Tidewater Cleaning Services

My husband and I purchased a Living Social coupon for a basic house cleaning from this business. We were hoping to find a reputable local company that we could use on a regular basis, but I?m sorry to say we were extremely disappointed with their work.
First, scheduling was a problem. The cleaning appointment was originally scheduled for the morning of Monday, June 6.  My husband arranged to work at home that day so he could let the cleaners in. The cleaners called and said they wouldn?t be there until noon. They then called to say they had been stopped by the police and wouldn?t be there until Tuesday. Tuesday brought another call to reschedule because of further legal entanglements (details that frankly made us uncomfortable about having these strangers in our house). The cleaners rescheduled for 3 p.m. Friday. We asked my mother-in-law to let them in, since neither of us could leave work that afternoon. They arrived about an hour and a half late, and even called my husband to claim nobody was home -- they clearly hadn?t rung the doorbell, as my mother-in-law was there waiting for them. She had to leave before they finished, so I don?t know how long they stayed.
What we observed upon arriving home Friday evening was not at all what the Tidewater Cleaning website led us to believe would be done. I understand that this was a basic cleaning, not a deep cleaning, and I realize that an initial visit may take more time and not hit every single point. But for the $100 we paid for the coupon -- what would normally be a $200 service -- I expected more.
I have taken the following list of tasks from the website?s description of ?basic cleaning? and noted what was and was not done during the visit to our house:

Living Area, Hallways, Stairs
The carpet was vacuumed, but not around the edges and not on the stairs. No cleaning at all was done under lightweight furniture such as coffee table/hall table/hall bench. Dusting was minimal, if done at all. A bag of trash was left in the hallway, presumably emptied from wastebaskets around the house. The cleaners left a note saying they couldn?t find the large trash can, which is in our garage.
Not done:

• All areas dusted
• Furniture vacuumed
• Baseboards dusted
• Cobwebs removed
• Window sills wiped down
• Spot clean walls
• Wipe switch plates
• Picture frames dusted
• Lamp shades dusted

Kitchen
Counters had been wiped, and floor had been swept and mopped. Sink was clean.
Not done:

• Cabinet fronts wiped
• Outside of appliances wiped
• Small appliances wiped
• Window sills cleaned
• Baseboards dusted or wiped
• Spot wipe walls
• Wash or dust table and chairs
• Clean switch plates
• Dust walls and cobwebs

Bedrooms
Minimal vacuuming and straightening was done, but little else. Dusting, if any, did not include lampshades or picture frames. We did not request changes of linen or the beds made.
Not done:

• Carpet edged
• All areas dusted
• Picture frames dusted
• Mirrors cleaned
• Window sills wiped
• Spot clean walls
• Clean switch plates
• Wipe baseboards
• Lampshades dusted

Bathrooms
This is where the most cleaning was done. The tubs and toilets were cleaned, floors swept/mopped, sinks wiped out. However, walls were not wiped down, and the fixtures had been wiped, but not cleaned thoroughly.
Not done:

• Chrome fixtures
• Wipe baseboards
• Clean switch plates
• Dust walls and remove cobwebs

We e-mailed Tidewater Cleaning and requested that they contact us to resolve the problems. We heard absolutely NOTHING from them in more than a week. We will be pursuing a refund through Living Social.
