still given the time, attention and priority that it was, even though we were not "high-end" customers. They were quite willing to work with us on our timeframe and budget which was very much appreciated.
If there were any issues that needed to be addressed they were fixed promptly and with no additional costs (outside of materials when necessary). We will definitely be calling MACCO again for future repairs and upgrades to our home. I would (and have) recommended MACCO highly to others.
The managers and staff at MACCO are clearly men of their word who take pride in what they do. We are much happier with our new home after the work that they did.
"Thank you for you review. It was a pleasure working with you. We look forward to our next chance to please. Have a great Holliday MACCO"
The Macco crew is the team you want to work on your home. During the past six months we have hired Macco for three different projects on our home- one being an ?urgent? response and repair. This team is what you are looking for- trust, integrity, quality, professionalism, timeliness, and value.
Trust and Integrity. For most of us, our home is our largest investment. So, when you hire someone to work on your home, you want someone you can trust. Over the course of your project, the Macco team will earn your trust. They do this through several steps (even before the actual work begins):
1. A thorough and complete inspection and review of your physical project area- this is to translate your ideas and dreams into the reality of construction.
2. A ?sit down and discuss? period to ensure what the Macco team is thinking is what you are thinking (tell them what you want).
3. A complete written estimate of the entire project- broken down and explained by line item.
4. A written project plan of the project phases and which Macco team member will be working which phase of your project- so you know who is supposed to show up when.
Quality and Professionalism. The project that the Macco team completes doesn?t just look good, it is good. We love the ?wow? factor that we hear from family and friends when they see what the Macco team has done- ?wow, this is amazing? or ?wow, this is a good job?. The workmanship of each project has stood the test of time and the abuse of our kids. Throughout the projects the Macco team remained flexible by adjusting details as our ?thinking? adjusted over the course of the projects. They have also returned after the projects were completed to do touch-ups.
Timeliness and Value. Almost every Macco team member arrived on the project site on the date/time specified on the project plan (one team member got caught up at a family event on a Sunday, so that was okay). Each project was completed on time or before the project deadline. The bottomline with cost is that the Macco team is not always the lowest bidder. But, when it comes to your home, do you really want ?cheap?? Of course you don?t, you want quality.
The Macco team exceeded our expectations and we want to say thanks to all of them- Mike, Mike, Theo and Magda (and their son), Josh, Paul, Arturo, and the framing and drywall father and son team.
"Thank you for your kind words! We work very hard to provide a high quality product at a reasonable price and its always great to hear feed back. We look forward to our next chance to exceed your expectations. MACCO LLC"
"Thank you for your feedback. We enjoyed working together and look forward to future projects. MACCO LLC"
"Thank you for your kind words. We look very forward to working with you in the future!"
