They had a special going. I forget the name of the company that Home Depot employed to do that. It cost $39. They were very courteous and very nice. They came, did the job and left.
details, paint, outlet covers, etc.) so that the newly finished space would flow seamlessly from the upstairs.
We wanted to match the texture of the carpet that we had installed upstairs, which was a high-grade nylon fiber carpet from Mohawk Carpet called Hidden Sea (this is the type of carpet, not the color), using a darker color of carpet in the basement. We had looked into and rejected carpet that the contractor recommended, as well as every product that company you see advertised on TV that comes out to your house could have provided, because they were all polyester fiber, which makes a big mess with lots of shedding. We had also checked with the company that had installed the Mohawk Hidden Sea carpet, and found that they were unable to provide a product that would match that texture. In addition, although we wanted to pay $3,000, their total cost with charges for a padding upgrade, and charges for the tucked-under stair installation that would match what they had done upstairs, would be well over $4,000, for carpet that wasn’t going to achieve the texture match that was our primary objective.
We researched online and found that Mohawk’s Hidden Sea carpet was no longer available anywhere. Fortunately, we checked with Home Depot on Liberia Avenue in Manassas, Virginia. We took a swatch of Mohawk’s Hidden Sea into Home Depot and found that Mohawk was currently making a carpet called Enraptured II that exactly matched the texture of Hidden Sea. Problem solved. We borrowed Home Depot’s color sample chart for Enraptured II and selected the medium brown / tan color called Cavern.
Home Depot handled every step of the process, including taking the order, scheduling the measurement appointment, taking the
measurements, discussing the options (we selected 15 foot wide carpet), installing the carpet, cleaning up after installation, and following up with us to ensure that everything had been done to our satisfaction, with superb professionalism. With no charge for the upgraded padding that provides a waterproof barrier between the carpet and the basement’s concrete floor (in case somebody spills something), and no charge for the tucked-under stair installation, Home Depot’s total cost was right on the money at the $3,000 that we wanted to pay. The carpet looks and feels perfect. We have had no issues (not a one!) with the Mohawk carpet that Home Depot installed, and we give them our highest recommendation.
