We had a new dual fuel heat pump installed after our old heat pump started dying. A&E had a much lower price (2/3rds) than the other companies we got quotes from and we dealt directly with the owner, not a dedicated salesperson. We thought the sales commission was a big part of what upped the price elsewhere. We were verbally quoted a price with specific models from the manufacturer we were looking at, and which he is an authorized dealer for, and which we looked up online and were pleased with. When it came time to do the actual contract, the furnace model was different and inferior in features. When I asked about that the owner looked surprised and then said his supplier must have quoted him the wrong model. He got a new quote from his supplier then and there and got us the model he originally sold us on for the same price. The heat pump model was also different but with comparable features, just sized correctly to replace what we had before. I did check that online to make sure. The install was supposed to take 1 full day. At the end of the 1st day and 2 trips to the supply house, the installers realized they needed yet more supplies, so it took the installers a day and a half to get everything hooked up. But then they were obviously scratching their heads when it came time to program the thermostat to turn on and control everything. So, on yet a 3rd day they had a regular service tech come out to figure out what was wrong. Fortunately they did get the heat going the 1st day for us and it was just a matter of scheduling around my work there after. We do appreciate that they recognized there was a need for more knowledgeable help so they didn?t do anything to burn out a control board, or worse. The service tech was puzzled at the installers wiring of the thermostat to the air handler/furnace/heat pump. After rearranging connections and setting dip switches, which he said is different on each model and is not straight forward, even he had to look up in the manual what settings to use, everything started up and is running. The installers did make an effort to clean up after themselves, but I did have go behind them to get all the mess cleaned up. We have had other contractors do a much better job in that department. We are disappointed that the noise from the furnace is not a quiet as we were made to believe it would be, and we really did want a real quiet furnace. I thought I had made that clear during the 1st contact with the owner. The furnace/air handler is in the kitchen and backs up to the living room. The new unit is at least as loud as the old unit and possibly a little louder. It does move more air and that may be the reason for the noise level. When signing the contract with the owner he said they took care of all permits, and that is stated on the contract, but when I asked the installers and service tech when the inspector would be out they said what permits and what inspector. My experience with installing any gas appliance is that a permit and inspection is required. I?m no expert so I may be wrong, but we were expecting permits and inspections. The gas company offers a rebate on new efficient appliances, which this furnace qualifies for. They require a form to be filled out by the installing company to process the rebate. During the 3rd visit by the installers I asked about said form. They called the owner who told them he thought he had gotten that to me already and that he would get it to me right away. I waited a few business days without seeing or hearing from him and getting nothing in the mail so I called. As soon as he heard my name he said he put it in the mail yesterday. He seemed awfully gruff and hung up as soon as he finished his statement. The paperwork did arrive shortly thereafter.

The technician told me my heat exchanger was fine and listed the things he checked to back up what he found. He was very informative and I really liked the guy, appearance aside, at least he seemed to know his job well. I was floored at the findings and felt like Atlantic was really trying to sell me a furnace and AC unit based on scare tactics. Al said he would come back out and take another look at my system. I don't think they mind doing the repair if need be but I feel very comfortable with this company and don't feel like they are out for personal gain at my expense.

They have done work for me in the past and I called them for a new unit for my house. They came right out and got the job done when they said they would. They were very pleasant people to work with. They were very knowledgeable about all of the options available and have provided service on my unit since installing it.
