In 1999 this company installed a 2 ton 10 kw Arcoaire heat pump on our second floor, an identical unit on the first floor, and a 75,000 BTU gas furnace. Beginning in 2008 we began having trouble with the downstairs unit during the summer. We had two service calls from this company that summer which did not resolve the problem. In 2009 we had three service calls which, again, did not resolve the problem. This year, beginning in March, the problem with the air conditioning resumed during an early heatwave. I called for service, but the unit began working again before a crew was dispatched. In July I was told that the company had stopped installing Arcoaire units because of a large number of reported problems from customers. I was told that a key employee would come out to troubleshoot the problem on July 8, but he nor anyone else from the company arrived. We had the hottest summer on record. The unit downstairs broke down often, leaving us sweating all night at least once a week. In early September I called the company again to schedule service. It was determined that the service call should be made when the unit was not working to make it easier to troubleshoot, but the unit began working again before anyone came out to troubleshoot. A service call was scheduled on September 22 for a key employee to come out to troubleshoot, but two other gentlemen arrived instead. After several hours of inspection, the problem was diagnosed as a fossil fuel kit problem. Before leaving, the servicemen told me that they had temporarily bypassed the fossil fuel kit to allow the air conditioner to work. They told me that they would get back with me with an estimate for a new thermostat with a fossil fuel kit compared to an outdoor fossil fuel kit. Less than an hour after they left, I noticed that the unit was blowing out very hot air. I called the office and was told the service men had temporarily wired the unit incorrectly. The next day a key employee told me that he would come out with a new thermostat that included a fossil fuel kit. Instead, another service man arrived with a thermostat that did not include a fossil fuel kit. When I told him he had the wrong thermostat, and I had to call the office to resolve the misunderstanding, he mumbled something and left the property without explanation. I called the office, and by this time I was annoyed by the entire situation. I was told that the key employee would not be available to come out until the following week. I told the office that plan was unacceptable and demanded immediate service. The key employee arrived later that day and installed the new thermostat with a fossil fuel kit. We have had no problem with the unit since that time. I received a bill a couple of weeks ago for $462.00 which included a $5.00 trip charge. I will paid for the work as charged, but I am very unhappy with the service. I will not use this company again, and I give them my lowest possible rating.

"Our company did install this equipment, which ran trouble-free for almost 10 years. In this case, we encountered a complicated electrical control issue with multiple ways of approaching repair. We did end up dispatching different technicians throughout the service calls, but only because we were very busy (mid summer) and we wanted to dispatch the first available to the client. Unfortunately, even the best heating and cooling equipment breaks down. In this case, we definitely complicated things by not communicating well with our customer and technicians. We aim to learn from every mistake, as they happen, and will never make a customer pay more for a service or repair because we made a mistake. We invested more than 5 hours of total repair time, multiple trips and repair parts, solved the issue, and only charged for a small portion (in an effort to make the bill what it would have been under perfect circumstances). Almost any other company would have run into similar issues and would have almost certainly charged twice as much as we did for these repairs, though, it is no excuse for lack of proper communication. Since this issue, we have worked hard to improve both our customer and employee communication skills."
