ODAHC has amazing people at an amazing facility. The front desk staff are helpful and professional, though it was cuter when they all dressed matching! The doctors are caring and knowledgable about new treatments and options. It is expensive but so worth it for the quality of care. And the store in the lobby is awesome fun!

We have been taking our two genius cats to ODAH since they were little puff balls. The staff is always professional and they take the time to check over the boys. I get annoyed by people that complain about the price. They are in McLean, it is expensive, if you can't afford the extra $10 move to Iowa. You are paying for service. They use the best medicines and practices. They spent a lot of time with your pets. For example they do not give 3 year rabies vaccines because there is a small chance they can cause other illnesses. Our regular doctor is Dr. Robinson who is wonderful, but all of the vets are wonderful there. Last year our little one, BooBoo got sick and was not eating and throwing up everything. We took him to the emergency room which was very expensive. They wanted to do more tests. We took him to Dr. Robinson and (no kidding) they gave him kitty acupuncture and he started eating again in a few hours, cost was $35. You get what you pay for people.

We've dropped off our cats here for boarding and used their veterinary services multiple times. Their boarding services were good, and the staff there seemed caring.
We were very happy with their veterinary services, however, their prices are very high. We took our 18 year old cat in for multiple things, ranging from a teeth cleaning, a growth removal on his gums, acupuncture, and more. Dr. Felton was extremely caring and I felt that he completely understood that our 18 year old cat meant the world to us. And for us, that was extremely valuable. When it was time to say goodbye to our 18 year old cat, Dr. Felton was great. Afterwards we were sent the most sincere, and nicest card, and notification that a tree was planted in our cat's honor. It was very touching.

The vets, techs, and office staff are caring and professional and it is easy to get an appointment and park, and the facility is spacious and clean. Prices are expensive. To bring my dog in for ear yeast infection, with medication, was $250, when he had to be anetheisized briefly on another occasion for medicine in his ears, it was $350, then to check his knee and medicate ears was $250. (These appts were all within 3 weeks!) In fact even for a plain cat check and shots it has been $200. So I would recommend checking other vets for prices.
(Actually Cherrydale in Arlington was also expensive, plus the wait was really long and the waiting room was too crowded to even sit down! So maybe I am naive?)

We've been using ODAH for about 12 years for our dogs. They've always been exceptionally helpful and pleasant, and terrific with our dogs. While the majority of our visits have been for routine health care visits, they've also helped with difficult illnesses. The staff helped us manage what turned out to be a fatal kidney disease with our yellow lab, giving us sound guidance to keep him in good shape as long as possible. And when the end came, they could not have been kinder. When our labradoodle ruptured his ACL last year, I assumed they would push surgery to repair it. Instead, they suggested ways to manage it both medically and with rest plus limited exercise. He's improved steadily and it was the right choice for us.

Their care during boarding is terrific, with different levels of services or walks depending on what your need for your pet.

My female has been seen by these wonderfully caring vets since she was 9 weeks old. They saved her when she had pneumonia as a young pup and helped her when she gave birth to her pups. I was exceedingly sad to leave them. They put together a packet of information on both dogs for me to take to the new vets.

Treatment is always wonderful at this practice. Boarding is as well. The facility is clean and well managed. My last visits with them involved some final evaluation of my poodle, who had not been eating. In the end, they referred me to an animal oncologist for cancer treatment. The referral was also excellent. While the treatment at this facility is second to none, the pricing definitely reminds you that you are in Mclean. I moved out of the area, and am thus seeing a different vet for our new dog. Overall, I would say prices at this new vet are 30-50 percent lower, both for treatment and for boarding. I have not worked with them long enough to know if the treatment is as competent as that experienced at Old Dominion, but the prices are certainly much lower. In spite of this, if I still lived near Old Dominion, I would probably take my new dog there. To summarize, go to Old Dominion if you want the very best treatment for your dog or cat, but be prepared to pay.

They were expensive, but that wasn’t the real issue, I just wasn’t totally thrilled with how my cats were doing.

Two weeks ago my 9 year old Airedale female (who was diagnosed with double hip displaysia at the age of 2) injured herself by jumping off the deck to chase a rabbit. She has never had a hip crisis before, but has been monitored since the diagnosis 7 years ago. Not long after her leap, she was completely lame and trembling. We were able to bring her in immediately and Dr. Newman did a thorough exam including X-rays. Lily received steroid and Adequan injections, and was put on a week's course of pain meds plus Rimadyl. Our visit to ODAH on Nov. 16 was to see Dr. Felton who evaluated Lily's progress and then administered an acupuncture treatment which she tolerated well (except for the needle between her toes which is quite understandable!). Both Dr. Newman and Dr. Felton are typical of the doctors and staff at ODAH: they give their first attentions to the animal. They are gentle, encouraging and patient with the animals. They are also thoughtful and informative with the owners. They also follow up if needed with phone calls to check up on the patient.

My experience with them was okay. They took good care of them and they seemed to be interested in them. The kennel had windows so that the cats could look outside which I thought was good. The staff was very good. Their price was kind of high.

The surprise came when I went to pay the bill. It was significantly higher than quoted. ( I expected to pay $29 more than the quote for a RX but not almost $200 more ). Despite the fact that an Old Dominion employee confirmed quoting the price for the services delivered, the manager informed me that that Old Dominion is in business to make money and would not stand behind their price quote. Instead they did not perform any of the lab work that was included in the direct mail reminder and quote. Shabby and deceitful.
After using Old Dominion for 15+ years, I will not be going back.

I have been taking our dog there for years, but am growing increasingly unhappy with their blatent attempts to run up the bill. They follow a different vaccination schedule than our own veterinarian, so it's a regular battle to keep them from vaccinating our dog.
Today, they wanted to give another vaccination which our vet does not think necessary. They wanted to charge $48 for the shot, and another $78 for an exam. I asked why the exam was necessary, and was told that was to make sure the dog was healthy enough for a shot. When I protested, and told them the dog had had her physical last month, they waived the requirement to have the shot this time, but said she would have to have it next time. Given that my vet doesn't give that shot, I'm on the hook for an additional $130 the next time I bring her in.
It's a shame, because the groomer does a wonderful job with her and has worked with me to make sure the dog doesn't spend too much time in the crate as she has back issues. I reluctantly feel that I need to find another place to take her for grooming, where they are not constantly trying to find new ways to charge me more money.
It feels like they are trying to chase people out who do not want to use them for veterinarian services. They've succeeded in my case.

Communication and kindness are the most important qualities I look for in animal health care. I've NEVER had a bad experience in 10+ years at ODAH Center. It's not the cheapest place in town, but well worth the money. I'll always remember the kindness they showed my elderly Golden Retriever Jill in the last days of her life. Even the Vet Techs petted her and comforted her.
I also enjoy the wide variety of services offered. I've boarded my dog in the kennel and purchased gifts in the store. But best of all, my dog Tommy is happy to see the front door every time we approach. I know he trusts the vets as much as I do!
