Fantastic! My floors were in really rough condition before-hand. The entire third floor had carpet over it (we removed that ourselves prior to work being done), and the floors were a mess. They were stained several different colors, scuffed up, and had nail holes from the carpeting. The floors downstairs had numerous discolorations and scuffs as well. Jim McQuitty and team did a phenomenal job refinishing all of the floors and steps on the staircases. They look brand new. It's really an amazing difference.
Everyone was so friendly and professional and they did such a great job accommodating my schedule. It only took them 4 days to refinish each of the first, second, and third floor floors, but I had to have the work spread out over the course of almost two months due to my crazy work and personal schedule, and they were amazingly flexible and willing to work with me on the scheduling. Cat, who works in the main office, was fantastic and very responsive to my numerous questions and requests. Overall, I'm so impressed with this company and can't believe what an amazing job they did. I think the value of my house has increased significantly due to the work they did on my floors. I'm so happy with how everything turned out.

Very BAD workmanship this is what this company does and i had to stay behind them constantly. I was putting dimes in the cracks they left between the boards showing them what they needed to fix. Now the job is done and i can even put QUARTERS in some cracks where the boards are just not put together right. I am not even complaining about the few H-joints and stairsteps/lighting bolts found just the simple putting boards together. In one place i can see down to the plywood. JUST VERY UNHAPPY!!
I did call with no response!!

"Member, Thank you for your feedback, it is unfortunate the member took to Angie’s List with their complaints instead of contacting us. We pride ourselves on making sure every customer is fully satisfied and without us being aware of any issues, it makes it impossible to correct. We still have not heard from the member at all. Please read our other reports to gauge a more accurate description of our company."

The workmanship on the job was OK. There were a few skipping the sanding and in the final coating. The communication from the owner and the "front office" was poor.
The job was supposed to start on a Tuesday. We were supposed to have been given a call from the front office on Monday night to confirm the start time. Tuesday morning comes and we are waiting for the crew to show up so that we could go over details and make sure that we were all on the same page. I finally call the front office and are informed that the crew was behind on another job and they would not be here until the following day to start. Needless to day, that was causing problems across the board, that pushed the completion date and also left the arrangements that we had made for other accomodations in disarray. I went to the office in person and was told by Mr. Mcquitty that he was sorry and that "these things happen". I was not amused.
The crew finally showed up at 8:30 am on Wednesday and began the job. The crew leader (Frank) and I settled on the color for the floor staining and I showed them where there were wires to the alarm system coming up through the floor. This was so that they would be aware of these wires when they sanded. We chatted about a few of the other details and left.
The sanding and the staining went fairly smoothly and the crew did a good job of cleaning up behind themselves. The dust residue was minimal although we took our own precautions. The first coat of polyurethane was also applied and left to dry. We were able to take a look at the floors from the doorway when we went to secure and lock the house at the end of the night. From what we could see it was acceptable. The following day, the poly was lightly sanded and the second coat of polyurethane was applied and left to dry. On the final day (Friday) Mr. McQuitty came in and put down the threshholds in the doorways.
We came in Friday night and inspected the job. We noted that there a few places that were not sanded well the second time. To be fair we did not complain to McQuitty about that at the time. Nor did we immediatly call about the alarm system wiring that was cut during the process and not disclosed to us.
We thought that he would have left an invoice for us for the final payment (we put down half of the estimate price) but all that was taped to the door Friday was the Angie's List form. We have been working hard to get the base and shoe moulding done and the rooms finished for the holidays. Mr. McQuitty has not contacted us directly but through the front office for the payment of the balance even though I have left several messages about the alarm wires that damaged.
Overall we are Ok with the job but very unhappy about the communication.

"Member, Thanks for your report. We apologize if you feel there was a breakdown of communication. We were surprised to see the member leaving feedback since after numerous attempts we have gotten no responses from the member or any payments. An email with the ending invoice attached was sent to your wife's email on December 7th, to which we received no response. Numerous messages were left on the voice mail for the phone number provided to us, no response was received from those as well. I have repeatedly called and left messages concerning the wire so that we can adjust the bill accordingly and repeatedly received no response. Please check our other reviews to gain an accurate description of our company."

McQuitty Floors did an outstanding job on refinishing my hardwood floors. I called for an estimate and Mr McQuitty himself came out the next day to do the measuring and the estimate. He is extremely nice and professional and has been refinishing floors since before I was born. He offered me a Angie's List discount without me having to ask him for it. His office manager, Cat, emailed me a detailed and extremely fairly priced quote the next day and was very helpful in scheduling a time that was convenient to do the work. The crew showed on time and were very polite and professional. They finished exactly when they said they would (3 days for my 4 room first floor). The floors look amazing. Before. they were quite worn and dull and had quite a few stains. Now they look brand new. I could not be more impressed with this company. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

They were very good. McQuitty supervises the work. They know what they are doing. Once, I saw the workers had rushed a bit and left a spot a little rough, but McQuitty made sure that the workers cleaned the area and worked on it until I was satisfied.

Working with Jim McQuitty was extremely easy. The business office handled all of the necessary details and Jim gave a very competitive estimate. He was very professional and when we needed to move the job up to a different weekend. The office had no problem rescheduling. He made it possible for us to be out of the house for the refinishing for a very short time.
There were a couple touch ups that needed to be done once the job was finished. Jim worked with us to get them finished very quickly.

I met with the owner and we had good service and they returned calls. They had neat workers and when the hardwoods were installed they did it in a timely manner.

Mr. Mcquitty came out to do the estimate and he was on time. I received the estimate 2-3 days later. We scheduled the appointment for April 3-5 because Mr. McQuitty said it would take 3 days. I got a call on April 2, 2012 asking if they could come that day. I was not able to accommodate that request because I work. On the morning of April 3 I realized that we did not know the arrival time so I called the office and was informed that they would be arriving that afternoon and if anything changed they would call. They did not show up or call. I left a message that the job would need to be rescheduled because I could not take off an extra day. I received a call in the morning of April 4ththat they were on the way and that the job could be completed in 2 days. When Frank arrived he informed me that they needed to use a 220volt outlet for the sander. He suggested the dryer outlet (mine is in the garage) and I informed him that I was washing a load that contained the outfit I was going to wear that day...he said, "well, you want your floor done, dontcha?" . After a slightly testy exchange back and forth I agreed to stop my load and let him use the outlet. I explained that if I had been informed when I scheduled the appointment I would not have been doing laundry. That's when he made the aforementioned comment. His attitude improved as the day went on and they sanded and stained by midday. They left and came back that afternoon and applied the 1st coat of polyurethane. After checking their work it was noted that they removed the finish on some installed cabinetry in about 5 small areas. It was decided that the fix would be the installation of some stained and finished quarter round to hide the areas. The quarter round does not match the floor stain exactly but it is close enough to not be an eyesore and there is a seam that could have been matched better. The floor itself looks good and the sanding was good.

Mr. McQuitty has been doing this kind of work for 30 years. He is a bit difficult to understand at times, but his office manager Lee helps relay messages. The work was well done. After he was paid, I noticed a couple of small problems. They came out and made it right immediately, no hassle at all. That is what impressed me....after I had already paid!

I spent around $6000 on that service. It was as I expected as far as being good. They did a beautiful job on the floors. There were some places where the floor rejoined to a bedroom that wasn’t necessarily finished exactly as it should have been. The price was very good. There were some delays because the final week of it was when the hurricane hit, so it got a little delayed there. I would use them again, but I would look at other companies as well.

Very well. Mr. McQuitty is very knowledgeable, having been in the floor refinishing business for most of his life. His crew was friendly, courteous, and efficient. The whole job took four days. The process included sanding, applying a sealant and two coats of oil based urethane. The floor is approximately 60 years old and much of the old finish had been badly worn with ground in dirt due to years of foot traffic. It now looks great.

It was a four-day job, and they were very good. McQuitty actually came out to do the estimate. He was prompt, came right in and did a quick estimate. He could come back the next week, which is when I needed them to do the work, and he said that he would have a team out here to get it done. The team came out and did a great job. The floors look wonderful. There was nothing that I did not like about them. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

He was wonderful and I couldn't ask for anything better. It turned out beautifully. I live 4 hours away and he was very flexible in meeting me. We talked long distance and I got lots of feedback and updates. When I had questions he was very, very responsive to my questions. I would recommend the company totally. My husband has seen the house and I have not. He said it looked very good and I have seen pictures. They told me when they would be able to start and they started that day. They kept me up to date as they were working along. They were finished when they said they would be and it looks very good. I would absolutely use them again.

He did an excellent job and I was completely satisfied with his work. I spent $12000, but I got what I paid for. He just did a quality job. The workers were conscientious. I was really pleased with the outcome and they are still looking really good. He has also done a lot of work in our neighborhood.

Jim McQuitty himself came to give us our estimate, and impressed us with his knowledge and professionalism. This man has been doing his job for many decades and knows it well. He instantly recognized that our floors were quartersawn oak and would need the same to match. All work was done in an extremely timely manner, despite a number of other projects going on in the same area at the same time. Workers were quick and thorough, and the end result is nearly indistinguishable from the rest of the floors in the house. Highly recommend.

DO NOT HIRE JIM MCQUIITY TO REFURBISH YOUR HARDWOOD FLOORS! Very very unprofessional. Quoted 5 days for the job, and then took three weeks to complete. Worked every third day on average and only then after scolding and hassling. When they DID work, they arrived late, left early, and did shoddy work. They cut holes in the floor for repair, then left them, skipping work for three days. They had to repeat steps in repair that they got wrong the first time. They left staples in the floor and sanded right over them. They left paint on the floor and varnished over it. They did a poor job of matching new wood to old. They left scoring marks from a saw on our floors. Only excuses as to why work was done so poorly, and no accountability as to who left saw marks or paint in. Neighbors reported seeing them outside taking half-hour breaks, then complaining about who would have to work that day. They never returned phone calls. Terrible in every way imaginable.

I think that our floors look beautiful and their work was exceptional. They didn't show up on time a lot of the times, however the work that they did was great. The people were very knowledgeable to have around to do the job. He did a good job of securing the other rooms from sawdust and dust from sanding. I thanked him for the job that he did and I was very pleased with him.

The floorboards were installed properly and there are no blemishes or problem areas. He also did a good job of weather sealing the floor boards. The area was left clean afterwards.
