NORFOLK SPCA

Horrible experience at Norfolk SPCA Adoption Center & Veterinary Clinics would never recommend to anyone! Brought my 9mo kitten to them 1/18/21 to get neutered. Dropped him off at 8am, came to pick him up at 2:30, everything is fine. Once home, he realizes he has a huge cone around his neck and starts FREAKING OUT... running, around, jumping, trying to get the cone off. We grabbed him and put him in the bathroom to try and calm him down, and we notice he’s bleeding from the incision, and he’s not calming down at all almost getting worse trying to get the cone off, choking himself. I called the SPCA 7 times before somebody answered! Julie picked up and i explained to her the situation, and she essentially told me there was nothing they could do. At this point, Oliver has puddles of blood on the floor, all over the bathroom, and my boyfriend who was trying to calm him down and he was not stopping anytime soon. We ended up having to cut the collar off of him because he wouldn’t stop, he was gagging and choking himself. I asked her again to please help and she put me on hold and came back and her response was to put him in a small, dark room and to call back tomorrow... I was infuriated!!!! I called my normal vet, who I should’ve just taken him to in the first place, and they told me to bring him up immediately they would squeeze him in because Oliver needed to be looked at right then! Thank god for beach pet hospital! I cannot believe the lack of professionalism and customer service of the Norfolk SPCA! How can you refuse service to a kitten you just operated on?!?! DO NOT GO HERE!

Great. My Ghent area Veterinarian wouldn't submit a prescription to a reputable mail order company. In a bind, I took my cat and dog to the S.P.C.A.. I was not expecting the same atmosphere as a private Vets office. I was desperate for help for my pets. They got a thorough exam, shots and prescriptions. Doctor Nelson and her assistant were so good to my animals. The assistant's name began with a and quot;Dand quot; i believe. What would have cost approx $400 with my former vet gave me a 50% savings. Next, I take my other cat in for surgery. I'll keep you posted.

By the way, everything has a down side. Some cleaning to remove the odor of urine would be nice.

When we entered the building we saw that it was dilapidated, old, and dirty. The staff member we spoke too was just short of surly, and not forthcoming with information. We were allowed to visit the cat section and saw one kitten that we might be interested in. We asked the receptionist if we could hold the kitten to see if it was what we were looking for. We were told that we would have to complete a packet of papers before we could interact with the kitten. We did not feel that it was necessary to do that just to hold the animal. While we were in the cat area there was a woman who appeared to be cleaning cages who was surly to us when we asked her a question. She then returned to what she was doing; however we heard her yelling at a cage of kittens and swatting at their cage with her cleaning rag. Then she sprayed them with whatever cleaner she was using. That was enough for us to know that we did not want to do business with this facility and we left.
