I had dealt with M. M. Crockin since 1963 and had always been pleased with their furniture and service. So, when I decided to carpet the living room, dining room, and hallway of my house, I was happy to learn that they also sell carpet. I purchased a high-end carpet and pad because I was planning to retire and wanted to have everything in the house as user-friendly as possible before I quit work. What the salesman did not tell me was, Crockin does not do carpet installation. They sub-contract it out. I'm not even sure who they contracted it out to because only one man on the team of installers could speak English and he left shortly after the job began. The "installers" ripped up the molding from all around the floor (except the stairwell) and proceeded to knee the carpet to the wall. They used no stretchers that I could see. They scratched the paint off of the molding and walls; they did not remove doors or adjust the doors in any way for the carpet; there are many places where the carpet is simply sitting on the floor with no attachment at all. Naturally, it began to buckle shortly after installation. Crockin's solution was to give me the name of a guy who would fix the wrinkles "cheaply." He charged $100 and fixed the first huge wrinkle across the living room. A few months later, there was another wrinkle. Twice I have paid someone to patch up Crockin's sloppy work. Now, I'm having what I hope to be a real professional fix the problem, at least in the dining room and hallway, permanently. They said a real installer would have used a machine to stretch the carpet and there should be no places around the walls or radiators or fireplace where you can just pick the carpet up with your fingers. I have not bought anything from Crockin since this carpet disaster and I never will again. My back is aching from moving books from bookcases and dishes from china cabinets so carpet men can fix their mess AGAIN.
