Do not use this guy. His work is only average, he's expensive and he doesn't return your phone calls. Absolutely, don't use him.

They came out on an emergency basis. I liked their promptness in coming out. They did as much as they could on a Sunday. They diagnosed the problem, so that they could come out on Monday. I will use them again in the future.

The plumbers came about 3 hours late the first time and did not do any work, except go under the crawl space. I pointed out the problem, so it wasn't necessary for them to do much searching for the problem. They did not come prepared and thus said they would come out the following week. I had to work, but I asked my neighbor to let them in and stay with them while they worked. My neighbor reported that they stayed for 1 hour. Unfortunately I left a check for my neighbor to fill out once the job was done. My neighbor gave the plumbers the check for the amount of the bill. However, when the plumbers left, my neighbor felt something was wrong and looked closely at the bill and noticed that they charged for 3.5 hours, even though they were only at the house for 1 hour and if you include the initial time they came out, maybe a total of 1.5 hours at the most. When I got home I called the Rutherford and left an message. The next day, Jimmy (the owner) called me back. I told him I was concerned about the time on the bill and he said he could not do anything about it and I needed to talk to Jesse (the plumber). Jimmy said Jesse would call within the hour. Jesse never called. I attempted to call back two more times and only got their answering service and no return call. I then sent a letter. I made a mistake by not sending it certified, but I did send it in good faith, with the hopes of resolving/discussing the problem. I never got a call back...NOTHING. So I wrote the BBB who contacted Rutherford. Jimmy responded to BBB with a bunch of lies. I was really in shock at the audacity of his lies. He said Jesse called me (HE DID NOT). He said I did not contacted him for 2 or 3 days after the work was done (NOT TRUE and my neighbors will vouch for me because I talk to them right after I called as they were interested in the outcome). He said that he gave me a break in the price, which is totally FALSE...I was told I would be charged $90. an hour. I did not complain about the parts as I really did not know what was fair, but the obvious overcharge of the time worked was a blatant overcharge. Jimmy told BBB that he thought it was "odd" that I would request a refund. My reason for wanting a refund was because after many attempts to contact Rutherford they never returned my call. There lack of communication told me they knew exactly what they were doing..cheating me. I think it is odd that an owner of the company would not have followed up with me about the situation to resolve it. Instead he believed that Jesse called me, when I have no record of any messages from him. I called several times. Jimmy's reluctant to follow up with me about this situation says he is very aware that I was overcharged. Rutherford's is a dishonest company and I will never do business with them. After talking to a few people, there are others out there that feel the same way. A woman down the street from me told me that they overcharged her once. Since then, she just had heating and air put in and she did not contact Rutherford for a bid.

"We were contacted on a Friday morning on an emergency basis. We explained that we were booked but would stop by to make sure the problem was under control and would we ok until the following week. We did exactly that. We explained that since we were totally booked or the day, we could not give a time window as we normally do. When we responded we determined the problem quickly and set an appointment to fix it the following week. There was no charge at all for this trip. We returned the following week, corrected the problem, presented the bill, and a neighbor wrote the check. No one complained or had a problem for over a week. When contacted about this, we discussed it thoroughly. We were asked to have the mechanic on the job call her. He did that afternoon and left a message. We were contacted again a few days later. I told her I would have him call again that afternoon, which he did and left a message. I heard no more about this until i was contacted by the better business bureau. We answered the complaint promptly. The BBB was fully satisfied with our response and explanation. If you read the above complaint, you will notice that facts about what was done ( time on job etc.) are being quoted by someone that was not there. We have been in business for 18 years, have a great rating with the BBB, only charge for time worked and have a list of satisfied customers that is very impressive. It is a shame to have even one customer that is unsatisfied but in this case we feel everything was done to satisfy her. After having my memory jogged a bit by the mechanic on the job, a ballpark price was given on this job but was told we would do the job on a time and material basis to try and save her money,which we did. Below I have to click before I submit this confirming this is true and first hand info which I have no problem doing. I assume she had to do the same. Like I said before, read the complaint. She states she was not there. All I can ask is you check with the BBB and give us a call. I will be happy to provide as many references as you would like. Thank you, Jim Rutherford"

Terrible- the drain still doesn't work properly. Much worse than that, the excavator, apparently inexpeirienced, dug the drive way up, then put the gravel back in first, and the dirt on top of it. (I have a basement, so the hole was about 8 feet deep). The result was my driveway collapsing after the heavy rains of Gaston. The front end of my truck crashed though the driveway, ending up with the bumper lodged in the mud, and a 4 foot long, 3 foot wide cavity appearing. I would have of thought the dozer operator would of known something was up when the dirt he dug out wouldnt fit back in the hole. He spread it all the way down the driveway, making a muddy berm of clay. When I called the office about it, the receptionist promised someone whould come out. After 2 months, and about 15 phone calls, and when they promised to come out, I gave up. To this day the drain doens't work properly, and my driveway has a depression in it. The depression may be good, it reminds me never to call.
