Working with Capitol Granite was a great experience! They truly are a customer service centric company which makes all the difference. Haley who helped us pick out our stone was patient and detailed. CG also installed our kitchen cabinets. Jim and George did an amazing job and the countertop installation was flawless. We will be working with them again when we remodel our bathrooms.

Install fair, callbacks to trim granite. Just cut flat and did not add expensive sealant we paid for and left sharp edges. Poor job on ceiling molding and totally irresponsive about the fix. Will not return calls regarding molding fix. Their idea was to split the molding and add two decorative pieces for only $ 600.

Installation was slower than expected and there were a number of issues requiring adjustment, replacement, and repairs. One of the granite counter-tops was too wide and had to be field cut- the cut edge is rough finish with chips and edge radius does not match. Not sure that the tech applied the sealant. Crown molding was (2) sections and were poorly matched. Capitol rep (Brian) advised they would take care of. Repair was as bad or worse than original. Capitol tech said he would use single length- then later Capitol says that particular molding was not available in that length (10-1/2' ????) but tech could glue two sections in shop and joints would match and it would look like one piece. Not true- when tech came to fix he had two pieces and, once again, misapplied and with gap. Brian at Capitol offers fix to split the molding and insert two accents ( and they would only charge us $ 600). Thanks but no thanks, it was faulty installation by Capitol and they should make the proper correction. Big problem I have is that Capitol does not or will not reply to emails and phone calls- clearly they do not want to correct their problems.

End result is fabulous, I enjoy it every day. The sales person was a very good communicator, never pushy, very patient. She walked their stone display yard with me in the rain without complaint. Guided me through the maze of options. I chose an end product I am happy with at a price that was not cheap but competitive and predictable.

Great service.  Countertops were scheduled and installed on time. Installation went smoothly.  Turnkey removal of old tops and plumbing work was well worth the additional cost.  Small plumbing problem after the new tops were installed was resolved in a timely manner.

They have been outstanding! They will be coming out to measure, but as far as providing information and keeping me up to date on what I need to know, they have been very, very good. Before I actually signed up to do anything with anybody, I actually ran into Capitol Granite at a home show. I got to talk to them and I got a lot of information from them. I actually won a prize and I went down, and they just showed me everything, how it all worked and how the whole process worked. I don't have it measured, cut and installed at this point, but so far, they have been very responsive to any questions I have.

I was told 3 weeks in a row that the granite would be in the next week. After the 3rd time and being told that the granite would be in, I canceled the order with Home Depot and am in the process of ordering through another company. This issue has pushed back the completion of my bathroom remodel by 3 weeks. I would not use them again.
Response from Capitol Granite

"I appreciate the comment. Home Depot REQUIRES a certain supplier, which was out of that color material. We are at the mercy of the supplier and their commitments, and typically will use our network of suppliers to procure when one or the other is out of stock."

A good experience overall.  The office staff in Williamsburg are first rate, friendly and knowledgeable.  Installers were usually prompt and professional.  Only once did they have to reschedule part of the installation and that did not appear to be their fault.  The one glitch came when a "non-plumber" installed the faucet and did it incorrectly.  When we phoned because it was leaking, the qualified plumber came out and assured us that he should have been called to do the installation.  A bit of a hassle to have to phone but, overall, no biggie.

My contract was another company and they sub contracted Capitol Granite to do the job. I live in a condo that has lots of funny angles and my kitchen design was very problematic and I had made the determination that I wanted a particular product which is not all that common. It was a quartz called Cambria and not many people work with it. They made the counter tops and did a lay out but I didn't like where the sims were and they actually reworked the whole thing so that they could get the job done for me with the sims where I could tolerate them and keep it down to where it would fit in a slab. They were extremely responsive and one guy came out and did the measurements and two guys came and carried this ungodly heavy slab up 3 flights of stairs and installed this thing in a couple of hours and they did a beautiful job. The price was pretty good for what I got. I started this thing around the middle of summer with the other company and I would fight with them about it but they kept dropping the ball on me, I think because it was such a weird job but one Capitol started working on it, everything went smoothly and they were responsive and they came when they said they would.

Professionally and well done. Billing situation was a little confused and could have been better. Don't know if they thought I was trying to skip out on the bill but that was the problem, they hadn't billed me for the balance and then got really aggressive. Not a show stopper and would use them again.
Response from Capitol Granite

"Thank you for trusting us with your countertops and thanks for taking the time to give us valuable feedback. I'm sorry about the confusing billing situation. We're looking at our records to find out what went wrong and improve our process. I hope you and your family are enjoying a wonderful holiday season! Many thanks, Rebekah Hollins, Capitol Granite"

My wife and I first contacted Capitol Granite in April or May of 2012. We hired them to put granite countertops in our kitchen and two bathrooms. We experienced a litany of problems with them starting with the fact that they miscut a large piece of granite for one of the countertops in the kitchen, making it too short. (This is after we paid for a laser cut template, supposedly). They also unhooked our plumbing and damaged our floor in the process somehow.
At the same time, they also miscut a piece of granite that was supposed to go into my wife's bathroom. They made it the dimensions of the counter in our other bathroom. She had to pick out a different piece of granite because there was none left in our original slab.
We had a meeting with the operations manager, installer, and saleswoman. To their credit, they credited us with a thousand dollars to compensate us for the blunders. They also paid for the floors to get fixed although it took about six weeks for that to happen.
I picked out a beautiful piece of granite for the counter in our second bathroom. Incredibly, they miscut this piece also! They next cut a second piece from the same slab, but it broke. With no more granite left, they found identical granite at another company in Richmond. However, the manager refused to sell me a similar size piece of granite and instead was going to make me buy an entire slab of granite, to correct their mistake! This left me having to pick out a different piece of granite, one I do not like as much. Because of these problems, we paid them half of what they wanted to charge us for this piece.
After starting in April with capitol granite, they finally finished the work in mid-July. In summary they incorrectly cut three large pieces of granite for three different countertops. The manager refused to call me back when I tried to talk to him about the last piece of granite. Their operation reminds me of the Keystone cops or circus clowns.  I recommend dealing with them only if you thrive on stress and frustration. As the expression goes, "Be afraid, be very afraid".
Response from Capitol Granite

"Dear Member, Thank you so much for your honest feedback. I sincerely apologize that we failed to meet your expectations throughout the installation of your new granite countertops. As an owner, I look forward to customers' comments. The positive feedback gives us the opportunity to provide commendation to one of the over 80 employees we have working here at our Midlothian office. And, when we fall short of meeting expectations, we value the opportunity for ongoing training and overall improvement of our process. I personally made a trip to your home in an attempt to resolve all outstanding issues both from a monetary standpoint as well as service and satisfaction standpoint. Mistakes were definitely made. We acknowledged them, took responsibility, and made every effort to make things right with you in the end. We're sorry we let you down. At Capitol Granite, we strive to make each customer experience a delight, from picking out your raw material to template, delivery and installation. When we have failed to provide a positive experience for you, we will always do our best to fix the situation as quickly as possible. If you're interested, I'd like to invite you back to the shop for a plant tour with myself and the Production Manager. This would allow us the opportunity to better explain our process, and perhaps provide some answers as to why your project was not as successful as the typical Capitol Granite install. To schedule a visit, please reach out to me directly through email at [email protected]. Sincerely, Brian Ellis Vice President"

I went through Costco for my kitchen counter, all started out ok, the my sales guy was nice, prompt, and responsive.
They came out and did my laser template.  When my counter was delivered they had cut the holes for the faucet in the wrong place.  They offered several "fixes" but I did not want to settle for a design change.  They told me it would take another 2 weeks to get another counter cut and delivered.  This put my  kitchen project on hold for 2 weeks, I had to re-schedule my sub-contractors.
My total out of pocket costs for their error was greater than $300.00. I had to pay my tile guy for 1/2 day since I canceled him the night before he was to start work. I had to pay my installer to re-install my old counter top and plumbing, which no longer fit on the base due to the build-up required for the new counter top. The told me they would not provide me with any additional discount to cover my out of pocked expensed incurred due to their error.  They referenced the fact they were already giving me my "Costco discount"
Both times that they came to install my counter, they arrived several hours later that what they told me.  They never called to tell me they were going to be late.  The first install they were to arrive before 5:30 pm, at 6:10 pm, I had to call and see where they were.  The second install I was assured that I had the first install of the day "around 8:30 am"  by 10:30 am no one had arrived, and when I called was told that they had "2 other small jobs to do before me"   I like my contractor, but watching him stand around on the clock, waiting for the installers makes me angry.
With  the 2 week delay and my extra incurred expenses, this counter cost me significantly more than their competitors price.
The most disappointing part of this, other than  my sales person, on one at Capitol Granite seemed to care that they caused me significant project delays, and costs, and when they knew I was not happy with their service made no attempt the turn the bad experience around.

I had a great experience with Capitol Granite. They are the supplier for Lowes and Home Depot in our area. I decided to work directly with them to support local businesses and cut out the big store middle man. Bert came out promptly to do the measurements. He was quick and accurate. Everyone who came out to the house was very friendly and helpful. The only miscommunication was that the template guy said they would connect the dishwasher when they usually don't. The installer, Shawn was very professional and nice, he did a great job.  We are very pleased with the results. It was nice to be able to pick out the slab as granite does vary a bit.

The sales people were very friendly and helpful but the installation was awful. The installer arrived with an attitude that worsened the longer he was there. I paid for the faucets to be hooked up but the installer said he didn't know anything about them and that he didn't do faucet installations. I showed him the invoice and he started complaining about the office promising things installers couldn't do. He also gouged a hole in my wall.  Capitol sent out someone later in the week to hook up the faucets but did nothing about the hole in the wall. The installer was so bad that I would never use Capitol again.

They were contracting for Lowes. They were great; they were hard working and they knew their trade. They did a very professionally looking job. The workers were polite and obviously well trained. We had a little confusion about when they were coming and whether they would have our granite, but there haven?t been issues other than that. They have been very good about communicating with us even though there were some mix ups.

On 20 March 2008, Capitol Granite and Marble's office in Williamsburg installed granite kitchen countertops and back splashes in our home. There were no problems with the countertops, but the back splashes had not been cut properly and had to be re-cut. After many calls to see when they would complete the work, they finally installed the re-cut back splashes. At this point, however, they found that the bridge behind the gas range had been cut wrong (there was a gap between the range and the bridge) and two of the back splashes had now been trimmed too much and two new back splashes would have to be made--again. After a couple of weeks of not hearing anything back from them, they finally showed up and installed the new bridge and back splashes. Everything was fine, but the backsplash behind the range was darker than the countertops and the other back splashes. One of the installers said, "it's darker because it's been outside in the rain--it'll lighten up." After one week, the backsplash was still too dark. After calling the company again and being told they'd send someone out to look at it, I never heard back from them again until I received an invoice for the balance of the bill. I called the main office in Midlothian (from whence the bill had come) and explained that the work had not been completed to my satisfaction. They called the Williamsburg office and someone came out to look at it the following week. The man acknowledged the difference in color and said he might have some of the other granite left from which a new backsplash could be made--he said he'd be in touch. After 5 weeks, I'd still not heard back from him, but I received another invoice asking about payment of the balance. I wrote "will be paid upon completion of job" on the invoice and mailed it back to the Midlothian office. Two weeks later, on 17 July, I still had not heard from anyone, but received a mildly threatening letter about payment of the balance. I called the Midlothian office again and left a message for the manager, Christine Lanyon. She called me back the next day and I explained to her the situation. She said she was unaware of what had been going on, apologized, and said she'd call the Williamsburg office herself, and that no more invoices would be sent out until the job was completed to my satisfaction. As of today, 23 July, I have yet to hear back from Ms. Lanyon or the Williamsburg office. That's 4 MONTHS after the countertops were installed. What ever happened to "the customer is always right" and "the customer comes first?" I'll be happy to pay them what I owe after they've completed the job, but holding out on the balance is the only leverage I have over them to finish the job. It shouldn't be this way.
