I felt as though I was taken advantage of. He was called out here to give me an estimate of a new unit, and then upon discovering that the unit did not have freeon, put freeon in the unit and charged a service charge that included certain checks that were not performed. I don't mind paying for the freeon or a service charge, just feel that I did not get services that I had to pay for. In addition, I requested an estimate on a new unit and I felt as though since I may not be purchasing one in the near future, he did not give a good estimate on the cost nor review the units for what may be needed. I say that because the next day I had another company come out for a estimate, and they did a very thorough job of reviewing the intake unit, outside units, all the duck work in the attic and under the house.
Description of Work: The company was called for an estimate for a new a/c unit based on adverting in a Val Pack package. When the service tecnician arrived, he questioned as to why I wanted a new unit. After explaining what was going on with the unit, he checked the intake unit inside and then the outdoor unit. He determined that the outdoor unit had little to no freeon. He tested for freeon and discovered it was extremly low. I authorized him to put freeon in the unit. He put 5 lbs in the unit and advised it may last 1 month or it may last 1 year. He advised to wait and see how that did before putting in a new unit and then gave me a bill. The bill included the freeon cost plus a $79.95 service charge for the service of two units. He advised he would charge the service price per the Val Pack package, which included checks of 10 different items. When I asked if he had completed all of the checks on the two units, he replied yes, but I do not believe all the checks were done. When I asked about the estimate for the new unit, he gave me figures for a several new units, a brief description of the units and the differences between them, and then made a recommendation of a certain unit; however, he id not explain what all was included with that cost. The freeon last in the unit for 1 day. After talking with other persons, I discovered that he should have done a line test for freeon leakage. Based on this type of test, he should have advised me that the line had too leaks to hold the freeon and not even put the freeon in the unit.
