Steven and his team with Childress Construction built us a screened porch, refinished our existing deck and tied the two together with a very nice walkway. They did a great job at a reasonable price and Steven did a great job communicating with my wife and me. Steven and his crew just completed a screened in porch addition to my parentsâ house and our expectations were exceeded with the final product. He was one of the most responsive contractors out of all the ones we contacted and was very flexible in the design of the project. He was on site almost daily during construction and we liked how his crew seemed happy during the work. Steven was receptive to feedback and and ensured that my parents were happy with the final product. The porch turned out absolutely beautiful and is very well built. Highly recommend.

I hired Childress Construction to replace the rotting wood on my deck with Azek polymer decking. Steven Childress and his assistant, Luke, performed the job efficiently and very skillfully. The quality of their work was excellent. Steven communicated well and was easy to work with, as some changes were made during the project. I highly recommend Childress Construction for deck or similar construction projects. The project was complicated by the fact that the deck was two levels, elevated 10 feet above the ground, and that the existing aluminum railing sections were welded together and could not be removed. The project became more complex when it was discovered that many of the deck joists were rotting and needed to be replaced. Steven cleverly managed to raise the railing in place and replace the joists and decking without damaging the railing. Throughout the job, Steven maintained the jobsite organized and did a good job of removing all of the old deck materials.

Steven removed all rotten posts and rails from rap-around porch and replaced with vinyl rails and posts and rebuilt the front porch steps. He paid attention to detail and I couldn't my happier with the results.

Steven built an AMAZING deck for me. Not only is the construction top-notch, but he steered me away from my pre-conceived notions into a great product. Now that I ve lived with it for awhile I can tell you it makes me happy every time I m out there. The neighbors have even come by to comment on the quality of the framing - including 2 deck-builders in the neighborhood. Thank you Steven!

Steven did a tear down and rebuild of the deck at my house. The crew worked tirelessly during frigid conditions and produced a magnificent result,at a reasonable price. I would recommend them highly to anyone.

NOT RECOMMENDED!!! Steven was thoroughly unprofessional when contracted to build our deck in Mechanicsville. He was untimely, inconsiderate and rude, especially given the generous time frame and the fact the entire amount ($7000) was paid in whole and upfront. I had to remind him of the original plan which required numerous corrections to the deck. He routinely showed up without prior notification that severely inconvenienced our plans. Craftsmanship was substandard and when shown that it was of poor quality reacted with indignation. Steven got a building permit begrudgingly only after I had argued with him that it was unacceptable to not have gotten one given the scope/type of deck built. Our deck still has not been finished (hinge replacement) even after numerous chances have been given to him to correct it. NOT RECOMMENDED.....HIRE SOMEONE ELSE

Steven and his guys were very easy to get along with, even with some of the changes we wanted to do. This deck is built SOLID and the quality of the construction can be seen. We over built the deck and the cost to do was approximately 15% more to do this but we know this deck will be here for years to come.

Was told deck replacement would take 7-10 days, it actually took 20 days. Missed a couple good days to work and only had 1 other employee besides himself. Deck looks good and am over all satisfied with work - just took a little longer than expected.

Steve and his professional, hardworking team not only replaced our rotten deck and porch with extremely sturdy and beautifully crafted replacements; but they also replaced the front and side doors, rotten siding, fascia and soffit boards, a crawl space door and performed any necessary repairs needed to get the initial contracted jobs done correctly! Steven clearly communicated with us from start to finish... no surprises.. .and he and his team worked diligently and neatly to get the job done in a timely manner. And on my father-in-law's house: I just recently reviewed work this company completed on one of our homes in Midlothian; it was the second time my husband and I were extremely pleased with Steven and his team. This review, however, is for the third time we have hired the services of Steven Childress Construction! Steven and his incredible team just completed a project for us that my husband and I didn't have the time to take on ourselves...we thoroughly trusted them to do an amazing job...and they did. He and his team totally replaced the cedar siding on the chimney chase and sealed it with the stain/paint we had already purchased. Steven made sure the cedar siding they used for the replacement was quality wood and the cost to do the job was very reasonable. The end result was outstanding. The multi-talented team also sistered 11 joists under the house, replaced a rotten beam and two support blocks on an arbor and also repaired ceiling drywall in the garage. Again, very reasonable cost! Steven stands behind his work and cares that you are totally satisfied with the job he and his team performs. He even replaced a faulty board on the back deck stairway railing well beyond the warranty period. He was also kind enough to recommend a painter as well as a gutter installation company that would be fair and take care of us. Were are very pleased with the quality of their work and craftsmanship. Professional, polite and courteous... a great company to do business with... excellent communication! It was a pleasure to do business with a talented, polite, honest, responsible and dependable team. We will hire them again without hesitation when the need arises.

The work was completed on the originally proposed schedule. Steven's personnel worked diligently to complete the project, putting in long hours on hot days. The deck was exactly what I expected it to be because Steven made sure that I saw actual products he would use, photos of these products, and work he had recently completed. His suggestions for different components of the low-maintenance deck were good and resulted in a very nice looking finished product. He left the site as it was when he started, removing all materials and old decking and cleaning the deck.

Steven's company recently built a screened porch at my home and my wife and I could not be more pleased with the result. He came up with a great design that met our needs so much better than the other contractor's approach. And his follow through on completing the project was great. Start to finish in a few weeks and no surprises along the way. His business has everything I look for when choosing a contractor: 1) locally owned 2) reasonable price 3) quality work 4) small crew so he was there almost all the time. Steven built a large platform deck extending off of my existing sunroom. I wish I could share a picture of the beautiful deck that he and his crew built. From the very beginning Steven stood out from the other contractors that I received estimates from because he was extremely professional, polite and thorough in giving detail about the work that he does. He spent a lot of time going over options with me and we worked together to create the design we ended up going with. The design on the top of the deck is a unique and slightly complex pattern. Steven gave me EXACTLY what I wanted and did not skimp on attention to detail. He rounded off the edges of every board and framed out the entire deck giving it a much more deliberate look. He also sanded the surface when finished to remove any marks from the boards that were placed there by the manufacturer. Another thing that impressed me was Steven's follow-through. He took pride in looking over the deck with me during the process and making sure I was happy with how it was coming together. When it was complete he once again looked over it with me and made sure I was happy with every detail. He and his crew cleaned their gear and materials up at the end of every day. They collected their tools and neatly stacked any unused wood. We had covered the area where the deck would be built with landscaping fabric and rock and Steven made sure no paper or rocks were left poking out. (This seems like a little detail but we had had a privacy fence built by a different contractor a few weeks before and he made a mess of our yard and left it that way. Scrap wood, piles of dirt, remnants of our old fence all strewn across the yard.) Steven also showed up when he said he would and worked full days to complete the project as quickly as possible. I would definitely recommend him to friends and will also call him back if we have any other construction jobs in the future. (I wish I had known about him sooner so that I could have had him build my fence!)

Steven and his team were remarkable!! From the first meeting until the last board was placed it was obvious that my satisfaction was Steven's #1 priority! He takes great pride in his work and it shows! Once the old deck was removed, Steven noticed the framing was off. He corrected the problem before moving forward.
