Roger Owen is a dishonest businessman and a dangerous employer. The only reason I hired Virginia Moving Solutions was to move a 1300lb safe and a 600lb safe. They gave my wife an estimate of between $2300-2800. I had her call back to verify, with me in the room, that they could move our safes at that price and they verified that they could. On the morning of the move, one of their employees walked in, looked at the safe, and said there was no way to move it with the equipment they had. The biggest dolly they had was rated for $500lb. He told me they just dealt with a similar safe and Roger, the owner, had to rent a special dolly for the job. Even with that I was told that an employee’s hand was nearly “crushed” by the safe. I called Roger to cancel the move, his only explanation for sending his men with a 500lb dolly instead of one that could do the job was, “These are my best guys, we’ve moved 1000lb safes with no trouble but they say they can’t move yours.” as if he was not aware that my safe was 1300lbs when they loaded the truck without the proper equipment. When I told him I was canceling the move he told me he would give me a $500 discount to make up for it. I had to take him up on his offer because this was the only day I had to move and you can’t find movers or moving trucks without notice. The movers were able to move the 600lb safe on the dolly but the dolly malfunctioned causing the lock-out on the rear wheels to fail, trapping one of the mover’s feet. He could have easily broken his foot or worse because Roger sent them with the wrong equipment. When it was time for the bill Roger charged me $3300, $500 over the max estimate, and took $500 of brining the total back down to the maximum estimate it would have cost to move both safes. So, even without the hassle of moving the bigger safe he underestimated the price by the same amount he told me he would discount me for not doing the job I hired him to do. In short, Roger set his employees up for failure. He did not provide them with the equipment they needed to do the job safely and used dishonest business practices to swindle me out of the $500 discount that he agreed to. Do not use this company. They will give you a low-ball estimate to make you think you are getting a good deal and then go back on their word on the day of the move when you have no other options. They’ll charge you whatever they want once the job is done so that you have to go through the process of disputing it on top of all the other responsibilities of moving.
