Sales person was punctual and professional but quote was one of the highest of the 5 I received. I honestly didn't feel that they were that interested in the business. We opted to have the work done by another company.

I had a twenty year old heat pump and twenty year service experience with Barnett's. Always received excellent service, fair pricing, and timely responce. I was not surprised when they said I needed a new heat pump. I received an e-mail proposal which was 50% higher than the lowest bidder (for exactly the same equipment) and the highest of five bids. BTW, I'm a property manager for condo's in coastal NC. Having to replace or repair over 85 heat pumps within the past two years, I have a fairly good idea of reasonable costs. As their response to my questions about the equipment and pricing were rather short, I'm sure they are not interested in my comments or in getting the job.

They weren't here for longer than 15 minutes. They replaced two AA batteries in the thermastat and checked the operations. The service worked took out the old filter and put in a new one that I provided. They changed the batteries in the thermastat and charged me $160 for the service visit.

AC went out yesterday (90 degrees).  I called them this AM and the man that answered the phone said that they probably wouldn't be able to get anyone out there today, but they could tomorrow.  I said that was fine.  I told him what was going on and he gave me some advice on what to do in the meantime.  A few hours later I got a phone call telling me that a technician was in my area and would be able to come over if I still wanted them to.  Did I ever!  He got here, very professional and friendly, went right to work, and figured out what was wrong and repaired it.  He did a lot of checking before he started doing anything, which made me feel good, that he was being careful and thorough.  He checked the other unit, too, to make sure it was functioning properly.  I was very pleased.

Both the HIX and the Barnett technicians that inspected my system, had been in the HVAC business for 15-20 yrs so were considered "senior technicians". However the Barnett technician was MUCH more personable and friendly. He determined there was no leak in my system, and showed me things with his equipment that verified that claim (the HIX technician just showed me some moisture on his hand). The Barnett technician also showed me how to check & perform a "trick of the trade" to avoid potential problems with my (inside) air handler's drain system. When he was putting the panels back together, he even replaced several missing pieces of insulation tape on both the indoor and outdoor units, at no extra charge. After inspecting the duct board under the house, he recommended I not have it insulated. He didn't feel it was necessary. He also didn't feel it would be necessary to replace it with a sheet metal duct. He said duct board is quieter than sheet metal, and it comes pre-insulated, so I wouldn't gain much by wrapping more insulation around it. He said I likely wouldn't notice any difference in the heating/cooling of the house, or see much difference in my utility bills... certainly not enough to warrant the $800 estimated cost to wrap it (or $2000 cost to replace it with insulated sheet metal). Before leaving, the technician even looked up a cutaway photo of "duct board" on his smart phone, and showed it to me, so I could see the thickness.

We had our HVAC system serviced the day before for the routine fall check-up. During the check-up, the technician unclogged a nozzle in our zone 1 (downstairs) system which was preventing the system from generating heat. The system worked fine when the technician left. The next morning (Saturday) we woke up to a cold house. Zone 1 again wasn't producing any heat. I called Barnett's around 8am and left a voice mail about the problem. I thought I wouldn't hear anything until Monday. However, much to my delight, about a half hour later I got a call from Barnett's asking me to describe the issue. We arranged that a technician would come out to fix the problem that afternoon. The technician came out as planned. He had to unclog the same nozzle again as apparently more debris had formed in it overnight. What I found very smart was that the technician showed my husband how to unclog the nozzle in case this happened again. This whole emergency service call only took a few minutes. The next morning we woke up to a cold house again. My husband unclogged the nozzle, and the heat has worked ever since--for about 6 weeks now. I am very impressed by how responsive Barnetts was. They have made me an even more loyal customer.

The service was done at my mother's house. She was treated with extreme professionalism and they gave her a thorough understanding of the new system. After they had completed the installation, they even vacuumed her floors!

The contractor was prompt, courteous, and professional. He gave me an estimate that was higher than the others I got, but otherwise I would have been happy to hire him. I note he preferred to communicate by mail rather than email, which is an advantage if you want hard copies, but might not be if you prefer having things electronically.

They are very nice and personable. They explain everything they are doing. The office staff is very knowledgeable. They saved me a lot of money because there was still 30 days left on the warranty. It is a great company with a personal, family touch.

We got quotes from four companies. Barnett's was the lowest, followed by Speeks, James River, and Woodfin, in ascending cost order. In addition to a good price, Barnett's offered a 10-year warranty on parts, compressor, and labor, matched only by James River. Also, the Rheem equipment had the highest % efficiency and BTU output of all quoted systems. The crew showed up as scheduled and were done by that afternoon. They were unobtrusive and friendly. Later, I went to change the filter for the first time and I saw that they had installed an electronic control in a way that made filter access difficult. I called John Gibson and he came right out and had one of his guys relocate the control. There was no charge for the work but he did charge me a high price for a filter. On one other occasion I called him when a condensate drain pipe plugged up. They reworked the pipe for free to eliminate future problems. Overall, a great experience. Highly recommend the thermostat, too.

Barnetts Heating & Air Conditioning were just great. They did a very thorough efficient check up on our unit. They explained everything they did. The office people were very nice and easy to talk with. They had very good customer service. They called ahead of time before they came out. If for some reason they ran late, they will call you and let you know.

Barnett's does a very good job keeping my system in good shape. I pay them on a yearly basis to have my system looked at once a year and if anything is ever needed in between the yearly checks, they fix it at no extra charge. Of course, it all depends on what is wrong with it. I really have no had any troubles with the system yet. I am satisfied with the system and satisfied with the company.

They were a week late getting out here to respond to our service call. They were even grossly over the given estimate. They even made our unit worse than it was before they had shown up and that was a disappointment. They did clean up after they were done with their service.
