It was that time when I definitely needed to renovate the basement, structurally and aesthetically. In all honesty, having worked with Wade of TW Herren Construction before, I needn't look far. I did not even need to get another estimate I have such faith in him, his integrity and his team of professionals. The project was done in 2.5 weeks and done beautifully. I cannot say good enough things about this company and especially the team that tended to each task. It's Wade's long relationship that in some instances exceeds 25 years with his plumber, electrician, floorer, drywall installer, the tiler etc.... What a team . Everything is done to code, fully inspected., where else could you blindly trust someone and know you are doing the right thing and without any fears. The renovation moved quite smoothly even while I was indisposed and recovering from surgery, I had trusted Wade will be tending to this construction site as if I was standing there. He would send me daily updates and choreograph each task like a perfect dance. Also, he would send me a timely bill detailed with the expenses or credited if there were any credits. He always discussed with me every detail, while advising me if I were in doubt, always trying to save me money.Don't look any further if you need a contractor; this company has integrity, they are professional and absolutely know what they are doing and the final product is amazing. What is so very important is that Wade and his team stand by their product and will come back to fix it even 1.5 years later (after my daughter and her husband moved into the house that Wade renovated!) No questions here, TW Herren Construction will always be on my speed dial.In this world of man eat man, I am so happy and satisfied that we found TW Herren Construction. "Look no further, Wade is your man" that was a quote made to me by a gentleman whose house was being renovated by Wade when I was interviewing for a company two years ago.I'm glad I listened to him.y

The serviceman was very engageable. He went around the entire house to see what needed to be fixed. He noticed items that our insurer did not catch, and gave us solutions that would cost us less.

Wade and his crew are great to work with. The work was performed on schedule and on budget, and as I continued to add projects they were willing to be flexible. Also, the subcontractors Wade uses are top-notch. This was the second project he has done for me and I highly recommend T.W. Herren Construction.
Description of Work: Demolition and remodel bath, removal of carpet and replacement with hardwood flooring, finishing laundry room with flooring, wallboard and cabinets, replacement of door casings, replacement of original windows.

The window install went great. everything was removed quickly and efficiently (no broken glass bits in the garden or at the base of the house.). Then after he was done, and we thought it looked great, his carpenters came back and re-did the exterior trim at no cost, to bring up to a nice finish quality, completely of their own accord. Then our addition and remodel went GREAT!! The architectural detail of the addition was no exactly traditional. The actual footprint comes off the house at about a 30 degree angle, which made for some headaches joining the -2- roof lines. We have cathedral ceilings, so you cant just cover it up with drywall. They were joined beautifully and have added to the interest of the whole upstairs. We also opened up the whole upstairs, by moving the kitchen into the new construction and demo'ing the old kitchen and walls that defined it. Wade found a way to properly support the roof over a 20' span with no vertical supports that would have interrupted the open aspect of our house, and it helps hide the electric that supplies the lighting and ceiling fan (again, cathedral ceiling no place to hide wiring). Everything came in on time and in budget. I am the only person I know of with NO complaints about their contractor. If I ever do anything else to my house, I'm only making one call.
Description of Work: Wade has done several projects for us. The biggest -2- were; he replaced all 39 windows in our house, 1/2 of which were custom made and 5 of which were 4'x5' picture windows. and then a couple of years later he did our addition and replaced the whole upstairs flooring. The addition essentially remodelled the whole upstairs of our house and moved the kitchen to a completely new location.

Wade is very personable and professional. I have used his services repeatedly. I have always been very pleased with his work. he is an expert on the homes in our neighborhood (Holmes Run Acres). He is reasonably priced, since you always know the job will be well done and nicely finished. He is worth paying a little more for.
Description of Work: Kitchen semi-remodel: remove and install bay window, tiling, refinish wood floor, electrical work, drywall, haul away debris, gas hookup, sink install, and plumbing. In April, 2010 converted a shed to studio for $15,000: install door, strip out all interior, install windows, install small deck, drywall, install roof structure, install wood floor, electrical wiring, heating and AC unit. Outdor lighting and running electrical supply to the shed. In June, 2008 a small home addition for $15,000: tile floor, 4 sliding doors, move toolshed door, drywall, electric.

Wade was always updating us to the progress of the work and we always trusted his judgement. He also tried to save us money by recommending alternatives. The project was completed very smoothly despite some snags we came upon, but Wade always found the right solution. I'm ready for another trenovation in my basement and without question, Wade and his team will be doing the work for me. I trust him, he knows what he's doing. Now that we found Herren Construction, I needn't look further. His honesty and integrity were a big draw for us. He's detailed and meticulous in his billing. With Herren Construction, you know where your money is going. Wade and his team are a class act!
Description of Work: We embarked on a massive renovation that entailed a new roof (tar and gravel), new double glazed windows, refinishing of wood floors and the installation of a brand new kitchen and floor, bathroom, plumbing and electrical. There were also issues with rotted wood/joists. We hired Herren Construction to handle this contemporary 50+ year old house, which turned out to be one of Wade's the specialties. He tried his best to preserve the integrity of the house from A-Z. In fact, the best reference I got for him was when I first met Wade at a construction site where he was building an addition to a similar style house, when the owner of that house told me, "if you need a contractor Wade is your man, he's the best!" We call our house the glass house because of its many windows, which Wade replaced with excellent product made locally (thus encouraging small business owners), with better price than national brands but of the same quality. We never had an issue with condensation, and if at any time we had a problem, Wade was there the same day to fix it. Through his contacts, we got a fabulous kitchen with granite countertops for an unheard price. Wade have been working with an excellent team of floorers, plumbers, electricians, cabinet makers, woodworkers, etc. a relationship that spans more than 25 years with some, so one knows that he only demands the best for his clients.

We were experiencing water issues in our basement and couldn't seem to figure out the issue. After brainstorming with Wade, we eventually figured out it was a hairline fracture in a pipe behind a wall. Repair work went very smoothly, and Wade followed up with us to make sure there were no further issues.
Description of Work: Diagnosed water problem in basement. Performed necessary plumbing repairs.

We initially hired TW Herren (Wade) and paid a down payment approximately 6 months before work was started. We hired in April and work did not start on removing and replacing our windows for over 6 months. The job was started in October and not completed until Late January. It was a very cold time of year. If there were clouds in the sky with a "threat" of rain, he would not show to work, nor on days with any wind. When he did show, it was after 10am, he would break for lunch at noon for an hour and leave the site around 3pm. Our windows were shattered into our bushes when removed even though his crew tried to prevent him from doing so. The wood trim used to support the fixed pane windows are not to code, they are the original 60 year old strips of trim for single pane windows. The windows were to be custom windows, each made for us, but he was taking windows from other sites when short on windows. Not very custom. The windows were not caulked, nail holes were not filled, apparently, that was extra and not in the contract. He gouged our 60 year old pristine hardwood floors moving our grand piano (we offered to do this ourselves so as not to ruin the floors). He offered us compensation for repairs. We had the fixed pane replaced in order to eliminate the condensation on the windows. One of the large fixed pane windows was replaced and continued to have condensation, even though the other 3 next to it did not. He refused to correct the problem, telling us it was an airflow issue. The wood was not primed for painting. NO CAULKING. As for the exhaust fans, they were fine. But when I inquired about the permits and inspector appointment, I was told they wouldn't be doing that. And the door. We paid $1000+ to have our door overhauled. We have a terrible draft in our basement due to the large custom door. We were assured us he could fix it. We were swayed by the sales pitch. It turned out our door was warped. We were never told this, we discovered it after the work was done and there was still a draft. I added more weatherstripping and that is when I discovered the door was warped. Had I known, I never would have spent $1000+ to weatherize and would have put the money towards a new custom door. Further, our contract recited that we pay our deposit of 25% (in April) and the remainder at completion. It took 6 months to start. The week before Christmas when about 30-50% of the work was completed, he insisted we owed him 50% of the total as he was 75% finished.
Description of Work: 44 original windows replaced ( fixed single panes replaced with double pane and operable single pane were replaced Anderson wood casement weathershield awning style.), door refinished and weatherized/weatherstripped, exhaust fans installed in 2 bathrooms.

Response from TW Herren Construction
Wow! 5 1/2 years after completing the project and I find this on the internet. I have built my business over the past 25 years in this clients nieghborhood and have always prided myself on communication and client satisfaction. I am surprised to learn this client is now so unhappy with our work. Before posting this response, I contacted the owners in an effort to understand and correct any issues relating to the job even though the project warranty expired over three years ago. They declined my offer. As for the complaints listed, yes, I scrached the floor when moving the piano. At no time did the owner offer to move it and when I was asked to move it, no one bothered to tell us the leg was broken resulting in the scratch. The start and completion dates listed are not acccurate. According to my records, I recieved a signed contract and deposit from the client May 24, 2005. I contacted the owners the next day to confirm acceptance and told them we would not be able to start for several months given our current work load and was assured this was not a problem. They are correct in that we did not work during high winds or rain- we still don't - it's a safety issue for both me and my crew. The condensation problem experienced by this client is not unique in that it is a result of interior moisture levels. I replaced the window in question at the time and provided to the owner information from the manufacturer addressing the causes of condensation. I stand behind my original assesment of the problem. One of this clients biggest issues appears to be the lack of paint and paint preparation of the work upon completion. My contract clearly stated that painting services were not included. The final caulking and filling of nail holes, etc. is part of any quality painting contractors work and I regret any misunderstanding of this aspect of the project. I am delighted that the client is happy with the installation of the bath fans. In conclusion, TW Herren Construction is a small business and I have been fortunate enough to build a company in a niche market of approx. 350 homes. In 25 years, I can count on one hand the number of clients we have been unable to make happy. The overwhelming number of our clients are "raving fans". I appreciate the feedback from this client and will endeavor to make my company better as a result.
