I am very pleased with the job. I secured 3 estimates for the same job and Exterior Alternatives beat all competition for the same job. Fran's crew is professional, neat and courteous. Fran was on the job everyday and would call me every night to check in. One small problem was fixed the same day. The house looks beautiful and I would recommend Exterior Alternatives. Ask Fran for my address and you can see for yourself. I will use again next year to side my shed and build a deck.

We couldn't have been more pleased with the way everything went, from the estimate, the scheduling, the beautiful way everything was done professionally to our home. Fran kept it simple, helped us select the colors and materials and it was perfect when it was completed, and on time. The price was better than other companies that quoted and superior products to boot. The workers kept everything neat every day and were so nice we would hire this company again.

It went pretty good. They did good work, but they were kind of slow.

I researched vinyl replacement windows fairly extensively and Softlite made the short list.  An inquiry on their website led me eventually to Fran and Exterior Alternatives as a local installer of Softlite.  While some of the estimates I obtained came with a salesman and presentation, Fran's visit was more laid back. She basically asked what I wanted, made some suggestions, then emailed an estimate in a few days. Our job ended up spanning about 4 months (from finalizing the contract). This was  due to several scope changes on our part, several weather delays, vacation (ours), and a missing window that was mistakenly dropped from someones list. 
Fran managed her crews well and was easy to work with on changes and timing.  The crew she used to install the windows obviously knew what they were doing and completed the job in one day (except for one missing window), including tearing out an old 10' wooden bow window and replacing with a site built bay. Fran and her window foreman saved me a more than few dollars on this by convincing me to go with the bay instead of a factory built bow which was 3X the cost. We were very pleased with the completed bay window.
A different crew installed the siding / trim and also exhibited expertise in this area. I had had some fascia and rake boards covered with trim coil by a different contractor a year prior to this job and Frans crew fixed several mistakes that were not part of their job scope.
Her carpenter installed 3 doors which involved removing a garage door and building framing for a double walk door to replace it. The doors also look nice and work as expected.
Overall we are pleased with the work and would use Exterior Alternatives again.

Replaced all windows, installed vinly siding and re-built deck with composite decking material.

Work was done well and follow-up was good.  I would definitely recommend Exterior Alternatives so long as Fran remains in charge.  Also, it was interesting to note that comments overheard from workers suggest they wouldn't plan on making short-cuts because Fran wouldn't approve and would be after them.  Nice to hear.

Overall, the work was excellent.  It was a pleasure working with her. 
At some point within the next few years, I know we will need a new roof.  It is without question, that I will be calling her for an estimate.  She has a number of sub-contractors that work for her which include roofing, siding, painting, carpentry. 

She came out, worked up estimates on both vinyl and hardiplank. I did my research and chose to go with the Hardiplank. As is my way, I made additions, changes along the way and Fran made sure it all got done. They cleaned up each evening and really worked hard! It is still gorgeous!

We used them approximately two weeks ago. We can call them whenever we want, and they are responsive. We are happy with their work. We would also call them to replace our windows and siding.

I went to Angie's List and found this company that had a good rating but with a short list of clients. It was listed as Charles City which is a convenient location across the river from where I live.....I thought this would facilitate the process. It turned out they had a Charles City number but the company had moved miles away to the north. Fran Slaughter, CEO of the company, said they still serviced the town I live in, and, despite the distance, everything went well.

Fran was very professional and the most informative of all the vendors we saw. Although the installation was somewhat difficult, the windows were installed in one day and result is perfect. Fran came early before the installers to help with taking down our blinds. She checked in numerous times during the day and again at the end of day. The installation was very professional and the inside and outside were left spotless. As a gardener, I was particularly happy that no damage was done to the plants surrounding the house. I plan to use this company again next year to install a new windowt treatment in our Florida room.

Fran and Bobby did a great job. Their estimate was very reasonable - they were very punctual and cleaned up after work. The project took much longer than estimated because of paint match issues and weather but they were very responsive to our needs throughout. Very good service.

Exceptionally pleased with the job, but more so with the customer service. I told Fran what my bottom line price was and she gave me four different quotes with four different products (one lower, one right on my price, and two slightly higher), taking the time to explain in detail the differences. She worked with me on making sure I had the "perfect" color, gave me addresses of previous work and hung siding on the dormers for me to match the roof. She communicated throughout the process so that there were no surprises, and contacted me prior to doing anything that might be controversial. I had originally had her do an estimate to do some deteriorating boards. Although I mentioned that we were considering siding, she never tried to sell me up to siding, never even mentioned she did that too. I developed a good trust in Fran because of her style in addressing all options at all times, while respecting my budget. Her crew was awesome, attention to detail and emphasis on clean up. I will continue to use Fran's company for additional house work when I need it.

As a former contractor, I have always been very skeptical about the craftsmanship of others. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of service that was provided by Exterior Alternatives' personnel. Fran Slaughter, the President of the company, is very personable and knowledgeable of the trades. I watched her personnel perform and they proved to be very fast and efficient. The clean-up of debris was done as the improvements were made and was done in an extraordinary manner. I was so pleased with their work, that I would even recommend them to my mother. You can't praise a company any higher than that!
