The essence of a good mechanic's shop is in the ability to holistically diagnosis the problem and recommend a solution.  It requires mechanics who can comprehensively examine the engine and identify the problem - not just make the most expensive repair first and pray that works.  The goal of an honest mecahnic shop is to provide the customer with an answer to his probllem the first time - not to half do the job so the customer makes multiple visits and pays for multiple repairs. The Omni experience is one of continuing discovery as you return week after week to get another problem resolved - all directly related to the first issue which they failed to adequately diagnose and repair but are happy to charge you thousands.  While they do have a warranty, because they fail to adequately  diagnosis the underlying cause of the first problem to identify the real issues, the warranty is useless as each time it's new work.  The multiple visits are not covered so you end up paying time and time again to get the original issue resolved.  Bottom line the warranty is worthless and the work they do is based on the philosophy of make the most expensive repair first and "hope" it fixes the problem - or the customer is too dumb to notice it didn't.
.
On the first viist, I had the timing belt replaced - a simple repair ($1200).  Finished within a few days of the promised delivery. However within a few hours I noticed that my low oil pressure lamp came on at low RPM.  Something that had not happened before the timing belt replacement.  So I brought it back and they replaced the oil pump ($700) - claiming that it had nothing to do with the timing belt and was not covered by the warranty.  Coincindences happen.  First time I took the vehicle out and warmed up the engine the oil pressure light came on again at low RPM. If the mechanic's test drive was longer than the distance from the repair bay to the parking lot, he would have noticed the light.  Brought it back, now it's' the crankshaft and bearings ($2700) that need to be replaced; or fpr a mere $5700 I can get a new engine with no guarantee that it will fix the low oil pressure problem.  The current diagnosis is that the failing timing belt somehow broke small parts into the system that ate the oil pump and the bearings - a complety different diagnosis than the original.  Naturally their warranty for the prior repair that "fixed my low oil pressure" is useless.  Basically they are saying that the $2000 I already spent to fix the problem that they had diagnosed is worthless but they "hope" to fix the problem for an additional $5700.  The mechanic, who is incapable of conducting a comprehensive diagnosis and inspection and post repair inspection, is slowly replacing the entire engine for me.   Actually you'd be better off taking this vehicle into your local high school auto shop class and letting the students have a wack.    If you want to spend weeks bringing your vehicle in to get the first problem repaired, and let them sell you one more expensive repair after another, and spend thousands because the warranty doesn't apply to the work they've done to solve the problem, then this is the place for you.  My advice is take it to a dealership - at least you know you're getting ripped off upfront.
