My husband and I were very excited to work with Tom. He seemed like he was going to be a good person to work with. All of his references complained that he took too long but seemed relatively satisfied. Well it's over two years later and we are chasing him to wrap up. Taking too long is an understatement. Sometimes his crews just wouldn't show up with no notice. Lots of delays and needless stops. We have paid hundreds of thousands of dollars and he won't even take our calls anymore. We just want him to finish what he started. It has been months since we have had a solid discussion about finishing. Unfortunately he is the stereotypic contractor that leaves you hanging at the end of the job and we didn't even have a fight. Poof ! Gone. He is a horrible manager. I turned out to be the foreman. I suppose I will have to sue him to even get my warranty documents. What makes a contractor just disappear? All I can recommend is that you RUN in the opposite direction from this contractor.

Tom Redding was rarely on site to supervise his workers and did not pay attention to or follow plans.   Measurements were off.  Workers were unskilled.  Terrible finished work.  He ruined our custom-made cabinets, flooded our basement twice, and damaged several of our belongings.  He incorrectly vented exhaust fans.  One exhaust fan was installed and never vented and we only found out after construction was complete.  I caught him in several lies.  He had ridiculous excuses for every mistake and never accepted responsibility.  He owes us over $20,000.00 for damages and defective workmanship.  He hired an independent inspector without our knowledge.  That inspector was never on our property and simply signed permits and handed them to Tom.  He cut corners and instructed his workers to do the same.  Example: did not parge, waterproof or put drain tile down along new foundation to basement; told his subcontractor to "leave just enough drain tile to pass inspection."  He was fined by DCRA for illegal construction and a stop work order was placed on our house.   Subcontractors have threatened to file liens on our home because Tom Redding did not pay them.  He seemed to feel that it was "part of the process" to redo work that had been done incorrectly.  We fired him and finished the project ourselves.
