Let me tell you the story of how Mike of Air Pro rode to our rescue on the coldest weekend of the year after another company despite two attempts could not repair my broken furnace.
My furnace first stopped working on Feb 14, 2015. At the time that was the coldest day of the winter. I first called Mike of Air Pro but got his voice mail message. I hung up without leaving a message which almost turned out to be a very costly mistake.
I then called the company who installed the furnace less than 10 years ago. Their repairman arrived at my house within a couple of hours. He tinkered with the furnace for about a half hour. He announced the "flame sensor" was dirty and cleaned it. The furnace started working. I was charged $96
The furnace worked intermittently for the next week. It was never off for very long because I'd tinker with the thermostat or the on/off switch or another do-dad. Eventually I'd get it working again.
I called the other company and told them the furnace was working intermittently and asked them to come back out to fix it properly. That company told me that it would be extremely hard to track down an intermittent problem and to wait until it broke down completely.
On Feb. 20, 2015, the coldest night in over a decade, the furnace broke again. This time I could not get it started I called the 1st company again and they sent a different repairman within a couple of hours. He spent a good hour and a half trying unsuccessfully to get the furnace working. He pulled the cover off the junction box on the outside of the furnace (but regrettably not the cover from the inside box). This repairman told me that it might be the electrical wire running to the furnace but he wouldn't even look at the main electrical panel. Long story short, eventually he announced that the furnace circuit board was bad, that it would cost probably $1,000 to replace it and that I'd be better off buying a new furnace which his company could install on Monday for $2,640. Until then we would not have any heat. This was Friday night of the coldest weekend in decades.
After the repairman left, my wife, wonderful woman that she is, suggested t again call Mike of Air Pro to get a 2nd opinion. I did as she suggested.
That night the temperature in the house went down to 52 degrees, It was so cold our dog stood in front of our one space heater to stay warm. Suffice it to say neither my wife nor I were excited about the prospect of another 2 days without heat or of spending $2,640 for a new furnace or $1,000 to repair the old one.
Around 10:00 the next morning Mike of Air Pro called. He said he'd be there by noon. He arrived around 11:45 and I showed him the furnace. Within 10 minutes of his arrival Mike was pulling the cover off the inside junction box. He looked inside, turned to me and said do you see anything wrong. From about 8 feet away I could see that the wires inside the box were burned. What had happened was that the ground wire connected to the inside junction box had broken and eventually the other two wires shorted out. He connected it. I turned the power on and adjusted the thermostat. The furnace immediately started working and has operated perfectly ever since. That broken ground wire was the sole problem with my furnace.
For this he charged me $155. I would have willingly paid much much more.
As to the1st company to its credit it did refund the $96
Danny has always been great about riding to the rescue on short notice, since we bought our house five years ago. He was recommended by our realtor and he has been great for us. We have him come out to do semi-annual inspections and cleanings of our filters. We like him so much, he'll do our system upgrade in October.
"Thank you for your review. It's reassuring that the technician has followed our business practice, which is to inform and let the client decide the best course of action. We appreciate your business and we are at your service when ever you need us."
"Thank you for your review [member name removed], We strive to provide the highest quality service available. Your comments are appreciated and we look forward to serving all heating and air conditioning needs."
I was a little surprised that I had to seal the ends of the pipes through which he fished to AC connection, but I guess he thought it was the landscaper's job, and they thought it was his - he was very helpful when I called to ask for advice as to what to use.
Good rates.
Will certainly use again.
