I was looking for a specialist in native plants and came across Magee Design. I sent historical landscape designs of the property and met him at my home. He requested $500 for an initial design plan and took a check on the spot. Several update requests went unanswered, until receiving responses ranging from end of day to end of week, to tomorrow, etc. I needed to get my project started - after 4 weeks of poor communication and unkept promises I requested a return of my deposit. He has not returned any phone calls or information requests since. He took $500 and disappeared. Use at your own risk.

"Dear Mr. [Member Name Removed], I have the cashed check for $150.00 we returned to you when you canceled your project- a non-refundable fee we charged you to come out and look at your work in the first place, which was explained to you before our appointment. I'd attach the cashed check to this reply if I could. We never took $500.00 from you and we haven't disappeared. We're still here where we've been for the last 17 years. We're sorry things didn't work out between us, but find your slanderous remarks to not only be hurtful to our business, but completely inaccurate."

I needed help coming up with a plan for my half acre residential property. After a bit of research, I came across John’s website and made an appointment for him to come out to my place just before New Year’s to give me an estimate for garden design. He told me it would cost between $500-750 for the plan, and I asked him if we could keep it closer to $500. It took more than two months to get an initial draft of the plan, at which point I paid approximately $300 for the work to date. Within about three weeks of getting the draft plan, I reviewed the it, made some suggested changes, and asked some questions about items that weren’t clear. A couple of weeks later, I asked for an update on when I could expect it. I was told it would be a couple of weeks. It never came, and I never heard from Magee Design again.

"Hi Mrs. [Member Name Removed], I'm very sorry for this, but unfortunately, I just got busy and could not handle the work load that hit me unexpectedly. I've added some staff this year to try and avoid circumstances like yours, but that is no excuse for dropping the ball last year. If there's anything I can do to make up for it, I'm happy to. If interested, I'd be happy to finish the drawing at no charge, just contact me via email and we'll work something out. Again, my sincere apologies."
