First Savings Mortgage

Excellent. We worked with Jerome Jones and Brain Sorenson and could not have been happier. They were extremely responsive and obtained a lower interest rate than initially estimated. We would use them again without even shopping around for a better rate. All of the time I spend on Lending Tree and such was a total waste.

I had used Carla's services on my first mortgage and everything went without a hitch. First Savings came highly recommended by our realtor, and I thought it was a no-brainer to approach Carla when we were looking to refinance our mortgage. I ended up going with another company though, due to her inability to follow up with me either by email or phone. Carla had great ideas and options over the several weeks we were in contact, and she even recommended we also consider an equity line of credit. Good advice, we took it. Unfortunately, we ended up going with Eagle Creek mortgage, we got sick of having to chase Carla down either by email or phone.

GFE was clearly laid out including all loan fees. Fees were very fair and the rate was extremely competitive. Patrick Collins was professional and courtesy. His staff was responsive and organized. Closing was on time.

Steve and his team were great to work with. When I first started looking to buy a home, I ran into immediate issues with some of the big bank lenders because I am self-employed, and they considered me too risky without even looking at my financial situation. When I contacted Steve based on a referral from a colleague, he was more than willing to not only work with me, but to make sure he got me the best rate possible. And when it came time to finalize the mortgage and get things in place for closing, Steve and his team were extremely responsive and ensured I had everything I needed for closing well in advance of deadlines.

When looking for a mortgage company the first thing that you get from them is a good faith estimate. It amazed me that of the first 5 companies I looked at 4 gave me estimates that were missing items that I knew should be there. ie county filing taxes or escrow funding fees. Thing they left off so there estimated closing would not seem high because they had hidden fees. Joanne Swaine and First Mortgage hid nothing have a set fee for everyone, and with this closing everyone else wanted to charge at lease 1 point loan origination fee. First Mortgage had a -1 point. Thats right -1 point. made the load almost free. Joanne kept in touch the hold time during the process, even while she was on vaction. Working with her could not have been easier.

It was generally a positive experience. Kris, our mortgage broker, was very competent, but she was also very busy and didn't return our calls as promptly as we would have liked. The interest rate was very competitive; the paperwork was clear and fairly easy to deal with. There were no surprises at the closing.
