Dr. Ben Minor is, to my way of thinking, the best vet I've ever had (I'm 75). I've known him for many years (since his early days at Stratford Hills) and we refer to him as "the cat or dog whisperer". He puts his head directly on the side of the dog or cat and listens! He is rather reserved, but there couldn't be anyone more caring or qualified to deal with your pet! Thank you for your wonderful care over the years. I still sing your praises and refer folks to you! Dr. Ben would always tell me how much fluid he got & report how he was doing. He also gave me a special price since we were coming in so frequently. They treated my Cavalier very good on up to the time we decided to put him asleep. They could have continued to drain him & get paid for it, but Dr. Ben help me to decide to let him go to doggy heaven to relieve his suffering. The are good people. The staff helped me tremendously!

Service is excellent but they're expensive. They're fine, they're good. We use them all the time. He was practicing in another Vet hospital and went on his own and we followed him. I think he's very knowledgeable and very caring about animals. The dogs act just like they are everywhere. The dogs know that's the vet and he doesn't like chill and go to the vet. No amenities, nothing that sticks with me or the dog.

It cleared up within days, but he was still having problems. She recommended Dr. Blair, a great eye vet in Carytown. I called the office to get a referral...Dr. Blair only sees new patients who have been referred to him.
Dr. Baldwin is retired now and only see patients every other Saturday. Her schedule is full when she is there. When I asked for the referral, Dr. Minor asked for me to bring my dog in for a second visit before taking him to Dr. Blair. I was not happy that he wanted to see my dog after Dr. Baldwin had already diagnosed and recommended the eye specialist. I felt he was trying to get another office visit out of us.
I have noticed that the prices have gone up and if there are multiple sizes of a product, it appears they have discontinued the smaller less expensive size and kept the larger more expensive products. This may be a normal business move for most new, young vets, but not one I would say is typical of a and quot;customer cost continuous practiceand quot;.
I have been hesitant about continuing with Cardinal after Dr. Baldwin retires completely.

Dr Ben Minor is THE best vet in Richmond. He takes care of my three mastiffs, and has cared for my previous canine kids that have passed on. He has gone above and beyond on many occasions, being available during emergencies and urgent situations. All of my dogs adore him, including my latest rescue mastiff mix that is NOT friendly with new people. Dr. Minor took the time to get to know him, and have him trust him before ever having to treat him! He is always looking for ways to save me money, as meds and health care in general is very expensive for 200lb dogs. He is cost conscious, yet never skimps, and always gives me his honest opinion. I have followed him from another clinic to Cardinal Animal Hospital, and would follow him anywhere he went to have him look after my dogs. He genuinely cares about the animals he treats, and I would recommend him to anyone looking for the best care for their animals.

I found a cat that had been hit by a car. I'm a big-time animal lover, with three cats of my own, but I'm on a very tight budget. So, with sadness, I explained to the vet that I couldn't spend more than $150 trying to save this cat. Dr. Baldwin was very kind to me and to the cat, and said she understood my circumstances (as opposed to another vet who once tried to guilt me into spending $1500 on a pet that was much older and dying of kidney failure). She made the most of the money I had and made me feel comfortable with the task that lay ahead. The stray stayed with me for 10 days, and responded the way Dr. Balduin had predicted. The vet's assistant even called me once to ask how things were going. Happy ending: The lost cat was re-united with its owner. He said the vet had even gotten the age right!

The veterinarian was very nice. It seemed she was very good with animals and had a genuine comforting feeling about her. I also like the fact that they send reminder cards to remind you of the date of the pet's next or upcoming appointment. They also send you cards to let you know if the date is really soon or even passed.

I use Dr. Joann Baldwin at Cardinal Animal Hospital. I like that she has a small low key office. Her staff is very responsive and they can usually get me in right away. They also have Saturday hours if you need them and they are very close by to my house. In the end, the total bill included two shots, flea medicine, heart worm medicine, and the office visit. I think that her rates are competitive. Overall, I wouldn't give her the top rating because she isn't the biggest people person, but she is great with my pet.
