We were impressed with the high quality of the work performed for us by Clawes Carpeting of Oakton. In 2021, we first asked them to replace all the carpeting in our Oakton townhouse, in preparation for sale. The superb installation work and attention to detail contributed a lot to our being able to sell the home promptly. Based on this great experience, we also asked Clawes to replace damaged hardwood flooring and replace old wall-to-wall carpet in our newly purchased condo. The teams from Clawes excelled! The workers were prompt, worked hard throughout the day, cleaned everything up, and left us with outstanding looking flooring and carpeting. We recommend Clawes Carpets of Oakton highly!

Everything went very smoothly. Sales personnel was helpful,installers moved all my furniture, installed carpets so it looked great and put everything back exactly as I wanted.

Clawes Carpet did a terrific job from start to finish. Their prediction about when the hardwood would arrive at their warehouse was accurate and they were timely with the work at my home. The work had an extra wrinkle in that we replaced most of our bi-fold closet doors with bypass doors having tracks recessed into the floor. Clawes did a great job of laying hardwood strips between the recessed tracks and adjusting as necessary to make sure the closet doors would operate correctly. On the remaining set of bi-fold doors, they cut out most of a board into which the bottom of the closet doors was installed, leaving only the small sections supporting the doors, and laid hardwood smoothly into the closet. The floors are beautiful!

The project is now completed and we are very satisfied with the service and product provided by this company. We would definitely use them again for any future carpet needs. The sales rep in the Oakton store was very professional and knowledgeable about the various carpet products displayed in their showroom. He was very helpful throughout the decision/purchase process without being overbearing or "pushy". The installers showed up exactly on time as scheduled and completed the work as expected. We thought two seams were more visible than expected and requested that they be evaluated. Mr. Clawes was very responsive, visited our home within a few days, and readily agreed to have the seams redone. That work was completed on the scheduled day as promised. You can't ask for more than a company that guarantees their work and stands by their promise to satisfy their customers. These folks were great to work with and definitely delivered as promised.

We initially walked into their Fairfax, VA store where the staff greeted us with friendliness and interest; and as soon as the staff realized that our home location was more geographically convenient to their Bristow store they suggested that we might want to work with their Bristow store. Something we were unaware of and were readily agreeable to. However, this did not deter the Fairfax staff from taking very good care of us before we left. They continued to act as if they would have been our primary contact by making a direct call to their Bristow store and immediately setting up an appointment for their Bristow store estimator to meet us back at our house later that afternoon. Doug our estimator discussed the possible hardwood styles and brands that would best match the existing Bruce hardwood that already existed on our first floor and stairway, and after receiving estimates on two appropriate but different styles we decided to remain with 2 1/4 inch wide Bruce flooring. In addition, after visiting their Bristow store a couple of times learning about the products that they had to offer, checking out carpet samples, and at the recommendation of store staff having the companies mail larger swatches of carpet to help us narrow our choices to one, we ordered top of the line carpeting that we believe best fit the floor traffic and use for the locations of where the carpet was being laid. From start to finish, from the storefront staff at both locations, to Doug our estimator and "go to guy" for immediate feedback to our questions, to the warehouse delivery staff and the installers, their operation was most professional, friendly, patient and helpful. Could not ask for better customer attention and care. All appointment dates and times were precisely met. All work was started and completed as described. Their price and time line was hard to reject..

Please read whole review as I am striving to be balanced in my review.   There were some very definite strengths but also some definite issues.  Some things went really well and others did not go well.  The workers were all committed and did quality work.  We were pleased with the carpet and carpet installation.  We were very pleased with the hardwood floors on the main level (although we would have preferred it if the edge molding and the thresholds had been finished in advance and polyurethane for a higher quality look instead of just being stained on site the day they were installed).  The work itself on the bathrooms was excellent and Jim Turner does excellent, high quality work.  He makes sure the details and issues are addressed and taken care of and doesn't take short cuts like a former service provider had.  The service and support provided by Jeff Horchner, from the Oakton/Vienna store was superb.  He provided accurate information that consistently validated, was responsive, patient and direct as we worked through this project.  I always knew I'd hear back from him quickly and get answers to my questions.  That being said there were problems with measurements being wrong, tile bullnose not being ordered for the hall bathroom (we solved with master bathroom by ordering all the tile directly ourselves) and there were some issues with scheduling and one of the subcontractors related to the stair project saying they'd arrive at a certain time and several hours later (after we'd taken off work to be there) we'd get a call saying he couldn't be there that day - nice guy, super quality work but if you aren't a stay at home person then a challenge.  The measuring was all done by Mike who is personable but not an accurate detail/ quality type person.  Biggest problem and only one we just didn't go on the flow with was the hardwood stairs.  The hardwood stairs were initially measured incorrectly so when they came for the install the stairs were too small for the space (it was only 7 stairs by the way).   They did a quick turn on the stairs which we appreciated until we realized that there was this white film coming up on the stairs ( we did extensive research and learned the polyurethane had been put on too quickly and hadn't been allowed to season sufficiently).  We called and finally a manager came out.  He told us we needed to learn to pick our battles and that he couldn't see anything even though others had seen what we were talking about.  He snapped at one person in front of us and we got a call from another that he'd been fired (of course was taken back somehow).  We were told they would put a runner over the stairs since we should have one anyway because of our dog. (hmm why hadn't anyone told us that up front?).  Anyway, we said that didn't solve the problem.  Nothing was going to be done.  Finally, I wrote a 5 page letter outlining everything that had happened and got an "offer" to take a few hundred off the cost of the stairs.  I explained that didn't solve the problem and wasn't acceptable.  Finally, I am pleased to say, after my being persistent and not letting it drop the issue was resolved and the stairs are now great.

I wish all my home improvements went as smoothly as this one did!  It was so easy!  I had been reluctant to put hardwood in the bedrooms because I was concerned it wouldn't match the rest of the house which we did about 10 years ago. We worked with Jeff and Mike and they made sure that we received the right product.  They were scheduling about a month out but we really wanted the work done before Christmas. Luckily, they had the product in their warehouse so they were able to schedule us much sooner.  Jose and his crew arrived at 9am and worked steadily until 6:30pm.  They were professional, polite, excellent at their job and were very patient with me at the end of the day when I couldn't decide where to place the furniture and area rugs!  I am SO HAPPY with my new floors.  Mike, Jeff and his team really went the extra mile for us!  I would highly recommend their service!

Overall, the experience was very good.  We visited the Clawes Vienna, Va. showroom.  The sales rep was very helpful in advising us on what would be advisable for a stair runner and the differences in types of carpet grades and manufacturers.  We took home a number of samples to select what we wanted.



The installers arrived close to on time, but got the job done, which included removing old carpeting, tightening bedroom floor boards to remove squeaks, installing new padding and carpeting in four bedrooms and closets, plus installing new carpeting and padding as a runner on the steps.  We are very pleased with the work of the installers.



The only reason I gave the company a "B" in Professionalism is that I have not heard from anyone since the install.  Maybe my expectations are unrealistic, but I would think that for a job of this size, someone at the company would have called to thank me for the business and ask if I was satisfied.  I also think they would want to convey information on proper care of the carpets.  None of that has happened, which I find surprising.



Overall we are satisfied with the upfront sales help and the installation.  Post-installation follow-up would have been a nice customer service gesture.

The job could not have gone more smoothly!  We actually had three different teams for each different aspect of the job, a hard surface team that installed the vinyl flooring in the basement, a team that removed and installed the carpeting and then a finish guy who did the basement stairs, added the trim pieces to the upstairs stairway, and installed quarter round in the hallway and basement.  All three teams were master craftsmen.  Each part of the job was expertly executed and Mike and Jeff coordinated everything so each phase of the job went exactly as scheduled. The teams worked very tidily, completely cleaning up each day after they were through.  They taped up plastic sheeting at each entrance to contain the inevitable dust from the removal of the carpet.  They arrived promptly each day, and the one day that they were going to be late, they called to apologize and let us know when we could expect them.  Once the job was complete, they even vacuumed all of the new carpeting!  Mike was very easy to work with and understood (and delivered) exactly what we wanted.  To say we are thrilled with the result is an understatement.

Great experience.  They first came to measure the rooms and were very professional.  The carpet was great quality and they gave me a discount for referencing Angie's List and also for tearing up my own carpet.

They replaced the carpets in our basement. I got two different prices from them.

The salesman at the showroom quickly provided a simple and understandable explanation of why a house inspector had told me that I could not have ceramic tile installed in my kitchen (cabinets would have to be raised to allow for the greater height of the tiles, possible for a complete kitchen redo but not practical when all I wanted was a new kitchen floor). That taken care of, he steered me to the best options (vinyl tile or sheet).  I took home several samples to chose among.  The person coming to measure the floor arrived on time (actually a little early) and provided an estimate the same day.
The estimate of timing for ordering and scheduling installation of the tiles was accurate.
The installers removed the old tiles and the old subfloor (damaged and not in good condition -- some of the old peal-and-stick tiles had come off over the years and exposed parts of the old subfloor to wear and water).  Moving the furniture and the removal and installation of the new subfloor and vinyl tiles in the kitchen and foyer was done efficiently and took most of the
day.  The installation supervisor consulted with me when it came time to decide how to align the tiles in the kitchen with those in the foyer (straight grout line to grout line or grout line to middle of tile).  I chose the latter and think I made the
right choice.  He was also patient with an inexperienced homeowner when, glancing down at the kitchen from the top of the stairs, I mistook the new much lighter subfloor for the new tile.
The installation was done well and looks good.
When I asked about care and maintenance information I was told that I would receive it in the mail, which I did.  I don't know if that is standard procedure or because I specifically asked about it, but it is appreciated since I want to keep the floor looking good.
 

We have used Clawes before and always had a good experience.  So when we needed to re-carpet our basement to get our house ready for sale, we turned to them.  Since their sales personnel don't work on commission, they are always very straightforward about their products.  In this case, they recommended a carpet that was on sale and of sufficient quality (noting that the new owners would probably tear it out anyways) and brought the job in much cheaper than we expected ($1700).  They installed it seamlessly on the date we needed.
While in the store, we saw a runner we liked for the stairway and upper hall in our new house.  Clawes has an expert in installing runners and he did an amazing job matching the pattern through multiple turns on our staircase.  It looks sensational.

Clawes Carpeting has been a joy, an absolute joy to work with.  Their owner came out to give the estimate and he was wonderful to work with.  We will also have Clawes putting in vinyl flooring in our 3 bathrooms and kitchen in a few days. 
We had an issue with black mold on our lower level as we had pinhole pipe leaks that caused the problem.  Room had to be totally remediated --drywall and insulation taken out and old carpeting had to be removed. Pipes were repaired and we waited about a year to see if we had any more leaks.  When all remained dry we replaced the insulation, drywall and had the room painted.  Last step was the carpeting. 
I can't say enough about Clawes.  Great firm to work with.  I understand they also steam clean carpets and do it with industrial-type equipment.  We will be having that done by them afer we get the vinyl flooring installed.  I plan to leave a separate review for the vinyl flooring as that is a separate job.  But....I expect it will be the same outstanding service as we received from the carpet installation. 

I selected Clawes based not only on reviews but because they are a family company with 40 years success.  With definite parameters already in hand, I was quickly and professionally assisted at the Vienna location by salesman Jeff Horchner.  He loaned out large samples so that I could carry them home and to my parents' home.  Decisions made, we all returned and set up installation with Jeff and Mike Dollar with no fuss.  Both these gentlemen, and later the installer supervisor, took pains to accommodate our schedules, which were different for each residence.  The estimator, one of the Clawes family, arrived promptly on schedule to measure; he was friendly and informative. 

The installers were timely, efficient and yet very careful.  It is impossible to see where the carpet pieces were joined.  There was not a mark on the walls or the baseboards in either residence, which was great since my parents' home had just been freshly painted.  They did an entire floor in one house and a family room in the second. 

It was a easy and pleasant experience and I would highly recommend Clawes Carpet.

Excellent except for the confusion of the pricing on the carpet order. We were given plenty of samples to help make a decision at home. Selected carpeting of two kinds one for main living area and one for game room. Unfortunately, the pricing was written up on the pricing of the game room carpeting only which was less expensive. They did try to compensate by discounting the main living carpet some. It worked out fine because we actually thought the price given was cheaper than we expected. Schedules were set up and the installers were wonderful. I couldn't believe the carpeting was done in one day. They had a good system of moving furniture from one room to another while laying carpeting in an empty room. Our rooms aren't large so I was amazed they could accomplish this. The process went smoothly and the installers were hard working and very pleasant to have in the house. We have had it in now for several months an couldn't be happier. The kitchen was done on another half day. We did have to have them come back to complete some missed caulking but they readily came and checked out the entire area to make sure everything was fine. Again workers were excellent and willing to answer any questions we had and carefully moved big furniture and appliances.

Clawes in Vienna is great! We had walked in a few YEARS ago and looked at many samples. Mike helped us with sending samples and giving us samples. He was very nice and never pushy. We got an estimate about a year ago. Tim (?) was very good in saying that he would honor the quotes that were given long ago.
They had great communication with us. 
They came in at the appointed time.
The best thing is that they did a great job on cleanup and showed us the work they did. (some places do the work and then just leave, without showing or explaining what they did)

Installation was on time and was done in the promised time period (2 days). We are very pleased with the floor. Tim, from the Vienna store, was very helpful in selecting appropriate flooring and answering all our questions. I would definitely use them again for future flooring installations.

very friendly people and would recommend working with them.  A small issue with the initial measuring appointment, but this place is hard to find.  I'd recommend if you have a condo, you confirm with them how to get there, park, and where you are goigng to meet them.  The price was slightly higher than I was expecting, but the carpet is really nice, and I'm not a huge fan of carpet.  Gave an Angie's list discount and helped me get what I needed in time before my move back to my home.  My only complaint is the installers asked me if I had a vacuum cleaner because they didn't feel like going to the van to get their cleaner.  I fortunately did, but really didn't think it was too much for them to get their own vacuum. 

The people at the Clawes Carpet store was very patient and helpful, and even saved us quite bit of money while picking out the hardwood floors for our house.  They are very patient and polite, and they did a great job in our home. They worked very quickly, and were able to complete the job our large job (5-6 rooms) in one day. Our floors look great, we get a ton of compliments!  I would highly recommend them to anyone else looking for flooring needs in Vienna.

Great job.  Store staff and  work crew were courteous and meticulous.  They took time to explain details and options along the way. Quality was excellent and they made sure we were satisfied.  They stuck to the estimate and schedule.  We will use them again.

Went great.  We were out of town and they came in did a great job and made the floors like brand new.
