My parents used this cleaning service for 3 years. They were signed up as "premium" customers which meant they were scheduled for twice a month cleanings on a monthly basis. Unfortunately my father passed away and my mother no longer has the funds to keep the service up and running. She called the owner and asked to cancel the service and he (Todd) made her aware of the 30 day cancellation notice that is written into their contract which requires her to pay for two additional cleanings. My mother called me upset saying that Todd was very rude to her over the phone and she was nervous about the financial implications. So I gave Todd a call and very politely asked for him to work with us given the extenuating circumstances and find some sort of middle ground. We might have just caught Todd on a bad day but he is clearly a tightly wound, defensive person. Our 5 minute conversation quickly descended into him raising his voice, saying "these contracts are what I live by" and that "if I was in your parents situation I would never ask to break a contract". When I tried to calm him down, he interrupted me again, aggressively, yelled "I'll see you in court!" and then hung up the phone. From my understanding, the cleaners of this service really do great work, but it is a shame they are being employed by a person of this caliber. I would think twice about utilizing a service that ultimately lines the pockets of an individual lacking empathy & professional maturity.

I contact the company and the owner answered the phone. I told him that I had gotten his information from Angie's List. He directed me to his website. The website listed his pricing and gave hourly rates for regular cleanings. I scheduled for someone to come and clean my house. The cleaning lady came and did a good job on the areas that she cleaned. She was there for 6.5 hours and said didn't have time to clean my entire house. I accepted that. She called the owner to see what the cost would be. He told her it was $170. The cleaning lady commented "Wow, I wonder if I'm going to get paid! This seems low." I thought the pricing was reasonable and the service was ok. So I contracted for them to come on a biweekly basis. The cleaning lady came with a contract pre-filled out by the owner. 20 minutes after she left I received a text from the owner stating that the price he gave her was wrong. He stated he had charged me for 4.5 hours instead of 6.5 therefor the cost should have been $242, "I got confused here at three things going on so I do apologize..." I then reminded him that according to his bi-weekly pricing on his website, which I signed the contract for, the price should have been $236 - $30 off from Angie's List magazine. He then tells me "Our website reflects the Angie's list $30 off deal and as long as you stay a customer of ours we continue to give you that $30 off...". I told him that made no sense because anyone that goes to the website without going through Angie's List see and gets that pricing. Because I'd signed the contract and it required a 30 day notice to dissolve, the cleaning lady came to clean my house again yesterday. I had contracted for 3.5 hours. She shows up 15 minutes late and leaves 7 minutes early. This all would have been fine if she had cleaned the house. I called the owner to let him know about my dissatisfaction of her not doing the basic cleaning of dusting the furniture or vacuuming the floor. He told me that I had provided them a cleaning list therefore she didn't know what I wanted. I told him that his website listed the services that they would provide and if I wanted extra then I needed to supply that, but all I wanted was the basics and that was not provided. He told me my house was too big to do all of that in the 3.5 hour timeframe. I told him I did not want them to come back and I would fulfill my obligation on the contract that I sign and pay them for the remaining services on my contract. I think that the owner misrepresented himself regarding the Angie's List discount and was very rude when he is questioned about anything. I think that I was totally ripped off from this company, I will pay them a total of $592 for 2 cleaning services performed.

Mid-Atlantic Maid Service offers tailor made service that essentially lets the customer allocate the amount and scope of work to be performed on the day and time they desire. This allows the maid to focus 100% on just what is expected and also provides more than adequate time for the work to be performed in a high quality way without the maid having to rush their work in order to make time for another job.

The maid showed up on time and ready to work. The cleaning job was impressive - the house hasn't been this clean in a couple of years! Exceptional job with the bathrooms, and the work required almost no intervention on my part. We ended up holding her over for some additional time based upon the thorough job she was doing. I can't speak for every member of the staff there, but the woman they sent to us today was a great worker. The manager was also excellent to work with (he called a day ahead to confirm times, and did a nice follow-up call as well). We will be using them bi-weekly going forward.

The cleaning service was fine.  But this company has a lot of trouble with scheduling.
We had a reason to travel on an extended trip, so we wanted to suspend service while we were out of town.  We were told that the service agreement obligates us for bi-weekly in segments for ten weeks and the segment that we are currently in will not expire until May 9th.  Considering that we have been a client since 2011, we expected some consideration.  No was offered.
RECOMMENDATION:  Do not sign a service agreement with this company unless you fully understand it.  It is not easy to understand.

I've used them for several years. It is $90 for 3 hours. I have never had them cancel on me and their performance is consistent. It's been my experience with most cleaning services that they are never going to clean your house as well as you do but it has met my expectations. The interaction has been very positive.

The staff is friendly, however the cleaners that come out are always different. Some do better than others. Do while one visit is sparkling clean, the next is mediocre or not very good at all.

This company has been providing us with great cleaning services for almost two years.  As with all cleaning services, there are some areas occasionally missed but there have been very few of these instances. We understand that problems will be corrected as soon as a maid can make it to our house.  However, we have never had a problem of the magnitude that required their return.
Both my wife and I are very particular and do not tolerate sub-standard services.  Having stated the previous, we plan on
using Maid Services of Richmond for the foreseeable future.

This vendor is out of Midlothian (Richmond suburb), VA the service the company performs is house cleaning; however the owners and manager require a written contract for their services.  ?
This "Service Agreement" ties you into using their service for a period of time of appointments/cleanings at a set rate and has one out clause and that is a 30 day notice, no clauses for incomplete/bad service, missed appointments etc...  You must provide a written-certified letter 30 days before expiration or they "auto-renew / evergreen" the contract for another 12 months.
Many states have laws against these types of contracts; Virginia is business friendly and does not.
I wouldn't recommend this service provider.

Basic house cleaning services have been provided for almost a year now.  We are satisfied with the services and they compare favorably to like companies that we have had in other locations.

We had a great start to the services and that continued until the cleaner moved out of the area.  After that two or three cleaners came but they were unsatisfactory.  After that rough patch, the company provided an new cleaner who does excellent work.

The worst experience with a service provider I have ever had.  I have moved to three cities and have had cleaning services in each.  I have never churned as it is an important relationship and should be based on mutual respect.  Maid Service of Richmond was a horrible experience and we tried to stay with them as long as possible.
I hope this review stops someone else from making the same mistake.

I too was deceived by the number of positive reviews on Google. I have an exceptionally clean house and I decided to use Mid Atlantic because they are supposed to work from a list I provide. What I ask is just not difficult, I want normal cleaning done but I also want specific things done, for example cobwebs cleaned one visit and then baseboards cleaned the next visit so they are both done once each month (I have a biweekly contract). What I got was a surface cleaning, and I'm using that term loosely. The list I provided didn't even get read by the first or the second person who came to clean. The current employee used some of the list the first time she was here and has cleaned her way since. That cleaning in no way resembles the cleaning outlined on the Mid Atlantic website by the way. The employees are obviously not trained, there is no consistency whatsoever. There is no detail cleaning, what you get is very basic dusting, vacuuming of floors (even hardwood which just sends the dirt to the corners) swishing a mop about and wiping surfaces with a wet rag. What's my recourse? Talk to Todd, the very abrasive owner. I have talked to Todd, he sends someone else and we start the same process over again. The fact is I signed a contract for 10 cleanings and they can't be fired by me for the poor job they do. I have to pay them for whatever they choose to do, or not do in this case.  And, since Todd requires 30 days notice of termination, or your contract AUTOMATICALLY renews (at a higher rate). Well, my fault, but I gave him only 29 days notice. I expect I'll be sued by Todd to pay for a service I do not want. I've checked Chesterfield County court records and he has no problem suing his "customers". Todd, the owner, called me following my notice of nonrenewal, he offered to see if he could "sell my spot", I asked what that meant and apparently if someone calls and contracts for Wednesday mornings every two weeks before my contract is up, I can discontinue my service. He also said he would check with the "owner" (records say he is the only owner) and let me know if 29 days was good enough. Since he did not call back I sent him an email stating that I was not satisfied with the service and that October 17 would be my last service date. This is by far the worst cleaning service I have ever used.

***Email from Todd, the owner of Mid-Atlantic, on October 31, 2012. "Just want you to know we will file suit 11-5-12 and let the judge decide. Good Luck to you and look forward to this meeting." (And yes, I was served yesterday.)

Although I was promised a specific person would be assigned to my home, week after week a new person would appear.  As a result, the quality of the service was horrible!  The only way I was able to determine a housekeeper had indeed visited my home was because the payment for services (check) would be missing.  The owner, Todd is irrational and incompetent! Todd continuously referred to my husband as, "My old man"  and openly discussed his drunken benges. In addition, I was appalled when he disclosed I would again have a different housekeeper because the woman from the previous week was, "on her period.'

The contract one is required to sign makes it  impossible to end service.  Notice is required 30 days from the 4th cleaning session or it is automatically renewed based on weekly service (even if your service is bi-weekly).  So, in short you are required to provide a notice after the 3rd cleaning sessions or will be required to renew the contract for 13 additional cleanings.  Also, after signing the contract, the owner, Todd, made handwritten changes on the document.  We are now pending litigation with the company in hopes of ending this horrific nightmare!!!   Todd, the owner, continues to harrass my family by personally calling my home leaving outrageous voicemails and repeatedly mailing documents to my house.  Dealing with this company has been a nightmare!!!!!!

obtained the number from the internet and decided to use the company based on the number of positive reviews that I saw on Google.  I looked at their website and noticed that they had a coupon for $75 for 2 1/2 hours of cleaning.  I contacted the company and spoke with the owner.  I indicated that I was looking for every other week service and he indicated that he could offer 2 1/2 hours of cleaning by one individual for $75 or 3 hours for $85.  I said that what I needed cleaned should only take 2 1/2 hours.  He said that someone would be out between 8:00 - 8:30 on Friday, Sept 2nd and for me to have a list of what services I wanted performed.  I left a list indicating the rooms that I wanted clean and the order that I wanted them cleaned based on the cut-off of 2 1/2 hours.  I waited Friday morning expecting to see someone by 8:30.  At 8:30 I contacted the owner who indicated that his girl would be there in a few minutes and I asked what is a few minutes and he replied with "less than 5" his girl was in traffic (I live in Chesterfield County, we don't have traffic).  At 8:45 still no one has arrived and I called and left a message stating that I needed to leave but I left the door open and the list of rooms along with a check on our kitchen island.  He did call me back and state that the girl was there and to call him that night if I had any problems. When I got home that night there was a note saying that the girl had forgotten the check and paperwork and to please mail them to her boss.

Upon inspecting the service, it appeared that the only work that had been done was mopping of the kitchen floor, vacuuming of the floors (but no objects on the floor were moved, vacuum was done around anything on the floor) and wiping of the kitchen table (again, only around objects on the table, nothing was moved).  We noticed that our upstairs toilet had not been cleaned and no countertops in the entire house (bathroom or kitchen) had been wiped down.  In addition, any detail cleaning that you might expect had not been completed (window sills, baseboards, windows, etc).  At this time I decided that after the late showing and the poor cleaning job, that I would not be using the company again.  I planned on mailing my check and letting the owner know that I would not need additional service.

On Sunday morning, I received numerous calls (5) from the owner on both my house phone and cell phone.  On the 5th call, I finally answered the phone (we were having breakfast).  The owner asked if he could come by and pick up the check and contract.  I told the owner that I would be out for the day but would leave the check in the mailbox and that I was not signing a contract because I did not want to continue service.  I explained to him that the service was poor and that the cleaning lady did a horrible job.  He responded with shock and said he would send someone out; I said no need, let's just end this business transaction and he replied that he felt bad taking my money since the job was so poor.

The following Tuesday I received a call from the owner telling me that I owed "short-changed" him and owed him an additional $114 because I only had a single cleaning.  I did not know what he was talking about because I was under the impression that the cleaning was $75 for 2 1/2 hours.  He said, that price is only for every other week service only and since I didn't sign up for service I needed to pay the one time cleaning charge of $189; he also indicated that it clearly states this on his website - which if you search the website you can find that one-time cleaning is $189 but there is nothing on the website that indicates that if you are not happy with a cleaning and don't want to have service that you will be charged $189.  I informed that I would not be paying any additional money because the service was so poor and not worth an additional $114.  He preceded to blame for this saying it was fault for not contacting him the night of cleaning.  I said, it isn't my responsibility to call you - I gave you a chance to earn my business, your lady was late and the job was poor and I wanted to end the business transaction with the $75 payment and did want to deal with company any further.  And based on the contract that I did not sign, he listed cleaning services that would be performed, almost all of which were not done and that he was fortunate I was willing to pay the $75.  He replied that it wasn't his fault the girl was late because of traffic (I assumed the 8:00 - 8:30 range was to allow for problems, and the range was not until 8:50 when she did arrive) and that I should have called him the night of.  I said, I'm sorry I'm not paying you anything more because it was never clear to me and we had agreed upon the $75 charge and he had never mentioned to me that I would need to pay $189 if I chose not to engage in a contract.  One time cleaning fee was never mentioned.  He said he would see more in court and he has filed a motion in small claims court for the additional $114.  I'm looking forward to defending myself.

By all means avoid this company, service is substandard and the owner attempts to cheat you out of your money.

Found this company through a coupon pack that arrived in the mail. Agreed to 10 visits for $67.00 each. Due to the poor quality of the work and the fact that the housekeeper consistently arrived much later than the agreed-upon time, my husband and I attempted to cancel the service about a week before the last visit came due. Was informed that the contract specified that cancellation had to be in writing 30 or 60 days (can't remember) prior to the last contracted visit. We were told that since we were late in canceling, we were automatically under contract for 10 more visits at $72.00 each. Owner said he'd try to "sell our slot" but never indicated how that could be accomplished and never notified us that we could leave the contract. We asked to be changed from every two weeks to every four weeks so we could have a housekeeper who actually cleaned well come in between their visits. The owner told us that the reason for the poor quality cleaning was because we were not absolutely specific with instructions on what tasks the housekeeper should perform. He said we had to write down exactly what we wanted done prior to each visit. My husband and I thought "dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning of bathrooms" was sufficient instruction. We ended up being overcharged by $5 for one of the visits (9 visits were made for the original coupon cost of $67.00 each ? should have been 10, and 11 visits for $72.00 ? should have been 10), but we were so happy to be finally done with this service that we considered it a "good riddance" fee. Both my husband and I contacted the owner about the mistake, hoping to be released from the last cleaning visit, but we were unable to get anywhere beyond being told that we were under contract for the last visit at $72.

Mid Atlantic Maids (Todd Borowski) brings many many customers to court through various entanglements. Mr. Borowski is a nonprofessional who yells, and screams at his client le and harasses them. He doesn't keep the hours that he schedules you for and takes you to court on bogus charges. He claims that he has insurance but when damage occurs he does not send his insurance adjusters.

I think they do a pretty good job. The workers are always on time and they are well supervised. I don't feel it takes them a long time to get the work done and I am pretty much satisfied.
