Duval Heating and Air was assigned through my home warranty company to diagnose and resolve and issue with my AC unit. The technician, Jim, came out to the house the next day and identified the problem. A new part was needed which they didn't have in store. Jim told me that it would take 3-5 business days to get the part in stock and he'd come back out to install it.
After 5 business days, I called to check the status and was told they were waiting on the part to be delivered and didn't have a time estimate. 5 days later I called and got only voicemail even though I tried to call multiple times per day. I called my home warranty company and they called them twice over the next week and did speak to them but got no information. Finally on 8/26 I tried calling again and only got voicemail. I drove to their office and spoke to the receptionist who informed me that no one was in the office from Duval to discuss the matter.
Luckily I was able to get my case routed to a more reputable company to resolve. Avoid using them, while the technicians may be okay, the front office is dreadful to work with.
Second visit 5/29/13 - Only had a four hour wait window this time but the two folks replaced the drip pan and "glued" yes, glued the cracked PCV piece that was originally causing the leak. When I questioned this method of repair, I was told it would last forever. The techs also provided a "maintenance service" at an additional cost of $49.00 while they were out here to ensure my external unit was working fine and freon levels were correct. Two days later, I notice I can't get the house inside temperature below 80 degrees.
Third visit 6/6/13 - Provided a 6 hour window and the glued piece didn't hold up so the leak is back. This tech replaced the piping from the unit to the P-Trap (about 8"). I mentioned my inside temperature issue so he re-checked the freon levels to find I was 2 pounds of freon low. Two days later, I discover water dripping through my ceiling into my hallway. Water dripping into the emergency drain pan but somehow getting into my attack floor.
Fourth Visit 6/9/13 - Another 5 hour window but it's a Sunday so I'm not missing any work hours. Tech finds the previously replaced 8" section of piping replaced on 6/6/13 to be angled uphill. Water doesn't flow uphill. He also discovered the drip pan drain line connection to be loose which is why water was dripping into my attic floor. While the cover is off the main unit we both notice one inlet vent isn't even attached so I'm pulling in 100 degree unfiltered air from my attic to cool the house. The tech orders a new drain pan assembly (inside the A/C unit). This is back ordered and takes forever to arrive as depicted by the next visit date.
Fifth Visit 7/24/13 with another 5 hour wait window. (Sorry folks but if I were the owner of this company by the fifth visit I would be camping on their doorstep to make it as convenient as possible for the customer.) Anyway, the Drain Pan is installed and to this day all seems to be running well.
Although I only paid the $75.00 American Home Shield warranty fee once, I'm quite certain the company found a way to be paid on each visit. Perhaps this would explain why customer satisfaction isn't a priority with this company. I rated them an "F" on price as it did cost me 20 hours of lost work due to their "wait" window.
Called AHS for AC and DuVal again was the contractor. He got the AC working but damaged the brand new programmable thermostat that had just been installed. His replacement was digital but not programmable like the expensive one I previously had.
Moral of the story...DO NOT USE DUVAL HEATING AIR CONDITIONING AND PLUMBING
I got another quote later that day from a reputable company but the price was $3200 higher with a less efficient water heater and furnace. This company warned us about Duval's poor reviews. I researched this and was a little concerned that the cheapest might not be the best route. When Brian called first thing the next morning I told him I was concerned about the reviews about his company. He explained that this mostly comes from Home warranty issues and promised me that he would do what he said he would do in the proposal. I found him to be professional and didn't feel like I was being fed any BS.
They came Friday morning to install the new equipment. I had told Brian that I needed to prioritize the installation of the tankless water heater. I was out of town that day and found out from my wife that they weren't planning on installing the water heater that day. I called Duval and the decision was made to install a temporary water heater that afternoon/evening and replace it Monday morning with the new tankless system. I appreciated their efforts to fix this lack of communication.
After arriving on time Monday they realized that the Rheem tankless unit didn't come with an important part. The Rheem unit was replaced with a top of the line Rinnai unit which is a top rated product. We got what we were promised and more. I was very pleased with the technicians Wayne and Max. They were very knowledgeable, courteous and professional.
We've had a home warranty with AHS for about 7 years now and have had a few poor experiences but not with Duval. We are very pleased customers!
I've told my warranty company that I will not use DuVall again if AC or heating services are needed. I would not recommend them to anyone. The service and communication were not very professional.
"We do apologize for the inconvenience and we did take note of the tech's performance and he no longer works for the company. We hope you will give us another chance to prove ourselve."
On 22 May received call from DuVal company the plumbing division. Was informed that no one could respond until the morning of 23 May.
The morning of 23 May representative of DuVal arrived at my home. This person did not appear to have any tools. He inspected the water heater and confirmed the leak was in the area of welded adapter for the mounting of the top heater element. He stated the water heater needed to be replace and he needed the $50.00 warranty deductible at that time. I presented him a check for that amount.
At this point he informed me, that the present water heater was not installed properly and additional work would be required to replace the unit. He stated that a new pressure relief overflow would be required and the amount for this would be $75.00. Then he informed me that the top copper pipes would have to be shortened by 4 inches for allow room for the dielectric nipples that are provided with new water heater. The price of this operation would be $175.00. Now additional moneys was up to $250.00.
I stated to the representative, the overflow can be purchased for less than $20.00. I also stated, the copper pipes going into the water heater would have to be removed to remove old heater anyway. He stated that additional $250.00 would still be required and that I probably do not understand the extra labor required. At this point, I informed the representative I worked as a pipefitter to help pay my way through college and that I know that what is involved in replacing the water heater and there is no additional labor involved with the present install and replacement over normal.
The representative switched into used care salesman mode. I then asked him to leave and told him he was not professional.
I asked a friend to help with transport of new water heater from Home Depot. I installed the new water heater within 30 minutes of having the new unit at my house. My cost for new water heater and parts was $274.64. I applied with home warranty company for a buy out.
If the person that DuVal sent to may house is representative of the company, then I would not recommend doing business with this company
This company has some excellent people working for them, but also some really horrible people. They never call to give the customer 30mins notice on their arrival since most of the appointment times was a 6 hour windows. The carpet that was ruined was new and just installed in January and I find it unprofessional that the company does not return any phone calls. I would use someone else, not just because of their lack of professionalism, thoroughness when diagnosising the problem, but because of they do not have any parts that you need and inconvenience you and your time, do not return phone calls, are often rude when asking questions and refusing to send someone out on Saturday since they messed up the first time (regardless if they only do certain A/C calls on Saturdays, this is after their electrician reported that they do work on Saturday).
Does not match the installation of the original (much bigger & drain on opposite side), the foam not replaced, only shop vacuumed, the ducts coming off the unit logged with water, the scrap metal and parts buried to the side in my attic insulation, insulation on my downstairs floor, and water still pouring out the ends of the unit into my ceiling. All parts replaced, but for some reason not preventing the leak. I called the service man, upset that he left my house in disarray with water leaking in my attic. He said the unit just "needs to be replaced". He said he would call the warranty company "now" to request the replacement. I called the warranty company to follow up 30min later. He had not contacted them and so I informed them of the problem. They said the would go through the process of getting them back out there and I was enraged. I explained I had been in a house that was reaching temps of 88 inside for 4 weeks and that it was not healthy for my wife who had just had surgery and my pets. They agreed but said they must "wait" to hear back from Duval... My warranty company then told me, "refuse Duval if we ever assign them to a claim in the future".
Company came back out to my home that same day after I called to complain. Attempted to fix the problem and will do a follow up to complete the work.
Finally, on 3/29/12, we were on the schedule for Tuesday, 4/03/12 for replacement of the part. The tech arrived around 10 am, and was very professional. The entire repair took 2 hours, and we now have cool air again in the house. We then learned from the 2nd tech, that the part arrived from York and was in their warehouse on 3/27/12, and that they have unsuccessfully tried to repair the unit on our house on 3 different occasions prior to 4/03/12. I have been home this entire time, from 3/14/12 thru 4/03/12 on FMLA for the birth of our new son. AND during that time, no one from Duval had come by the house. This after I kept calling on status updates. Fortunately, it cooled off so that we could live in the house without any A/C, but for the future, I will NOT be using this company again because of the lack of communication, and the fact that someone had been lying to the fact that someone had attempted to service the home, when in fact, no one had come by for almost 3 weeks after the initial consult. I will ask our warranty company to allow us to change providers if we are again assigned Duval for service. It's just not worth it! I will comment that the tech that actually did the repair/install was professional and did a good job.
