I have struggled whether to review Joel and Holly. In general, they are likely nice people. However, they oversold their abilities and I paid for it dearly. Bottom line is it was a hellacious two week process whereby they were overmatched by the project, like trying to build a house with wood and a glue stick. I basically had to hover, had to learn paving techniques myself, and designed much of my own yard. Their main deficiencies were a) poor project planning and b) refusal to adjust. I ultimately had to fire them before the job was completed, it was that frustrating. The comment they made - of many - that has stuck with me is, and quot;Grading the job wasn't in the contract.and quot; I'm now left with a hump in my yard that gathers water like a bathtub and floods my shed - though I warned them multiple times. This after they put pavers in crooked, argued amongst themselves routinely, and just were generally overwhelmed. If I put pictures up of how they 'grouted' the bricks, you'd think a toddler did it. So, if you want someone to plant a bush, consider these guys. Otherwise, stay away. (PS: I sent them a note prior to this post, offering 'em chance to come fix up a few things. Ignored it.)

"We as professional people and have a lot of care in our work....this customer was the most undecided of what he wanted....in fact we heard thru various neighbors also fired several other contractors. We did exactly what he asked for and also had to redo what he contracted us to do twice....he did fire us...which was all about the fact he cut in half the original bid...and used us for setting it up for him...so he could finish.......now ask me we would work for him....NO....we always do a great job and back up our product.....after he fired us...he had the nerve to call us back to help him....every contractor he hired ...he sued them to get something cheaper or free......we did exactly what we were contracted for and then some...."

Joe and partner came to my property. They were very nice at first. They put down five of the six railroad ties. They did not bring enough dirt to fill the holes. He said he would come back later to finish the job. Joe was paid upfront and he has not come back to finish the job. I have called three or four times, but Joe told me not to call back.

"We did exactly what we were hired for.....he paid us for what we installed in fact we gave him 300.00 worth of materials at no charge for his planter box...cut down trees etc....it saddens me to see customers that do write ups like this....due to the fact we r not giving them more after we already gave them more....."

Transformed our drab home builder supplied basic landscaping into a well thought out, integrated and beautiful design. They are passionate about their designs, hardworking, friendly and enthusiastic about their work. Homeowner assisted with the project in order to learn from these two very knowledgeable people!

The Dream Designs team was extremely punctual, knowledgeable, and creative. They arrived when they said they would and remained in constant communication if weather was an obstacle. I never had to wonder if they would show as I have with other landscapers. I already have plans to use them again in the future and would recommend them for any landscaping project, especially if you want to create something out of nothing. You can count on them to be dependable and to produce a beautiful result. In addition, they are personable, cheerful and thoughtful each and every day; my 3 and 5-year-old even loved them and ask when they will return again. I think that says it all!

Revamped flagstone garden path. Pruned trees and bushes. Planted flowers and bushes and mulched the entire area.
The final result is wonderful. The garden path exceeded my expectations. Their ideas for improvement were excellent. Wish I had the wherewithal to provide pictures.
Their lower marks for responsiveness and punctuality were partly due to the weather (we had a lot of rain) which put them behind schedule with me and perhaps other clients. This wasn't a huge problem for me since I had no particular deadline in mind.....I was more concerned with quality than speed.
I plan to use their services again.

I have used Dream Designs on more than one occasion. While you might not believe it at first sight, these guys are visionaries and really know their stuff. They took a back yard that was always flooding and completely leveled it out, re-sodded, added french drains, removed stumps, filled holes, and ensured that it never flooded again. That's a miracle in Norfolk! They have also done general yard maintenance for me including cutting and edging grass and maintaining bushes and trees. They are fairly priced and are good at estimating the time it will take to complete a project.

On price for the water feature, we felt they were outstanding! On the landscaping, we felt that we were more and quot;nickel and dimedand quot; than on the water feature renovation. However, overall we would rate them a and quot;Band quot; on price and overall experience, and would definitely use them again. Joel is a very creative designer who is meticulous and wants everything just so - a great combination when it comes to landscape design!

Holly and Joel have provided excellent landscaping services (and advice) for us over the past several years. They are responsive to phone calls and emails, prompt in showing up for appointments, fair and reasonable in making estimates (which they stick to), and very professional in their work. One of the best parts about doing business with them is that they are extremely easy to work with, friendly, easy going and very flexible, always focused on what the customer wants.
