The project/building was HORRIBLE overall. In June, 2011 when the contract was signed I gave the Contractor a check for $9,000. All materials were picked out by me with the Contractor by my side and I took samples of everything that I had selected - (the contractor took nothing with him). Two months later and by the time the project was to be completed, only a hole had been dug to lay the foundation - (by then $18,000 had been paid) and I only had the foundation dug up, but I paid installment # 2. By the end of December of 2011 - (6 months later) I still did not have a completed building but the contractor needed more money. I did a walk thru with the Contractor and found that the building was leaking, the concrete foundation was uneven and it was not in any condition to use at all. As I did the walk-thru with the Contractor - I pointed out everything that was wrong and that needed to be fixed before he received his final payment and the Contractor never took a single note. The roofing that I had picked out and paid for was not the roof that was put on the Storage Building. When it rained, the concrete floor would flood and their was no insulation put on the walls so rain came thru - not a building to use for storing anything. When the wind blew, the siding buckled up and fell off. When I refused to make the final payment until everything was fixed, the Contractor thru up his hands and said he was finished and that there was nothing wrong with the building. In July of this year, (July, 2012) the Contractor decided to take me to Court to get his final payment which I never gave him because the Storage Building is not usable and nothing has been done to fix it. Because he tried to sue me for non payment of his final $8,000, I had to get an Attorney so I used the final $8,000 to pay for my Attorney. The case was dismissed and I still don't have a Storage Building that I can use so I have to get another Contractor to fix the problems from the first Contractor. As I reflect on the horrible Contractor experience, I realize that there were signs along the way that I ignored. The Contractor that I used didn't want to take any direction from a female therefore he did what he wanted and thought he could get away with it. What he didn't realize is that as a Professional Woman, we know what we want and will pay to get it or we won't pay if you try to take advantage of us and don't give us what we are willing to pay for it. Whether the Contractor likes it or not, we are paying them to do it the way we want it and not have them second guess what we should have. Let this be a lesson to all - if you feel that your Contractor isn't really listening to you, walk away immediately and don't pay the price that I did buy trying to go with a local contractor, go with your gut and continue to look for a Contractor who not only wants your business but wants to give you what you want. As of 12/31/2012 - I still don't have a usable 1200 sq ft Storage Unit!!!
Description of Work: Little Creek Excavating was a Contractor that was recommended by someone that I trusted. I contracted to have them build a 1200 Sq Ft. Storage Unit on my property. I wanted the Storage Unit to look as if it was a house on the outside so it would fit in the neighborhood, complete with siding, shingles and a roof that to the passerby looked like a 1200 sq ft home. The total cost/estimate was $27,000 payable in 3 installments / at the beginning of the project, the middle and the end. The contract was signed in June of 2011 and the project was to be completed no later than August 2011. This storage building was to provide shelter for antiques and other valuable family furniture, etc that had been passed down thru generations.
