On a scale of 1-10, American Floors earned a 2. Here were the positives: 1. Prompt on the quote 2. The crew worked hard (when they were able). Negatives: 1. Timeline was constantly moved back. 2. Costs weren't completely honest (he added costs as he went). 3. Ordered too much product (that I paid for). 4. Project end was 5 weeks AFTER it should've - so we had to get a hotel room for a period of time (more cost to us). 6. He overcharged and ultimately would not refund the full amount. 7. He dodged phone calls constantly after project completed. 8. Ultimately no integrity to make good on a business contract that he and I both signed).

A section of flooring at the entrance door leading to a rear deck had water damage due to poor weatherstripping on the door.  We contacted American Floors (and two other providers) for estimates for repair and refinishing.  We settled on American Floors and agreed on a date for them to begin.
Morris and his assistant showed up on time and completed the repair in a timely and workmanlike manner.  As they began the tear-out of the damaged flooring they discovered the damage was more extensive then originally thought, the subflooring being rotted beneath the water damage.  With damaged subfloor and hardwood flooring replaced, the floor was sanded and stained, and, subsequently, finished with three coats of polyurethane and a similar workmanlike manner.  The stain was an excellent match to the rest of the floor outside of the foyer.
Morris took care to put up a plastic curtain to keep down dust infiltration into the house, and did a thorough cleaning job when the sanding was done.
His work was well done and very reasonably priced.  We would use him again should the need arise.

Morris was very nice, and I have enjoyed the hardwood. This work was done several years ago , so maybe things would be different now, but this was our experience.
The quality of work and how it was done left a lot to be desired.
His workers did not pick up their tools each night, I had a small child in the house so we had to go around picking everything up. They smoked in our house without our permission, we do not smoke. They left staples in the driveway puncturing the tire of another contracter. The project went longer than originally discussed and we had to spend an extra night in a hotel.
They did not replace all the edging trim.
They bumped the toilet when refinishing the wood in the downstairs bathroom causing a leak. Instead of removing and replacing the wet wood they just varnished it. Little black spots later appeared.
When we pointed out irregularities and what we saw as flaws in the work, Morris told us what products we could buy to correct the issues. He did not offer to do it .
The price was $500 dollars cheaper than the big local company but having lived with the floors all these years I should have spent the extra.
