TIPS: For future jobs, I may remove any preexisting shelving myself, patch the holes then paint the area. It is much more time consuming to paint walls or over spackle with the new shelving in place (this only applied to the master closet). Also, the cabinets and toy storage came with less shelving inserts than I expected which is something I never thought to ask about. Bill ordered me new shelf inserts at about $10/sqft and delivered them when he came back to install the damaged parts.
The only point where I gave Closet Concepts a "B" was responsiveness. While Bill answered ALL emails and calls promptly, I would have preferred receive a confirmation call the day before service.
Overall, everything was excellent and Bill was professional, responsive and offered a quality product at a fair price.
Certainly will be using Bill again in the future!
- It went perfectly:
- Total cost was well below other estimates.
- Bill was very professional in all aspects of the service.
- Quality product was installed on time and on budget.
- Bill listens to you and gives you what you want. Bill will give you professional advise on your plan without trying to sell you additional enhancements that you probably don't need.
- He is not done until you are completely satisfied with the product and installation.
- We highly recommend Closet Concepts, Norfolk, VA.
I also didn't appreciate Mr. Baker's lack of professionalism around my house. The garage door was open while his associate was removing old closet parts. Mr. Baker arrived later and just walked in my garage and into my house! I have a front door with a door bell. Then his associate left for lunch and he followed shortly after and left my garage door open, front door unlocked, and never even let me know he was leaving. He did this on the final day of install too. He was done and just left the house. Didn't even say anything, or ask me to look at the finished product. He said he couldn't find me. Well, I was upstairs with my child. I don't think he looked or called. I had to end up calling him to ask what the deal was. I don't think someone who takes pride in their work just slips out of your house when they're done.
Closet Concepts charges a high price for mediocre work and finished products.
"First, I must apologize because this installation did not go as smoothly as I would have liked. I would like to address the issues listed. The walls were rough at first. We always fill the holes and spackle after demolition, but these walls were particularly bad. The builder had not skimmed the drywall at all, so in some spots the paper came up. Neither I nor the customer realized this was the case initially because you couldn't tell. When they said they were unhappy, I asked what I could do, which was to skim the walls. I came back as soon as I could and skimmed every wall and then came back the following day and sanded them for painting. The customer did paint, which is a not something that we do. Most customers are fine with the holes filled, but I understand in this case that it needed more. As for the shelves not extending to the absolute corner, we generally stay about an inch from the corner, it just looks better. This was illustrated in the drawings and could have been changed if they had specified that they wanted it done differently. I'm going to contact them about the cracked piece and it will be replaced. Our closets carry a lifetime warranty to the purchaser and that would certainly be a warranty issue. The door situation was unfortunate, but occasionally things happen. The doors did arrive in the wrong color and the replacements were damaged in shipping. The correct color undamaged doors were installed. I also am sorry that I didn't ring the bell after work had started. Normally, once the job is started and workers are on the premises, we come and go, in and out many, many times while there. We left the garage open and front door unlocked because we were coming right back to work. I didn't want to leave without checking, but I truly could not find the customer. I assumed she was upstairs with the baby, but didn't want to interrupt if she was putting him to sleep. I did walk up the stairs, but again, I didn't want to make noise. Our prices are competitive and often lower than other closet companies in the area. I also gave them a military discount and upgraded the rods at no charge. All of our materials are top quality, which is why we offer the lifetime warranty. We take closet building seriously, but sometimes situations arise that cause it to take longer than it should, as was the case here. I value every customer and try my best to provide a positive experience from design to installation as well as in service. In the end, all I want to do is make the customer happy."
I looked a a lot of places that built cabinets, but they focused on kitchen and bathroom and were a bit too cookie-cutter and traditional versus the clean look I was seeking. Besides, none of them had the size that I was looking for - 98"W x 19"D x 95"H. I finally found a place in VA Beach, but I couldn't believe how much the guy wanted.
It was pure chance that I discovered Closet Concepts. I stopped Bill when I saw his truck at the post office. I'm sure he thought I was crazy when I ran up to him at the mailbox! I told him what I was looking for and asked if it was something he could do. He came out the next day, took measurements, offered some suggestions as to a better look and fit and a number of colors.
He submitted a quote the next day. It was almost HALF the price of the guy at the beach! (I later found Bill even had a higher grade product.)
He installed on the day he said he would, arriving on time and cleaned up everything when he left. I'm happy to finally have a storage space that multi-tasks like the room that it's in! Definitely a good experience.
I was impressed with how promptly he followed up with schematics and a quote. He provided an installation date about four weeks away (to align with the completion of the garage reconstruction), but was actually able to start earlier so that I could get my garage back functional.
When it came time to install, even though his assistant was ill, he arrived on time each morning to build and install them himself. I know that given his obligations of meeting with customers, providing quotes , building and installing he has a full plate, but nonetheless I found him to be focused, quietly efficient, pleasant and easy to deal with.
The cabinets look awesome. They are very well done and my garage looks the best it ever has.
