I brought my classic car in for a new engine. Although the
owner is very nice, communication is lacking. With just under 400 miles, the
engine blew. I had it towed back thinking I would be relatively safe with a 3
year, unlimited miles warranty. Far from it. Right away I was accused of racing
the car(I was not) because high revving would have been the only reason for the
damage. I never accused them of a bad repair job, rather that maybe the parts
could have been defective. Repairs would cost me a few hundred dollars less
than the cost of the new engine! I explained that I had to contact a lawyer
because I did not think it was fair. The owner agreed to meet me half way on
repairs instead of dragging it on, mentioning covering parts.  Reluctant, I agreed. Thinking of how much it
would cost me to have it towed to another garage for repairs, court costs,
time, etc., I figured just to get it done. During the second time they had the
car(as with the first time), the only communication I got was when I hounded
them. I waited 2 months after I dropped it off to call them to check on the
status, and they "just so happened" to move my vehicle into the
garage that morning. I called a month later and they told me the same thing. It
should be noted that I documented every time I communicated with them and wrote
down what had been discussed. When my car was finally complete, my portion of
the bill was more than half. In the end we determined that the true cause for
the breakdown was that the car was tuned for racing. Not knowing that at the
time of breakdown, the vehicle was being driven on the highway when the
incident occurred.
  Bottom line-1)
Instead of looking into other factors that caused the problem, I was accused of
racing the car and automatically had to pay for the damages. The warranty is
not valid if there was neglect on the driver's part, which there was not. 2)
The communication is sub-par. Even after agreeing to pay half, I would have
noticed that the portion I was about to pay after repairs was more; had I
received the invoice the day after our agreement like originally discussed, I
would have caught that. Again, because of poor communication, I did not. The
only reason I just ended up paying what I did in the end was out of frustration
and to end the nightmare.
