CHOCOLLAGE

We tried to find two local bakeries that came well-recommended but alas, both had somehow closed down! Hampton Roads suffers from a serious lack of good privately owned bakeries. Apparently most people are satisfied with those horrible grocery store cakes!! We found mention of Chocollage on the Internet even though they do not have their own website (hint hint) and based on one review, we decided to make the trek from Suffolk to Norfolk. The store is VERY hard to find...the printing on the awning seems to be visible only from a helicopter or plane, not from the street for some reason! The place was very small, it was the afternoon, and they only had one of their locally famous Praline Chocolate cakes left. We snatched it up just as the people behind us were eying it! The cake was out of this world delicious, better than homemade...and my mom makes a great cake. It was nice to see that the owner was on site. She offered us extra services to run something out our way for us if we call in advance. Please open a Chocollage in Downtown Suffolk! Please!! Perhaps get a good bread baker to go in halfsies on a place with you...we need both good bread and good pastry so badly downtown!
