Very well. Both rugs were pet stained and needed to be machine washed. Scott Co washed and deodorized both rugs. The washing process cleaned and restored both nicely. Neither rug (both where Oriental reproductions) showed any evidence of fading or running color. At this writing, I'm still waiting for the deodorizing fluid scent to fade to determine how successful urine odor treatment is. Typically, enzymatic cleaners take some time to complete their work and some post-treatment odor is expected. 
Scott Company is the only Norfolk area business having rug washing machines and a drying house. The Scott process scrubs the entire rug using brushes and cleaning solution spray. The rug nap and backing are much more thoroughly washed and and rinsed than is possible on a home floor. The rug is hung to dry in a drying tower. The process Scott used required two passes, one to clean and a second to apply the deodorizing treatment before drying. Scott returns the rug about 1 week after pick up. During this week, I treated the padding with enzymatic cleaner.
Shop cleaning of rugs in this manner is much more expensive than on site cleaning. Approximate cost is $1.50 per square foot to clean and $0.75 per square foot to deodorize. The 6x10 pad was an additional $100 and a similar amount was spent to re-glue the fringe and apply a glue patch to a box knife cut. Pick up and delivery of my rugs was an additional $40. Scott Company's process is to pick up the rugs on the first day. Next day, they will perform a detailed inspection of the rug, recommend the work to be performed, give an estimate, and request authorization to proceed. The washing and drying process takes about 4 days.
