Sadly, we won't be using Broughton's again for boarding our pets. Please be careful when using their services.

Our dogs left Broughton's so soaked in their own urine that their feet had deep burns, the hair on their bellies and legs was stained yellow & falling out in clumps, and our female dog had a quarter-size (semi-healed) gash under her neck that ran almost to the end of her chin (red flag!). When we got home, CJ got out of the car & wouldn't walk on one of his front paws. Belle got out of the car not putting weight on one of her rear legs. We bathed them right away, being quick about it since we knew the urine burns on their feet had to sting. The amount of hair that fell off of their bellies during & after the bath was alarming. After sending pictures to the vet to be sure I was not crazy in thinking our dogs had been neglected, I called Broughton's. I told them we understand our dogs coming home tired, dirty, and smelly. We were not happy about them returning with lick/hot spots, pink eye, and uncontrollable sneezing which we treated at home, but the urine burns & neck wound were unacceptable. Had we known our dogs were suffering we would have had them picked up a week earlier saving them a lot of pain due to neglect. Broughton's answer was that our dogs were old and laid around a lot. When asked, they offered no explanation as to why they didn't call us. I asked if they had even really looked at our dogs, and could I send them pictures of the wounds. Once Broughton's received the pics, they asked what they could do to "resolve the issue". After sending the pictures to Broughton's, they offered to pay our vet bills, but stated that they would not refund the kennel fee. After 4 weeks of vet visits, I told them that our dogs urine burns were due to neglect under their care and they agreed to refund us half of the kennel cost. I asked them in the future to consider calling dog owners rather than letting things get so out of hand and allowing pets to suffer. Although we received some monetary restitution, our dogs suffered greatly because of a company that is in the business of caring for animals and claims to enjoy dogs. If you care at all for your pets, please choose another kennel as I believe neglect is the least of the animal mistreatment that goes on here.

Excellent care of our dogs. The 3 dogs are very different and each one had a good experience They were able to give our German Sheppard a bath which was a great surprise as he does not like strangers near him. He even walked willingly into the kennel area away from us wagging his tail. The older dog who usually plants her feet when going to a kennel went happily. She did not plant her feet The puppy had no issues We will definitely go back

This is a wonderful place for my big goldendoodle. We recently rescued a smaller mixed breed, and he liked Broughton's too. One of the best things is that Broughton's has a good relationship with my vet. So the vet's office just emails the health info to them.

These people should find a business that doesn't include animals and they should hire staff that want peoples' pets to be at least comfortable. Our dogs left Broughton's so soaked in their own urine that their feet had deep burns, the hair on their bellies was stained yellow & falling out in clumps, and our female dog had a quarter-size gash under her neck that ran almost to the end of her chin (Red Flag!). It was explained to me that our dogs were old & laid around a lot, (we left dog beds which came back unused) but when I sent pictures of their wounds, they offered to pay our vet bills, but not refund the kennel fee or let us know how they got the wounds. I told them we understand our dogs coming home tired, dirty, smelly, sneezing, with lick/hot spots, and even pink eye, all of which we treated at home, but the urine burns & neck wound were unacceptable. Had we known our dogs were suffering we would have had them picked up a week earlier saving them a lot of pain due to neglect. Broughton's agreed to refund us half of our kennel cost. If you care at all for your pets, choose another kennel as I believe neglect is the least of the animal mistreatment that goes on here. One dog us back to her old self, the other if forever changed. Broughton's also allows employees (Jordan Barnett) to write reviews (FB & Google) in order to boost ratings.

My dogs are Bichons and my cat is Persian. They seemed very happy when I returned home and in good shape. This is a Kennel not a foo foo setting. They took good care of my babies and I was happy with the service and their patience when I called so often to check on them. I was allowed to bring my own bedding, since me dogs are older that was nice. I will definitely use them again.

We boarded our dog at Broughton's for a week, but I will never take the dog back there again. In all, we used the kennel twice. The first time, things seemed as they should. However, when we picked her up after the second visit, things didn't seem normal at all. We had asked for the dog to be groomed before pick up, but she didn't smell or feel clean. Instead, she was covered in what smelled like baby powder. Also, the fur on her legs past her ankles was wet - which I know is from standing in her own slobber in a kennel. She slobbers and shakes uncontrollably when she is nervous and locked in a crate/kennel for a long time.
The price is much lower than other kennels, probably because they keep their operating costs low by doing as little with the dogs as possible. Other than keeping them cooped up in the kennel, there is very little interaction with the animals. Though Broughton's is on a lovely piece of land with plenty of space for dogs to run, you have to pay extra for the staff to give attention to your dog, and even then, I'm not so sure they actually do it. We paid for the extra service, but received no report of who and quot;playedand quot; with my dog, or when it happened.

This was my first time personally using Broughton's Kennel, but I have had many friends and family used them before. When I arrived to drop off my dog they were very polite and excited to see him. I was extremely nervous due to the fact this was the first time I was using a boarding kennel for my dog. All the employees reassured me that he would be taken care of and allowed me to bring an old t-shirt of mine to place in the kennel.
I called once in the middle of my trip to see how he was doing, and they told me everything that he was doing. I was very pleased with this and how they accommodated my needs. When I came to pick him up they gave me an information sheet on what I should do once I arrive home to adjust him back to being home. The information sheet was very helpful and allowed me to prevent my dog from getting sick.
One thing that shocked me when I picked my dog up was the fact that he was clean. My dog is pure white, so I expected him to be a little dirty as he usually gets even when at home, but he was still white and did not smell bad. I am very please with Broughton's Kennel and I will use them again in the future.

The grounds were very well kept.. The office was professional and so were the staff members. I had abosolutely no issues with their service. They charge by the day, so if you pick your dog up in the morning, you still pay for an entire day. I assumed they charged by nights stayed, like a human hotel, but I was wrong. My fault for not getting it straight before I picked up my dog.
No problems I would use them again.

DO NOT USE THIS PROVIDER! HORRIBE AND DANGEROUS is the only words to describe the care given at Broughton Kennels! After being assured that it was not unusual for a dog to contract kennel cough and that this was in no way indicative of the care or cleanliness of the facility, we kenneled our dog there again. We have kenneled her frequently in the past while living in SC, so we are not unfamiliar with using a facility like Broughton's. On this occasion, while I had my reservations, this was the only kennel we had references for and we were short on time, since we were attending a funeral. She was with Broughton for 5 days. When we picked her up, we were told that she had been FINE the entire time and that she enjoyed herself, as most dogs do. Upon arrival home at 5 pm, she began vomiting. She vomited 5 times by 9 pm and we called the Emergency Vet. She was treated for dehydration and and quot;nonspecific gastroenteritisand quot;. She received fluids subcutaneously and we brought her home at 2 am. When I contacted Broughton, they were surprised that she had been ill. They had no record of her vomiting or having diarrhea. In fact, their notes did not indicate any issues whatsoever. Eating normally, etc. She lost 8 pounds while at Broughton. The vet assured us that the illness was not new- there was NO WAY she could be that dehydrated with symptoms only starting at 5 pm that day! How did they miss this and why were we not notified that our dog was seriously ill? Broughton Kennels came highly recommended when we moved to the Richmond area but I have never seen a kennel as negligent as this! Not only has she become seriously ill while in their care, but they were completely unaware. Thank God we returned early enough from the airport to pick her up before close on Monday, she could have died by the time they noticed! We have used Broughton 3 times and the last two times have cost us almost $1000 in vet bills and worse, almost cost our dog her life. The ratings above do not even adequately describe the service. Lousy is as low as the rating goes and I would describe this as and quot;deadlyand quot;. DO NOT USE THIS PROVIDER!

Beautiful setting and most of the staff seems friendly. Only a few issues:
1. They do not let you see the actual kennels
2. They have restrictive drop off/pick up hours- 9-12 and 3-6. This means no early starts, so you have to start a day earlier.
3. My dog got kennel cough ($350 for treatment) after her last visit. The vet had me notify them so they would know there was at least one case, but they could have cared less.
I realize that kennel cough vaccine is like the flu shot, it doesn't mean you can't get it, just lowers the odds. However, they were completely indifferent to the fact that they did have at least 2 dogs there with kennel cough- Mine and the one that she got it from. Despite otherwise liking the setting and most of the staff, I don't think we could take her back there.

I was used to the upscale pet hotels prior to coming to Midlothian. This kennel is not upscale. It is a basic dog kennel with basic dog runs and garage doors that open to the outside. That being said the price reflects this and is a good deal. In this day and age when pet prices are through the roof it is refreshing to find a basic service that is priced right. The staff is friendly and they have been in business for over 30 years so I felt comfortable knowing this. It is a super nice setting with a great outdoor area and it even has a pond. If you check out their website you will see photos.
Overall, I would highly recommend this kennel. I rated it a B just because it is a basic kennel not a posh pet hotel. I will go back!

We like the care they give our dog when we take her there. They are very professional. It is a good kennel for our dog. She always comes home clean and happy. They pay enough attention to tell us things about her. We are going to use them again. They cost $14 a day for a medium dog. They are great.

Vito and Takara thank you for loving them like I do!

We have taken our Airedale, Finnegan, to Broughtons for the two years we have lived here. Finnegan is always greeted warmly and by name. He's on meds now, due to dysplacia and they were most willing to give him his medications while we were gone (most recently for 12 days). We'll be taking Finns back when we go overseas in December for 15 days. Our dog is always well cared for and anxious to go back.

Broughtons Boarding Kennels did a great job of handling my pet. I always felt safe leaving my dog there and I was comfortable that they were treating her right. I was happy with the ending results and she always seemed to be happy and well taken care of when I go to get her. My guess was they gave all the animals plenty of exercise and I felt the price was very fair.

They were just awful and I wouldn t believe their big fancy ads. My dog was very unhappy there and when we picked him up he was miserable, skinny, and seemed to be traumatized. It took him several days to get better. There was constant commotion and barking there and I would grade them lower if I could.

They are a great place to bring your animals while you are away or anytime at all. I think that most of the staff there are volunteers and they are there because they love animals and want to be there. Everyone is so nice and great with the animals you can tell that they just love them.

I have used them for a long time and the reason I keep using them is because of the way they treat all the animals as if they were they're own. The kennels are very clean and smell good. They get plenty of playtime and a lot of attention from the people that work there.

I have been taking our pets there for 25 years now. Their runs go inside and outside, they kept the inside climate controlled nicely and they were clean too. For an extra dollar a day they would even take the dogs out on a nature trail for daily walks. Their help were extremely pet friendly and nice in general.
