Punctual, did a great job. Price was very reasonable. Roscoe is a joyful person and a master at his craft but like most artist, a bit messy. I spent quite a bit of time cleaning up drywall dust and scraping blobs of plaster off the floor. make sure he drapes the area and covers the floor before work start. Overall very pleased.

Roscoe is a very nice gentleman.  I found him through Angie's List and his reviews were great.  He came over and gave me a verbal estimate on filling numerous cracks in the walls of our 75 year old home in the Talbot Park neighborhood of Norfolk.  He did a great job plastering all of the cracks and there were quite a few.  We then asked him if he painted and he said yes so we asked him to paint 2 ceilings in bedrooms and the areas he had plastered in the ceilings of the living room and dining room and also to paint a stairwell and hallway.  HIs prices were very fair and reasonable and he was fairly good at sticking to the scheduled time he gave us..  He did cancel and reschedule once and he was late every time he did come.  After he finished painting and we looked at his work, I could not recommend him to do another paint job.  He got ceiling paint on many of our walls and wall paint on most of the woodwork.  Also, we have had to go back and cut in again on both the stairwell and hallway. We now have to get another painter out to paint  the ceiling in my stairwell and hallway as there is blue paint all along the edges of the ceiling.  I know you get what you pay for and his prices were very cheap but I wish we had never gotten him to paint as it has been a huge pain fixing all of the mistakes he made.  Do not let him paint in your home but let him plaster as he is very good at that.  Also, expect him to take a longer time than necessary as he talked on his cell phone for approximately 50% of the time he was here.  I know I did not get overcharged on time but it was an inconvenience having to stick around the house while he chatted away on the phone.  I have my doubts all that phone time was business.  I found this unprofessional to say the least.

Roscoe performed an outstanding job!! The two pop-corn ceiling repairs blended in with the rest of the ceiling perfectly. Rarely do you find people like Mr. James who takes pride in his work and has a superb work ethic. He will remain my and quot;go toand quot; plaster repairman!

My daughter was trying to handle this situation by herself, it was a catastrophe with her Living room ceiling falling in and the roof collapsing. Her spouse was deployed and she works full time with an 8 y/o daughter to run back and forth to school. I met Roscoe originally to help set up the contract but from there it was always by phone, since I travel with my work, or his direct contact with my daughter. He was wonderful! I couldn't have left my daughter's situation with anyone that made me feel more comfortable. He was like a comforting Father.
He came immediately to assess situation. He gave a realistic plan of start, which was only 1 day out from the weekend and then he carried out the work with the utmost of consideration and need to complete the job timely. He and his men would stay sometimes till 10 at night to try to complete a room. He even made friends with the family dog and let him out routinely while my daughter was at work. The finished product matched perfectly!
To show his compassion and caring (this was just not a job to him), he even played piano with my Granddaughter and gave verbal comfort to my daughter when she had a bad day. He was just like family! :)
At the end my granddaughter made him a bracelet and he checks with my daughter to make sure all is still OK. My granddaughter says, and quot;I need to mess up my walls so Roscoe can come backand quot;. Can't have any greater testimony than that--Good pricing, Very trustworthy, Great work and very Family Friendly.

Our experience with Roscoe was fabulous. He was friendly, fun and professional. He did the job exactly as he promised, finishing with a gorgeous swirl design in our dining room. We had previous contractors give us estimates up to $2,000. Roscoe did an outstanding job at a great price. We highly recommend him and would definitely hire him again. Also, we discovered him on Angie's List and are so glad we did!

I contacted Roscoe James about water damage to the drywall in my kitchen as well as an upstairs bedroom in my home. We set a date for Mr. James to come give me an estimate for the damage. Mr. James showed up on that date, gave me a very fair estimate and I scheduled for Mr. James to come by about a week later to do the work.
The damage was not that bad and Mr. James quoted that it would be fixed and plastered in a night. Mr. James showed up when he said, did the job he quoted me for and I could not have asked for better service. The ceiling in my kitchen and drywall in my guest bedroom looks great. Mr. James also made sure that the area around the work was as it was prior to his arrival.

We needed one of our bathrooms drywalled and since it was the bathroom wanted it done properly!
Made a HUGE mess of our living room, pulled up across our grass without asking leaving huge track marks on the grass, his helper made a huge mess of the side of our house cleaning all there buckets, they threw away all the scraps and mess in our recycling bin, which we had to empty and re-sort.
The drywall itself was not great, he assured us when it was painted that it would be fine. He put a 3 inch seam right smack bang half way up the wall and tried to fix huge errors with mud. We have since had help from a REAL professional on another project and he is astounded at the errors that he made!
We have now realized that we overpaid too. He bragged about being a good Christian man helping us out, we feel used and abused.
It even took him 3 weeks to complete the task because and quot;he was out of townand quot;!! We saw his big purple truck and quot;in townand quot;!!
They say a bad smell travels fast..... well phew what a stink!

Mr. James was the only repairman that I contacted who called me back and promptly provided me with an estimate. He did good work quickly and with respect of my home. He repaired our 20ft ceiling in our family room. There was
extensive water damage and the plaster had fallen down. He set up
scaffolding in our living room, repaired the plaster and returned the
next day to paint the newly applied plaster. He even worked on a Sunday
so that the job could be finished in time for the super bowl.
Enjoyable man and a wonderful assistant.

We were finishing an unfinished attic into a master suite. We hired Roscoe to hang and finish the drywall. I intended to prime and paint myself to save money.
I had read all the reviews on Angie's List and thought I knew what I was up for. Roscoe is one of the nicest people I've met, and a little informal (but very respectful). I wish the work lived up to that standard. I thought everything was fine until I started painting.
I expected some amount of surface irregularity since my house is 70 years old. What I found during painting was a lot of scratches/gouges in the drywall, and some waviness on new walls that should have been pretty true. Long story short, I don't feel like he did me any favors. Of all the contractors that have been on the job, this is one I absolutely will not have back to do any more work. In fact, I am about to hire another drywall finisher to fix an issue in our bathroom.
He didn't clean up after himself and left more of a mess downstairs than I expected. Overall, very disappointed.

Mr. James did not adequately cover or prep the areas he was working, resulting in excessive clean up on my part. He also disrespected our home by not showing consideration to our house while making many messes and causing damage during his work. His quality was low for detail work, and not what I expected for someone doing this for as long as he has. I have been required to go back and attempt to fix many of the areas he worked due to low quality in the vicinity of seams and corners/windors, doors etc.
During the final day of work Mr. James came unprepared and only brought 2 drop clothes. My father and I were preparing to finish installing the hardwood floors and had layed out the tar paper and marked the joist location on the floor to work around Mr. James as he and his assistant worked. Mr. James began to rush, made a complete mess of the tar paper by not using drop clothes and was doing low quality/rushed work for what he was doing, I eventually asked him to stop all work and leave our home as I had finally grow tired of him making more problems for me than what he was fixing. He damaged my new hardwood floors which will require me to replace a board in the middle of my entrance way and left several small dents in my new refrigerator because he jumped around in his scaffolding, vice taking the time to get down and move it to avoid damage to the floor, appliances, etc.
I would not recommend him if you are doing any work that is partially finished, is in a completed/lived in home, or requires detail work. His work practices are suited for new construction or complete renovations.
Mr. James was very nice and seemed very highly rated on Angie's list, but his quality of work and care for the customers home did not match what I read and thought before I hired him and felt it important to ensure others knew beforehand.

There was a real mess of dust all over the house. He did along with his co worker do cleanup but the painting was very sloppy and for the money I paid it wasn't worth it. Very disappointed. I learned a very valuable lesson and that is you can't depend on Angie's list for a good referal.

Mr. Roscoe James reponded quickly to come over, look at the building and gave an estimate on the spot. I called a few days later to schedule the job and he was able to start immediately as I needed it done ASAP. He completed the job in three days. He did an excellent job and was very professional from beginning to end. He and his helper both were very hard workers and nice, honest people. The plastering turned out great and it doesn't even look like the same building. I plan on calling him back in the future to do all my plastering/drywall work. I highly recommend him to anyone needing this type of work done. He even patched a couple places in the ceiling. Covered all counters, appliances and carpet and cleaned up very well when finished.

Mr. Roscoe sheet rocked our ceiling, fixed a hole in the wall, filled in nail holes, and painted the bedroom ceiling, walls and trim. He did an amazing job. However, I still wouldn't hire him again. When I initially called him he made it sound like he could do all the work in one day because he had quick drying mud. When I called later on that day he stated that he had only mudded the ceiling and walls and that it would need a couple days to dry. Also, he told my husband it was going to be $375 for the paint and the drywall. What he meant, but didn't clarify, was that it was $375 for the drywall plus $375 for the paint. Which to be fair, seems to be reasonable. It just frustrated us that he wasn't clear in his estimate and it wasn't until he came back days later to finish that I realized it was going to cost twice what I thought. I came home about 2 hours before he and another male were done with the painting. I understand that drywall is dirty but it didn't seem like any precautions were made to contain the dust because there was a layer of dust on everything throughout the entire two story house. There was also a ton of dust piled on the floor that I had to clean. As I was cleaning I also noticed that someone had opened and drank 3/4 of my fresh squeezed orange juice and turned my TV on to the SyFy channel (which I have NEVER watched). So overall amazing work but not worth the cleaning, going through my refrigerator, and frustration and it being double what I thought it was going to cost.

From start to finish Roscoe James was a true and honest professional. He was the only person from the list of plasterers that quickly responded to our call for an estimate. He came out the same day we called and provided us with a fair price on the spot. When we called to schedule the job with his company he made arrangements so that he could do the work on a Saturday. He called the morning of the job to check in and arrived on time. He brought a professional helper with him. They both took the necessary steps to ensure the areas remained clean while they completed the work (drop clothes put down, moved needed furniture). The work he completed was immaculate- He did not and quot;cut cornersand quot; but did a very thorough job. My husband and I were very pleased with this job and will continue to use him for any other plasterwork we may have in the future. If you have a plaster job- Call Roscoe- you will not be disappointed!

Had to call him back for some touch up, came right out and got the work done, even came back again and patched something outside the scope of what he was hired to do and would not take any payment for it.

Roscoe was very friendly and professional. Arrived promptly and I was able to have him fix the closet for me, even though that wasn't in the original estimate. Tarps were put down but since it was a ceiling it still made a mess, however, they did there best to clean up. The final work looked great, better than new!

Mr. James was very prompt coming out to give us an estimate. Once we called him to say that we wanted him to do the job, he was ready to come out the same week. While he was willing to move furniture, we moved most of it ourselves. He came one one day to fix all of the problems. Then, because he recommended letting everything set to dry, he came back the next week to smooth the walls. Because he knew that we had a painter lined up, Mr. James made sure that he came on the scheduled date, even though it meant that he had to come after he finished a job that he had in progress. He stayed late that day to get the job done. When I asked the painter to rate the drywall job (I figured the painter would know more than I would), he said it was a very good job.

Immediately returned my call and offered to stop by my daughter's house that night. He arrived when he said he would and did an excellent job of communicating with my daughter and me throughout the job. He repaired the plaster ceiling - it looks as good as before it collapsed. He even waited for me to arrive to pay him - without charging for the time.

I have already called him back for estimates on other jobs. Mr. James is honest and fair with regard to pricing and an excellent people person. I will definitely keep him on my short list of trustworthy, reliable contractors.
