Company scheduled to show up between 9-11AM on service day.  No one showed or attempted to call.  Called them early PM, said that they couldn't reach tech, but sure he was coming.  As of 7 PM no tech and no one is reachable at the company.  Called Lowes and demanded they provide a different company.  Would NEVER use them again.

They were supposed to contact me within 24 hours. It took them 7 days to call, then another 5 days to actually come to my home. They tried to reschedule twice before they came out. Said they'd be here in the morning, arrived after 12pm.
They already knew what was wrong from my warranty claim - the circuit board was shot. Tech stayed for 5 minutes, said "yep, your circuit board is shot." Then told me he couldn't fix it without ordering parts. Even though they already knew what was wrong from my work order through the warranty company, he came completely unprepared. (GE had provided the diagnosis based upon the error codes my washer was generating.)
Tech said the part would be here by tomorrow as long as the warranty company approved the parts order. Told me to call the warranty company, which I did. Warranty company told me A-1 had never submitted the parts order FOR them to approve.  Called the tech back; he said to call A-1's main office. Called the main office and spoke with the rudest women I've ever encountered. Her name was Jackie.  Explained my situation to Jackie and asked her to submit my work order.  Jackie said she had a truck load of other parts awaiting her attention and laughed at my request. I told her I was disappointed by my service with A-1, she snickered and said to take it up with the warranty company.
Part finally got ordered and even though they initially told me 1 day ETA.... the new ETA is 3-7 business days.  I will never recommend A-1 to anyone and will strongly urge my warranty company to drop them as a contracted provider.

After the repair completed I was contacted by A1 Appliance about 5 days later and was asked to pay additional charges for the work I had  done. The explaination was not clear but I needed to write them a check for additional parts.  I said If I knew that I would have not had the work done,  The person became confrontive and rude on the phone and I was not going to speak any more with them.  I have never had this type of condition occur and after readingappliance repair reviews on A1 Appliance I wanted to share my experience for other to consider.  Not a company I will do business with again.

Yes, I recommend this pro
Needless to say, I was quite concerned about using A-1 Appliance after reading the horrible reviews here. In fact, when I contacted the warranty office, I asked if there was any other repair company I could use, explaining my concern about A-1. The only other "authorized" local appliance repair shop required a couple week's wait -- and their reviews were nearly as bad -- so I decided to throw the dice and stick with A-1. It turned out to be a good decision!

When I purchased my Maytag refrigerator-freezer in December 2009, I also purchased Home Depot's extended 4 yr warranty for in-home repairs.

The freezer's ice maker never produced a high volume of cubes and those it did were often hollow. 21 months after buying the unit, the ice maker quit making cubes entirely so I phoned the Home Depot warranty office and reported the problem. I was pleased to learn the ice maker was covered and a technician from A-1 Appliance came to my home a few days later.

I can't recall the technician's name, but it may have been Drew (or Kevin). Nice guy. He quickly got to work on the ice maker, and after less than 30 mins, told me he was going to order a new water valve for the back of the fridge. He also mentioned the ice maker itself may need replacing so he ordered a new one, just to be sure the problem would be fixed.

He said the parts would take up to two weeks to come in and A-1 would come install them at that time. I believe the total cost for the two parts was around $100, but since I had warranty coverage, my cost was nothing.

Two weeks later, I got a call from A-1 telling me the parts had arrived and the technician arrived later THAT SAME DAY to install it. I was pleased it was the same technician as before. It took him about 30 mins to remove the old ice maker parts and install & test the new parts. He mentioned my water flow into the ice maker was only a trickle and suggested I consider having a plumber route a more direct connection using my kitchen sink plumbing (the current connection goes under my house, rather than to the kitchen sink).

He also instructed me on how to get better water flow by adjusting the valve under the house, which I did while he continued to work in the kitchen. His suggestion worked and the water flow into the ice maker was much better after I adjusted the valve under the house.

In summary, I was VERY pleased with the service I got from A-1 Appliance. It would seem, at least from my experience, that they've managed to correct the customer service problems reported earlier by other Angie's List members.

A-1 came after 2 calls and diagnosed the fan as faulty. We waited 5 days and they came with a new fan which lasted 2 days. Another man came and diagnosed a "board failure or maybe just a bad fan again". Again we waited for parts and again they failed to fix the problem. We went back to Lowe's Service and were informed that A-1 had our refrigerator marked as fixed but she said they would be here the following Wed because they had ordered the part today. I was told by A-1 that it was ordered last week and would be in on the 27th. I went to the Lowe's store and they opted (after talking to A-1 & their Service Dept) to give us a new refrigerator. It comes tomorrow. A-1 is not customer oriented and I doubt their competency, other than installing parts. They schedule for 9 to 5 and you wait all day - sometimes they do not show up at all. I have had 5 whole days wasted waiting and I still do not have a refrigerator. If you have to have warranty work done, ask your retailer to identify the company and refuse A-1. If you call to check, the peope are very terse (just short of saying "Tough". We know things go wrong but this was above that. A-1 will never come into my home again!
